Reflection of the 5th meeting

Teaching Reflection for Nirwanas Teaching

Reflection is an activity that is in the process of teaching and learning in the form of
written and oral assessment (generally written) by students to teachers or lecturers, contains
the phrase impression, message, hope and critique builds upon learning that it receives.
Because through reflection can be obtained positive information about how teachers or
lecturers to improve the quality of learning as well as observation of materials to determine
the extent to which learning objectives are achieved. Reflection helps beings education to not
get stuck in the apparent integrity. So, this paper is a form of reflection of the learning
process by Nirwana putrid Idriss teaching especially about strength and weaknesses of her
teaching. The preceding statement will be elaborated detail in following paragraph.
Firstly, the weakness of her teaching is she did not do brainstorming. He just
immediately introduced without brainstorming topics to students. I think this is very
unfortunate because just as we know that brainstorming is very important. With
brainstorming teachers can improve students' motivation in class. this technique a student
must be actively involved in learning activities and contribute to building knowledge, and is
responsible for what he construct (Jozua, 2006). A good characteristic of brainstorming is that
students are not criticized for their ideas so that students will be open to sharing new ideas.
Secondly, the strength of her teaching is she has good communication in teaching. She
can build a communicative learning where students are asked to solve a problem as a group.
To solve these problems the students have to use their language skills (language resource) for
mutual communication. This learning activity is a form of cooperative learning activities.
Spencer Kagan (1992) says that communicative learning techniques will provide the
opportunity for students to exchange ideas and consider the most appropriate answer. In
addition, this technique also encourages students to enhance their spirit of cooperation.

Based on the explanation, we can conclude to begin the lesson should be given the
brainstorming. A good characteristic of brainstorming is that students are not criticized for
their ideas so that students will be open to sharing new ideas. And then, teacher should create
a classroom environment where students have real communication, authentic activities, and
tasks that promote meaningful spoken language. These activities making students more active
in learning process and at the time make reviews their learning more meaningful and fun for
them.
