Power Tariffs in India - 2014-15

As the electricity tariffs in
India are changing every
year, we at iData Insights
are bringing out a report
which will be very useful
to subscribers,prospects,
readers, users and clients detailing the latest
slabs and tariff rates for
the year 2014-15. So we
do our research for all
the states in India regularly and publish a table
that lists all the latest
tariff slabs and rates applicable for LT (Low Tension), HT (High Tension)
domestic customers in
states of India.
The electricity tariff of
various states is under
a lot of scrutiny especially since the financial viability of Distribution Companies is being
questioned. The historic
decision of the Honorable
Supreme Court to cancel
204 coal blocks has put
the faith of 67 GW capacities of power plants
in huge doubt.
The decision on cards
by the Central Government in this regard to reauction of the cancelled
blocks would lead to increased power prices as
the bidding for blocks
may be re-allocated at
higher the price at which
they were initially allocated. For those plants
which had an agreements that provide for
fuel cost pass-through
the Government is planning to induce a cap on
power prices as per the
block. This decision
however, if implemented
may leave a bad taste
among private developers leading to all incremental cost absorption
by them. The industry

take is that should there

the blocks being re-auctioned on heavy discounts
or absolutely free, the
cost absorption for developing the blocks may
not be a pass through in
power tariffs to the end
consumers but otherwise
would be unfair.
By meticulously examining the impact of new
regulations and deeply
analyzing the possible
impacts on all the stakeholders, iData Insights attempts to blend the factual power tariff data and
present a dossier which
would be first of its kind
and would enable clients
with reliable insights and
better understanding of
the power tariff dynamics in the country. The
key queries which find
answer in this report are:
What is likely rationale
behind capping power
tariff for re-allocated
coal blocks? In this dossier iData Insights delves
deep to and most exhaustively examines the case
of fuel pooling and its
possible impact on the
end consumers and the
dynamics of power industry. Through this report,
iData Insights attempts to
unveil the pressure on the
power generation companies with incentives
linked to PLF instead of
PAF and in the current
fuel scarcity prevalent in
the country? Would all the
states be as pro-active
as Delhi in introducing a
fuel surcharge component in the power tariffs,
if so then what would be
its possible impact? Also,
what would be the cost
of power supply and cost
of procurement vis--vis
from power distribution
