The core
How would you

fare against a venture
capitalist?
All MBA programs teach the fundamentals of strategy, finance

and management. What sets Hult apart, is the way we bring the
core concepts of business knowledge to life through experiential
teaching techniques and guest lectures from industry leaders,
while enhancing every subject with a global perspective.
It is a well-known fact in the business

community that venture capitalists are
notoriously tricky to convince. Before
they are willing to invest in any new
company, they interrogate every nut and
bolt of the young business. No stone is
left unturned while they get to know the
inner machinations of how the business
will work, and assess whether future
growth proposals are realistic.
Back to basics.
Your MBA program begins with a
three-week Immersion. Past students
have nicknamed this Boot Camp,
because from day one you grapple
with building blocks of business
through intensive lectures, seminars
and workshops. You also begin to
assess your leadership strengths and
weaknesses through coaching and
team-building exercises. Then, for
your first three modules, your core
courses will focus on the basics of
business theorytaught from a
global perspective.
Experts in bringing the

fundamental concepts to life.
Since we all learn best by doing, your
professors will periodically take you
out of the classroom to help bring
core subjects to life. We set up
dynamic simulations, have students
work through difficult role-play
situations with actors, use
computer-based models to market
and sell products, and organize
outdoor activities to learn teamwork
and leadership skills. One of our more
unconventional approaches is to pitch
students against professional poker
players in a lesson designed to teach
the art of risk management! By the
time you have completed your core
studies, you will not only know all the
fundamentals of business, you will
have experienced many of them
firsthand.

Each Hult campus hosts a Global
Speaker Series so that you have the
opportunity to hear directly from the
worlds brightest minds. In the past,
Hult has welcomed thought leaders

Venture Strategy competition. The aim of
this two-day contest is to simulate a real-life,
high-pressure environment where you and

companies to secure funding to launch a
tech startup.

Melanie Eusebe mentors students as a

Melanie relishes sharing the knowledge she
has gained as an independent management
consultant and team leader for global
companies such as IBM and Ernst & Young
especially in the areas of brand management,
organizational development, and operational
strategy. Melanie feels particularly passionate
about inspiring a new generation of
exceptional business leaders through role
modeling, which led her to found the Black
British Business Awards in 2012.

How does LEAD work?

Since leadership can only truly be
learned through practice, Hult
students undergo a continuous
process of training, application, and
mentorship throughout their program
year. Critical to this process is
constant feedback and support from
fellow students and professional
coaches (see facing page). We begin
charting each students progress from
their first week of Immersion and, by
graduation, the results are very
impressiveover 85% of our students
show a significant improvement in all
five key competencies and three
development areas.

Practical experience
Hult MBA students rise to

the challenge
Put all the business knowledge and leadership skills you learn to
the test with this seven-month competition in which you and
your teammates devise a game-changing idea to solve an existing
problem for a major corporation, or to create the business plan
for a startup.
Rise to the challenge and make

a real impact
The key concepts of business can
certainly be introduced by a
teacher, case study, or textbook. But
they cannot truly be mastered
until they are grappled with firsthand.
The Business Challenge is a
seven-month group project to solve a
real business problem. Its designed to
help you develop and test innovative
ideas that really make a difference
not only to your MBA program but in
your future career and beyond.
How it works
A launchpad for you career
The competition starts in Module A,

when students form teams and
choose a Business Challenge track. In
the CEO Challenge, you select a
problem set by top executives from
major multinationals. In the Startup
Challenge, you bring your own idea to
life for a new product, service, or
social enterprise. Throughout the
remainder of the year, your team
meets regularly to hone your
innovative idea into an actionable
plan, thanks to regular mentorship
and guidance from your professors
and local business professionals.
The Business Challenge culminates in

a series of regional elimination
rounds, where teams compete
head-to-head to advance to the Global
Final, held at one of our campuses
worldwide. Finalists get to present
their business ideas to a panel of
esteemed judges comprised of
executives, global entrepreneurs, and
well-known founders of social
enterprises. The challenge isnt just an
academic exercise, but the first step to
your dream job, or the launch pad for
your own startup or social enterprise.
Background:
IBM has developed a supercomputer
Watson which is capable of learning and
adapting in the same way as humans. IBM
calls this capability cognitive computing,
an advanced form of Artificial Intelligence.
Watson gained fame by winning the U.S.
quiz show Jeopardy, and IBM CEO
Ginni Rometty has made it a centerpiece of
the companys strategy going forward. She
is convinced that Watson and cognitive
computing will transform how we live and
do business. The power of Watson has
already been put to use transforming the
way medical research and diagnosis is done
for important disease areas.
2015 IBM challenge:
Create an actionable business idea showing
how IBM could put their AI technology to
use, and shape future product development
strategies using AI systems like Watson.
One Hult teams solution:
Team IBM Helpdesk from Hult London
tackled the problem of inefficient help desks
and call centers that are not customercentric. Their idea was to create a smarter
and more helpful desk agent that could
eliminate queues, discern and analyze
trends, and respond more effectively and
efficiently to customer needs. This would
allow IBM to create a scalable and
commercially viable range of new customer
service products for a wide range of
industries.

packages on each others behalf, earn a

Gonzalo Chavez
Professor of Finance

Dr. Chavez has worked around the globe, consulting

in firm valuation and advising on risk hedging. He is
a pioneer of financial simulation and its application in
investment and risk hedging, using these tools to train
executives and stock exchange management teams in
emerging markets. Students often cite his unique
teaching methods as the reason they are able to grasp
such complex subjects. He has taught finance around
the world, including at Babson College (U.S.), the
European School of Management and Technology
(Germany), and the Instituto de Empresa Business

Dr. Vicki Culpin specializes in organizational

behavior, specifically wellbeing at work. She has
spent over 17 years researching memory in a variety
of individuals. Her more recent research and
teaching interests include the relationship between
sleep, wellbeing, and the relationship between
sleep and resilience in management populations.
She is an Associate Fellow of the British
Psychological Society, a Chartered Psychologist,

With a PhD in Psychophysics and an MA in

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Dr. Erik de Haans
areas of expertise include organization development,

Director of Hults Center for Coaching, Erik works with

If you are submitting a GMAT score, it

must be less than five years old. Your
score reports can be ordered online
at mba.com. Contact us to see if you

series of personal assessment interviews.
These interviews can be conducted in
person, via telephone or Skype. The
personal assessment interviews main
objectives are to get to know you
better, evaluate your motivations to
join the program, and discuss the
details of your candidacy before the
admission team starts their review.
Hult International Business School

admissions committee will review all
applications after each deadline. Our
aim is to notify accepted or rejected
students within two weeks. We accept
students year-round but priority is given
to candidates who apply early. We only
consider late applications if places are

Our Global One-Year MBA is cost-effective because our
graduates start reaping the benefits of their degree earlier than
most leading two-year programs. But we recognize that an MBA
is a significant investment. We work closely with you to find the
best options to fund your programincluding scholarships,
financial assistance, and educational loans.

GoEd Student Financing
Hult scholarships are designed to help

us find the best global talent and
maximize diversity. Our scholarships
cover a wide range of backgrounds,
industries, sectors, and nationalities.
The majority of our students utilize

some form of education loan, even if
they receive a scholarship or financial
assistance. Students requiring
additional financing for their program
fees have two main loan options:
Hult has established an exclusive

partnership with GoEd Student
Financing to offer loans to international
students at very competitive interest
rates. Loans are typically offered over
five years, with a repayment schedule
that starts six months after graduation.
Hult and GoEd work with students
through each step of a simple process
so that students will know promptly if
their loan application has been accepted.

Scholarships are awarded to eligible
candidates who demonstrate the
strongest potential. Candidates are
required to prove they meet each
scholarship criteria through evidence,
and/or a written or video submission.
Competition for scholarships increases
as the year progresses, so we
recommend applying early.
Local bank loans and

government support
Financial institutions in many countries
offer MBA education financing
specifically to local citizens. These
loans are typically repayable after
completion of the course, although
terms vary widely. Depending on
where you are from, you may be eligible
for loan and grant opportunities offers
offered by your government. We work
with candidates to help them identify
suitable financial institutions and
government programs.
