Comments from Parents and Students on
P3 Math-EL Interdisciplinary Project 2009-2010
“It was a great experience for the students to have a hands-on shopping trip.
They are now more aware of how they should use their money. Furthermore,
they will try to compromise when they go shopping in the future… It is a big step
forward for the students to acquire independence and money concepts when
especially planning for spending. It is very important for them as we see there
are a lot of problems among youngsters overspending by using credit
cards.”

activity that blends education with daily living not

learnt, but also empowers them to plan confidently. Thank

Studywiz: Enabling the 21st
Century Learner
By Mr Bernard Ng & Mr Declan Burke

To complement the school’s One-to-One Laptop Programme and in line with

providing a 21st century learning environment, the school launched Studywiz in
November 2009. This is a dynamic online learning platform through which teachers
can deliver a curriculum that fosters collaboration and self–directed learning.

All Primary 6 and Secondary students have individual accounts that can be accessed
from any Internet device, including mobile devices. This allows students to access
school work from home or while travelling so as to revisit lessons or catch up on
missed lessons.

Teachers use Studywiz to deliver lessons with interactive content, real-time feedback
and assessment. They can tap on it to support different learning styles and improve
student engagement. This application is becoming an integral part of teaching and
learning at SIS.

A feature of Studywiz that parents will like is the parent account system. It gives each
parent a logon id and a password to view all current activities and communications
relating to their children’s schoolwork. All our P6 to S3 parents had received their
accounts by mid March. Studywiz will be a common platform for students, parents
and teachers to learn and share.
