Meaning of Project
The meaning of the Client-Based Project is for our group, GoGreen, to work with a
local organization to arrange a reasonable and mutually beneficial professional writing
project. This opportunity will allow our group to conduct in a real world setting. It will
require GoGreen to collaborate with team members, the professor, the organization and
the client.

Project Goals and Deliverables

GoGreen has chosen to work with Patel College of Sustainability and the colleges
communications and marketing coordinator, Melissa Wolfe. Our Goal is to create a
successful walkathon that raises at least $3,000. The money raised will be given to the
USF Office of Sustainability and the Student Green Energy Fund. This will allow for
the implementation of sustainable and green projects.
There are various deliverable to finish for the project and to ensure the success of the
walkathon. We have already finished our first deliverable, which included writing a
proposal to Dr. Tobienne about our idea to work with Melissa and organize a walkathon
fundraiser. We have already contacted our client and have established a contract. Our
next deliverable includes our final proposal to our client, creating flyers, creating social
media posts, and planning and coordinating Green Gallop Walkathon. We are on track
for each of our project and client deliverables.

Intended Process of Project

The intended process of Team GoGreen is to collaborate with our client, Melissa Wolfe,
in order to organize a walkathon to raise money for environmentally friendly
sustainability projects within the USF system. This process will be carried out in
various implementations of our teams effort. The initial process began with the
rendering of our initial idea and its pitch to Melissa Wolfe. Subsequent steps involve
creating our projects overall first draft which includes our ideas and how we aim to
implement them in conjunction with our client.
These ideas include the creation of the flyer that will be posted to promote the
walkathon as well as the social media posts that will be created to promote the
walkathon within the digital sphere of the populace of USF and the surrounding
community. The bulk of our process involves the organization of our team and
delegation of tasks that relate to the formation of our clients deliverable. This includes
why we are doing the project as well as how it will benefit our client and the greater
community once the project has been implemented. The final step of our project will

pertain to readying our material for distribution and implementation in conjunction with
our client and the walkathon that has been organized with said client.

Steps to Carry Out a Successful Walkathon

There are a number of important steps to follow and maintain in order to make this a
successful walkathon. The first step is to choose a time, date, and location for the event.
We have chosen the event to take place March 1st, 2016, at a time TBD, located at the
track and field stadium of the USF main campus in Tampa. The second step is setting a
fundraising goal and the question of sponsors. We have acquired a variety of different
and respected companies located throughout the Tampa Bay area and decided to set a
fundraising goal of $3,000. The third step is all about marketing and promotion. We
have printed flyers, posted on social media, and have enlisted the help of Melissa
Wolfe, who is a coordinator for the college of sustainability. Through these promotions,
we intend to raise awareness for our event. The fourth step is the organization of the
event. We will have numerous volunteers in place to make sure the event flows
smoothly. The last step is to gather and submit the proceeds. If we reach our goal, we
will be able to donate the money weve raised to further enhance sustainability projects
for the green movement at USF.

The Meaning of Sustainability and Going Green

Going Green is not just a slogan but a lifestyle that promotes living in a way that
preserves the environment and the world as an ecosystem. This lifestyle entails active
maintaining of the natural ecological balance through reduction in our carbon footprint
and our pollution. The Going Green lifestyle contains five important parts which
consist of: reducing pollution, conserving resources, conserving energy, reducing
consumption and waste, and protecting the earths ecological balance. Participating in
these activities of conservation will ultimately lead to a healthier ecosystem and a
happier lifestyle for the world as a whole. This will help our generation tremendously in
the future as participation in living a green lifestyle will ensure the ecological balance
of the world that we have to deal with as we mature and enter the real world and try to
find our own homes and make our own ways. Remember that it is never too late to start
taking care of the ecosystem and when we take care of our ecosystem, it will inevitably
take care of us in return.

Intended Audience
Our intended audience includes people interested in sustainability and going green.
The appropriate target market will include those who are highly involved with the want
to impact the environment through sustainable projects. They are more likely to want to
contribute, help raise money, and share with their friends. The audience would be locals
from around the St. Petersburg and Tampa area, particularly with close ties to either one

of the USF campuses. There is a strong environmental connection that flows through
the Tampa Bay city and its residents, so we will push to show how we are impacting
and how through fundraising, we will continue to research and develop new ideas that
further sustainability and positively impact the community. This resonance should
attract a fair number of people who call Tampa their home and want to keep it ecofriendly.

Organization
The Patel College of Global Sustainability at the University of South Florida fosters
sustainable urban communities and environments through collaborative research,
education and community involvement. Its research generates innovations and new
knowledge that will help cities around the world, including those in developing
countries, reduce their ecological footprint while improving their form and function to
make them healthier, more livable and resilient.

Client

Melissa Wolfe is the Communications and Marketing Coordinator for Patel College of
Global Sustainability. GoGreen picked Melissa Wolfe as our client because her
background and position creating web content, managing and advising social media
efforts, and implementing marketing strategies is a perfect fit to effectively carrying out
our project and gaining awareness of Green Gallop so that we have a successful
fundraiser. Also, by allowing us to utilize her established social media accounts to
promote the fundraiser, we can target the appropriate market and gain volunteers and
sponsors.
Our project fits perfectly into the mission and values of the Patel College. Our initiative
will educate the community on sustainability and going green. We will also raise money
that will be dispersed to SGEF, and Patel College to fund specific projects that focus on
the green movement. The walkathon creates a positive impact for Melissa and the
administration board for the Patel College of Global Sustainability

Deliverables Determined by Group and Client

The Green Gallop has a goal of raising $3,000. The walkathon will take place on March
1, 2016 from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. The walkathon will take place at the USF Tampa Track

and Field Stadium at 4204 East Fowler Ave. Tampa, FL 33620.We will provide the
address and directions to the stadium for all personal. We will market this event starting
January 1, 2016 in order to achieve as many volunteers, sponsors, and attendees. Also,
since Earth Day is held on April 22, 2016, we will have the walkathon March 1st so it
can be in relation to it.

Dear Melissa Wolfe:
As a team, we would like to contribute to the efforts of the going green movement by
creating a walkathon fundraiser, called the Green Gallop. Our goals include
raising awareness on the impact going green has on the environment, as well, as raising
money to fund more sustainable projects led by USF and the Office of Sustainability. In
order to accomplish this project, we have divided up established job titles that will carry
out set tasks. Someone will be in charge of each of the following: creating flyers,
producing posts for social media, acquiring sponsorships, setting up the event,
maintaining communications, obtaining and managing volunteers, and administering
and distributing proceeds.
Once flyers are created, we will print and distribute them around the campuses and
surrounds organizations. The reason why we will also target surrounding organizations
is because we want to get the community involved with green efforts. We are hoping
this will establish awareness and open their eyes on what the effects of just a small
contribution to going green can do.
Also, producing posts that will be featured on Melissas social media accounts for the
Patel College, will help to procure volunteers for the fundraiser. They wont just be any
volunteers, but more specifically, volunteers that have a passion for the subject that is
going to be pronounced. They are going to include those who are highly involved with
8

wanting to make an impact on the environment through sustainable projects because the
social media Melissa has, targets that segment of individuals and organizations. Not
only will it help to gain volunteers, but perhaps attendees because it will promote the
event. Perhaps it might even acquire more sponsorships, which leads us to explain how
we will procure sponsorships and what organizations we will target.
The point of obtaining sponsorships is so we have support and funds to make the
project possible. The sponsors we will target will include organizations that have a
similar goal of going green. Some of the sponsors we will aim towards will include:
Mosi, Whole Foods, Green Market Cafe, Going Green Tampa Bay, Sweetwater Organic
Farm, Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa Tribune, Tampa Bay Watch, Reeves, and Melissa has
also suggested we add TECO and the Sustany Foundation. We will ask these
organizations through our letter shown down below. This letter will provide information
on who we are, and what our plan is. We hope to receive as many sponsors as we can!
The Green Gallop walkathon fundraiser for USF will be the first of many, establishing
itself in 2016. We will market this event starting January 1st in order to achieve as
many volunteers, sponsors, and attendees as we can. Since earth day of 2016 is held on
April 22nd, we will have the walkathon March 1st so it can be in relation to it. The
walkathon fundraiser, Green Gallop is going towards a good cause. The cause is going
towards green initiatives and sustainable projects. Not only is it trying to raise money
for these causes, but it will also help to increase awareness on the impacts of going
green on the environment and community through USF, both in the areas of Tampa and
St. Petersburg. There are only positive impacts that this fundraiser will bring.

Sincerely,
GoGreen
