Animal Testing Journal

1). = For animal testing

2). = Against animal testing
Autonomy:
1) Comparatively with consumption of animals, animal testing equates for a very small
percentage of animal deaths. In the United States over three hundred and forty chickens
are consumed for every one used for research, and consumes one thousand eight hundred
times the number of pigs.
2) Animal testing involves treating the animals with cruelty, forced starvation or water
deprivation, along with forced feeding if needed. Medical testing for burns or back pain
requires that an animal be burned, or that it spine be damaged. All in all each situation
requires a different form of cruelty and torture for the animal.

Community:
1) Testing on animals is the only plausible way to test the effects of a new drug, chemical or
treatment on a living organism. These tests reveal the possible effects the treatments may
have on humans and on animals. Therefore animal testing saves thousands of lives by
revealing the threats of a certain procedure before it is released to the public.
2) While animals may be the only complete functional alternative to testing on humans, new
procedures may bring about alternatives. In vitro cell cultures can now bring about living
cells that can be tested, which can be more effective at noticing issues because they
would be human cells. Therefore the use of animals would no longer be needed to run
experiments, reducing animal cruelty and mistreatment.

Divinity:
1) Animals do not have the cognitive abilities of humans, nor do they have morals.
Therefore animals have no rights under human laws. This results in animal testing being
seen as an acceptable alternative to testing on humans. If animals were to gain their own
rights, it would force humans to cease hunting and ownership of animals. In Genesis 1:26
And God said let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the fowl of the air,
and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth
upon the earth. This excerpt reveals that the divine powers allow humans to rule over all
animals.

2) While animals do not possess cognitive abilities or ways to communicate, they do

experience pain. Since they are suffering, this would be similar to running the tests on
humans who are mentally disabled. Therefore is it truly fair to place these animals under
strenuous situations, when some of the most common animals such as lab mice have 98%
of the same genome as humans. In the bible, Proverbs 12:10 reminds us that A righteous
(man) regardeth the life of his beast. This brings forth the idea that we should not cause
intentional harm to animals.
