Chapter11:Equipment
AnimeToys
ThefollowingsectionprovidesquickandsimplerulesthathelpplayersandGameMasters
createaplethoraofweaponsandvehicleswithwhichtooutfitcharacters.Theequipmentcreated
withthefollowingrulesisintendedforusewiththePersonalGearAttribute.Ifacharacter
requiresamorepowerfulitem,suchaspowerarmouroramagicalring,itshouldbecreated
usingtheItemofPowerAttribute.ItemofPowerreflectsmagicalorsupertechitemsthatare
exceedinglydifficulttocreate.Gear,however,maybehightechorincrediblyexpensive,butare
withintheabilityofmodernscience.Whileacharactersvehiclemaybethebestcarontheroad,
anyonewithenoughfundingandskillcouldbuildone.Powerarmour,however,requiresfar
morethanmoneyandskilltocreate.Ensurethatthedesireditemis,infact,PersonalGearbefore
attemptingtobuilditwiththerulesherein.
Weapons

ImprovisedWeapons
Incombatbetweenanimecharacters,itisnotuncommonforsomeonetopickupanearby
objectandwielditisaweapon.Itisimpossibletoaccountforeveryconceivableweaponthatthe
playercharactersmaydecidetothrowattheiropponents,butTable111:ImprovisedWeapons
providescommonlyencounteredexamplesofimprovisedweaponsandtheirstatistics.GMsare
encouragedtousethistableasaguidelineshouldtheirplayersdecidetograbsomethinginthe
middleofcombatthatisnotlisted.Naturally,mostweaponshavetheMeleeDisabilityaswell,
thoughtheycanbethrownincombatifnecessary.

Strengthrequirement.Forexample,ifaGiantRobotcharacterwhohasStrengthof56,threwa
manholecover,itwouldbetreatedasaLongRangeweapon(aManholecoverhasaStrength
requirementof28;thebaseShortrangeincreasestoMediumforaStrengthof36andLongfora
Strengthof44).Conversely,ifthecharacterthrowsacar,whichrequiresStrength42,itwould
betreatedasaMediumRangeweapon(MediumrangeforaStrengthof50butrequiresStrength
of58forLongrange).Ifitwishedtothrowabusatanopponent,itwouldbetreatedasashort
rangeweaponbecauseitisonlytwoabovetheStrengthRequirementtowieldabusasaweapon.
CustomisingFirearms
Sometimes,nothinggetsthetrickdonelikeareliablefirearm.Thefollowingoptionscanbe
addedtodifferenttypesofweaponstoenhanceperformanceorotherwisealterthem.Each
accessoryorfeaturenormallycountsasaminoritemofPersonalGear.Someoptionsare
consideredmundane(theiradvantagesanddisadvantagescancel),anddonotcostPoints.
Optionsforweaponsareclassedaseitheraccessoriesorfeatures.Afeatureisachangetothe
basicweapontemplatethatreflectsaparticularfactorymodel,orextensiveaftermarket
customisation.ThisrequirestheKnowledge:Mechanics(Gunsmith)Skilltoinstall,andmay
requireseveralhoursormore.Anaccessoryissomethingthatcanbeeasilyattachedorremoved
fromtheweaponwithinafewsecondstoseveralminutes.Weaponoptionsareavailableforany
classofweaponunlessotherwisenoted.
Accurised

Feature

Theweaponhasbeenspeciallymodified(customgrips,improvedsights,polygonalrifling,
heavierbarrel,etc.)toimproveitsaccuracy.Thisistypicaloftargetpistolsandcompetitionor
sniperrifles.Thismodificationgrantsa+1bonustoanyattackcheckwhenfiringsingleshots,
butnobonusifusedwithAutoFire.Anaccurisedweaponmustbeinexcellentconditionwithits
sightspreciselyaligneditwillloseitsbonusifknockedabout,dropped,orotherwise

pronebehindit.Foldingorunfoldingthebipodrequiresoneround.Abipodisavailableforany
rifle.
BrassCatcher

Thisattachmentcollectscartridgesastheyarefiredoutoftheweapon,andthuseithersaves
themforhandloadingorpreventsanyincriminatingballisticsevidencefrombeingleftbehind.A
brasscatcherisavailableforanyrifleorassaultweapon.
BriefcaseFiring

Theweaponisdesignedtobeconcealedinandfiredfromabriefcaseorattachcasewithout
removingit,usingahiddentriggerinthecasehandle.Theweaponmustbeanautoloading
pistol,machinepistol,orasubmachinegun.Theweaponsuffersa4penaltytotheattackcheck
whenfiredfromwithinabriefcase.Theguncanusuallybeunclampedfromthecaseandused
normally(takesoneround).GMsmayusesimilarrulesforumbrellagunsorotherdisguised

Thehotgassesproducedwhenabulletisfiredarequitevisibleatnight.Aflashsuppressoris

availableforagrenadelauncher,LAW,taser,orminigun.
FlashlightAttachment

Thisattachmentallowsanyweapontobeusedwithaflashlight,andpermitsilluminationof
targetsatshortrangesothatattackerscantargetthemwithoutanypenaltiesfordarkness.Of

FoldingorTelescopingStock

Thestockontheweaponcanbefoldedortelescopeddown,makingithandierandmore
concealable.Unfortunately,aweaponwiththisfeaturealsosuffersfromtheInaccurateDisability
(4penalty)whenfiringattargetsatoverhalfitseffectiverange.Itrequiresoneround(one
attackifthecharacterhastheExtraAttacksAttribute)tofoldorunfoldthestock.Iftheweapon
isalsocarbineformat,sawedoff,orasubmachinegun,thereisanextra1penaltytoanycheck
tospottheweaponwhileconcealed,whichiscumulativewithothermodifiers.Thisfeaturecan

whichhelpstheattackerdeterminewhetherornotheorsheisontarget.Ingameterms,the
attackerreceivesa+1bonustotheirappropriateattackcheckinsituationswheretheycanseethe
laserdotonthetarget(usuallyuptoShortRangeunlesscombinedwithascope).Lasersights
withaninfraredbeam(visibleonlytopeoplewithnightvisionscopesorgoggles)arealso

gunsisaleadbullet;thistypeofbulletiscalledballinmilitaryparlance.Standardammunition

forshotgunsisshot.Ifcharactershavemorethanonetypeofammunition,eachextratypethatis
carriedcountsasaminorPersonalGear.
ArmourPiercing(AP)
ThisisabulletspecificallydesignedtopunchthroughArmour,usingasteelortungstencore
ratherthanjacketedlead.SomebrandsofArmourpiercingammunitionareTefloncoated,but
contrarytomyth,thecoatingonAPbulletshasnothingtodowiththeArmourpiercingqualities
itsimplyhelpsprotecttheriflinginsidethegunfromthetoughermaterialfromwhichthe
bulletismade.WeaponsusingAPbulletsareassignedthePenetrating(Armour)Ability.AP
bulletsaresomewhatlesslethalagainstflesh,andthustheactualdamageisalwayshalved
(roundup)aftertheeffectsofArmourareconsidered.Thesebulletsareavailableforauto
loadingpistols,machineguns,shotguns,revolvers,andrifles.APpistolorrevolverammunition
(copkillerbullets)isusuallyillegal.
BirdShot
Thestatisticsgivenforshotgunsassumetheyareusingbuckshot,whichistheusualcombat
load.Ifusingbirdshot(withagreaternumberofsmallerpellets)damageisreducedby4
(minimum1damage)buttheattackergainsa+1bonustohisorherattackcheck.Birdshotis
onlyavailableforshotguns.
Blanks
Ablankisacartridgewithoutthebulletthatalsohasareducedpowderload.Ablank
normallydoesnotdeliveranydamagewhenfired,butifthegunsmuzzleisdirectlyincontact
withsomeone,thehotgassesexpelledcanstillbedangerousorfatal.Whenacharacterisusinga
blankfiringgunincombat,thegunistreatedasifitisfiringarubberbullet,butrangeislimited
toMeleeRange.Blanksareavailableforautoloadingpistols,machineguns,revolvers,rifles,
andshotguns.
HollowPoint(HP)
Thisisabulletdesignedtoexpandafterenteringatarget,thereforedoinggreaterdamage.
HollowPointbulletsareknownbyvarioustradenames,andincludebulletsdescribedas
expanding,dumdum,orprefragmentedroundssuchassafetyslugs.HPammoisstandard
issueinmanypolicedepartments,sincetheroundsarebettermanstoppersandarelesslikelyto
piercewallsandinjurebystandersontheotherside.TheHagueConventionprohibitsHPbullets
formilitaryuseininternationalconflicts.HollowPointbulletshavelessArmourpenetrating
power:Armourprotectionisdoubledagainstthebullets.Thesedisadvantagesarecumulative
withanyLowPenetrationmodifiers.Ifeven1damagesucceedsinpenetratingArmour,
however,orifthetargetwasunarmoured,1d6bonusdamageisaddedtothedamagethataliving
targetsuffers(thebulletsmushroominsidelivingtissue),butonlyifthebasedamage
penetratesthetargetsArmour.NoextradamageisinflictedonmachinesorstructuresbyHP
bullets.HPbulletsareavailableforautoloadingpistols,machineguns,revolvers,andrifles.
Rubber
Thesearebulletsencasedinrubberorplastic,whicharedesignedtobelesslethal.A
weaponusingrubberbulletsautomaticallysuffersfromtheLowPenetrationDisabilityand

delivers4lessdamage(minimum1damage).Rubberbulletsareavailableforautoloading
pistols,machineguns,revolversandrifles,andforshotgunsfiringslugammunition.
ShotgunSlugs
Ashotguncanfirebigbulletsinsteadofshot.Policewilloftenuseslugstostopcarsorblow
openbarricades.Whenusingslugs,ashotgunlosesboththeSpreadingAbilityandtheLow
PenetratingDisability.Slugsareavailableforshotgunsonly.
IncendiaryShells
Specialshellsarealsoavailableforshotguns;theseshellscontainphosphorouschemicals
thatconverttheshotgunintoanimprovisedflamethrower.Damageisreducedby4(minimum1),
butifanydamagepenetratesArmour,thetargetreceivesfiredamage,andsuffersonequarter
(roundup)thebasicdamageperroundforthenextfiverounds.Thisdamageisalsoverypainful,
imposinga2penaltyonallchecks.Theammunitiontendstofoulthegunafteruse,however.
Anyfurthershotsfiredbeforetheguncanbecarefullycleanedsuffera2attackcheckpenalty,
andthegunwilljamonanyrollof1or2(requiringcleaningbeforetheguncanbereused).
Theseshellsareavailableforshotgunsonly.
GrenadesandExplosives
Theuserthrowsthesehandheldexplosiveweaponsatatarget.TheiruseusestheThrown
Weapons(Grenade)Skill.AlloftheseexplosivescountasminorPersonalGearexceptasatchel
charge,whichistreatedasamajorPersonalGear.
ConcussionGrenade
Thisgrenadeisfilledwithhighexplosives.2d10damageisdeliveredtoeveryoneina15
footradiuswhofailsaReflexsavevs.DC15(thosewhomakethesavetakehalfdamage).
TearGasGrenade
Thisgrenadeburststofillaroomsizedarea(10footradius)with(usually)nonlethalirritant
gas.Damageisthesameasconcussiongrenade(2d10damagewithaFortitudesave,insteadofa
Reflexsave),butisstunonlyitwearsoffafterafewminutes,anditdoesnotaffectnon
livingthingsoranyonewearingagasmask.Anyoneexposedtothegasalsosuffersa2penalty
onallchecksduetoirritationiftheyfailFortitudesave.Thispenaltylastsforanumberof
roundsequaltotheamountbywhichthesavewasfailed.Teargasgrenadesalsoreleasealotof
smokeandmayoccasionally(GMsoption)startfiresiftheyexplodenexttopaperorother
flammablesubstances.
FlashBangGrenade
Thesespecialgrenadesproduceasuperfirecrackereffect,stunningpeoplewithsoundand
light.Thisweaponisafavouriteofhostagerescueteams.Nophysicaldamagewillbesuffered,
butthevictimsmustmakeaFortitudesaveagainstaDCof20orbeblindedanddeafenedfora
numberofcombatroundsequaltothedifferencebetweenthesaveDCandtheroll.The
charactersuffersa2savepenaltyifheorsheisrightnexttothegrenadewhenitexplodes.
Characterswearingantiflaregoggles(suchasaweldingmask)andearprotectorswillreceivea
+6bonustotheirsavetoavoidthegrenadeseffects.

SmokeGrenade
Thisgrenadefillsaroomsizedarea(10footradius)withnontoxicchemicalsmokefor3to
8rounds(dependingonwind).Anyonewithoutnightvisiongogglesoranightvisionscopewill

Operationalobjectsarethingsthathavemovingpartsthatworktogetherinsomewayto
accomplishatask.Examplesincludefirearms,vehicles,computers,andothersimilarobjects.
StaticObjects
StaticobjectspossessanArmourRating.Thisisanamountofdamagethattheobjectis
capableofstopping.Iftheobjectishitwithmoredamagethanthis,itsuffersdamageuptoits
ArmourRatingandanyremainingdamagepassesthroughit(possiblyinjuringcharactersbehind
it).Thoughtheobjectisdamaged,itstillmaintainsitsstructurebutwillrequirerepairslater.If
anobjectsuffersrepeateddamage,roughly5to10timeswithinashortperiodoftime(GM
discretion),ithassufferedsufficientdamagetobreak.IftheobjectsuffersfivetimesitsArmour
Ratingindamageinoneattack,itiscompletelydestroyeditisbeyondrepairandmustbe
completelyrebuiltorreplaced.
OperationalObjects
OperationalobjectshavebothanArmourRatingandHitPoints.Iftheobjectsuffersmore
damagethanitsArmourRating,theexcessdamageisdeductedfromitsHitPoints.IfitsHPare
everreducedtozero,itceasestofunctioninitsgiventask;acarwillnolongerrun,agunwillno
longerfire,etc.Theobjectisnotdestroyeditissimplyrenderednonfunctional.Itcanbe
repairedlaterandreturnedtonormal.Additionally,aswithStaticobjects,iftheitemsuffersfive
timesitsArmourRatingindamageinoneattack,regardlessofhowmanyHitPointsithas
remaining,itiscompletelydestroyeditisbeyondrepairandmustbecompletelyrebuiltor
replaced.
Penetrating(Armour)vs.Objects
WhenacharacterusesaSpecialAttackwiththePenetrating(Armour)Ability,theattackis
morelikelytodestroyanobject.EachassignmentofPenetrating(Armour)reducesthemultiplier
requiredtodestroyanobjectby1.Forexample,ifacharacterattacksasteelgirder,heorshe
mustinflictover75damage(ArmourRatingof15times5)todestroyit.Ifthecharacterhad
specialclawswithPenetrating(Armour)assignedthreetimes,however,thecharacteronlyneeds
toinflictover30damage(ArmourRatingof15times[5minus3duetothreeassignmentsof
Penetrating:Armour=2]=30).
ArmourRatingsofObjects
TheArmourRatingofanobjectindicateshowmuchdamagetheobjectcanstopanditis
dependentonthematerialfromwhichtheobjectismade,thesizeoftheobject,andhowwellit
isconstructed.Ahollow,aluminiumpolewillbefarweakerthanasolidaluminiumpoleofthe

Thecharacterstrikesafantasticblow,delivering42damage.Thedragonhas45Armour.Under
normalcircumstances,atypicallongsword,whichcaninflictamaximumof8damage,would
breakif40damagewasprevented(5timesitsArmourRatingofitsmaximumdamagevalueof

8).SincethecharactersswordisanItemofPower,however,itwillonlybreakif140damageis
stoppedbyanattack(8ArmourRating+5damageperRankofItemofPower=28;28x5=
140).
DestroyingBuildings
Charactersusuallygainautomaticsuccesseswhentheytargetabuildinginameleeorranged
attack.Mostbuildings,whethertheyaremainlycomprisedofstone,brick,wood,orsteel,have5
Armourforeachsizeranking.Ifabuildingsuffersmoredamagethanitsarmourrating,ithas
sufferedstructuraldamage;therewillbeholesinwallsand/orfloors,poweredsystemsbeginto
ceaseworking,etc.Ifthebuildingeversuffersfivetimesitsarmourratingindamageinone
attack,someorallofthebuildingwillcollapse.Forexample,amidsizedofficebuilding
partiallycollapsesifitsuffers125damageinoneattack.Characterswithinoradjacenttoa
collapsingbuildingmaysufferdamageequaltohalfthebuildingsoriginalHitPointstotal,
unlesstheycanreachsafety(possiblyviaamovementAttributeorwithasuccessfulReflexsave,
GMsdiscretion).AswithnormalStaticobjects,repeateddamagemayeventuallydestroya
