First of all, thanks to Allah for giving us the strength and determination to complete this project within
the time given by our supervisors, Mr. Sulastri Bin Zainal Abidin. We are really grateful because we
managed to complete MITEC Netball Championship 2015 successfully.

us and guide us in spite of their heavy schedule of work. We thanks to him for his invaluable
guidance, encouragement and moral support throughout of this project.

CHAPTER ONE
DEFINING THE CONCEPT
1.1 TITLE
MITEC Netball Championship

1.2 PROBLEM BACKGROUND


The problems that we are facing to make this event success as such as bellows:

The selection of sport for the event


The title of the event that can attract participants.
The sponsorship for the cost of the event.
The number of the participants that attend the event.
The selection venue for the event.
The date and time of the event.
The ways to attract the participants to join the event.

1.3 JUSTIFICATION
We, Group A as the organizer of the event take serious about the selection of the sport and the
concept of the event. Therefore, we come out with the idea to collaborate with Kementerian Belia
dan Sukan Negeri Johor but since there is no answer from them, we decided to stand by our own.
We choose to do netball sport event because tournament for the women rarely held and we
decided to create an open tournament which is no age limit to join the event. Other than that, this
is able to forming an attitude of cooperation in a team. As the organizer, this is a challenge to
handle the event successfully.
Once the concept has been selected, we are worried about the tittle for the event which able to
attract participants to join our event. We need to choose a proper and attractive tittle because we
are presenting University Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (MITEC) to
the local community. Finally, we decided to name the event as MITEC Netball Championship.
This is because we are promoting our universitys name and the sport as well.
Our group also need to consider the overall cost of the event. This is because of the event is an
event which is need cooperation from all parties that are involve to make the event success. This
should be done to make sure the event run smoothly and success at the end. Therefore, the group
members must looking for the sponsorship.
Besides, the prize for winner of the event also been considered. The prize plays an important role
in this event. We choose to give RM 1000 as the 1 st prize, RM 650 as the 2nd prize and 3rd prize is
RM 350. This is one of our way to attract the players to join our event. In our observation, we are
one of the organizer that give an attractive prize to the winners.
Furthermore, the correct timing date and time also one of the important part to event. We choose
to do the event on Saturday because most of the participants are students, housewife and full time
employees. This is because we want to ensure the participants are free on that day so they can join
our event.
As an event planner and organizer, we need to find attractive ways to attract the participants to
join the event and we need to do contingency plan in case there will be some changes in the
future.

1.4 OBJECTIVE
The objectives of these programmes are as bellows:

1.5 BENCHMARKING
From previous sport event which is Kejohanan Futsal 1 Johor, we make this event as a benchmark
for us because they have an attractive way which leads participants to join to the event. This event
is about to create a close relationship between netballs athletes around Malaysia especially in
Johor.
In addition, the event is open to anyone who plays netball except for state and national netball
players that are still active in 2010 to 2015. There is no age limit to join the event and as the
organizer we want to create a spirit of sportsmanship in every netball player that join our event.
Based on the previous sport event that we do benchmarking; our event offers an attractive prize
which is RM 1000 for the 1 st prize, RM 650 for 2 nd prize and RM 350 for the 3 rd prize, which is
the highest amount prize in Johor and Malaysia. This is because most of netball event that
organized by Non- Government Organization (NGO) does not give attractive prize which the
organizer had done. By offering the attractive prize, this could attract participants to come and
join our event.

1.6 CONCEPT
The concept of Group A is to expose student and society to join in the form of sport
recreation. By doing this event, it give us the opportunity to make some changes about the
thought and idea of the participants about the sport. This event will increase participants
sportsmanship and to create a close relationship between netballs athletes around Malaysia
especially in Johor. This event also reminds the participants to them to forming an attitude of
cooperation in a team.
Moreover, the concept of Group A also try to attract the audience by giving attractive prize
which is RM 1000 for the 1 st prize, RM 650 for 2 nd prize and 3rd prize is RM 350. This is one of
the way to attract the participants compete to archive their target. Other than that, we want to
promote Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (MITEC) to the
local community in the simple attractive way.
Our concept is to create a spirit of sportsmanship in every netball player that join our event.
By using this concept, we could attract participants to come and join the event because we create
our event open to everyone who play netball except for the state and national player which still
active playing in 2010 to 2015. There is no age limit to join the event and this helps to create a
healthy competition between the players.
By having this kind of concept, the participants can improve their fitness level and the spirit of
sportsmanship in the sport which is really important to every athlete in the world. We as the
organizer hope that this event will helps them to create a spirit of sportsmanship and close
relationship between the netball players in Malaysia especially in Johor.

CHAPTER THREE
EXECUTING
3.1 FINAL DESIGN

Is this beginning of the project management will tell us a bit about how the group was formed and it
begins from the selection group name to join our team. We are from the group "A". Why our group
was given the title of group "A" is caused because the goal of our struggle where in all that we do as a
student is to obtain results which give us satisfaction. Not only is the A in any subject but in what
we do because we believe that with the onset of the letter A beginning to find what we needed as a
student. In addition, we want to keep our brains in your head where A is the beginning for us
successful in everything we do as a student and an established name that has been agreed by all the
members of our group. And from there is the beginning of the name of our group which was named
the group "A" of the subject "Project Management" JGB30503
In the Project Management JGB30503 we were given the choice of whether to choose for modeling or
event. At first we all agreed to choose to make the model. But when we do research to ensure that the
model is successful or not, there are some obstacles that we have faced so to not take high risks we
decided to remedy run event. Thats while our group change from do the model become an event.
Group "A" consisting of 10 members of the members have been jointly managing the event in which
the event is run on "Sport event management" that 'MITEC NETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2015
"(open) held in UNIKL Mitec for one day at 14 November 2015 and the event starts at 8.00 am until
6.00 pm at the Netball court. This event is subject under management according to project assignment
accomplished our task.
Before the start of the event, Group "A" proposes to create a sport event which is netball. This is
because the objective of our group is to improve the level of fitness and sportsmanship among
students and outsiders and the main thing is we want to promote University Kuala Lumpur Malaysian
Institute of Industrial Technology (MITEC) to the local community and indirectly Our university will
boast in the eyes of outsiders if the event that we run and we are also conducting a survey among
female students UNIKL Mitec event will we organize and some positive response we have received to
us. Finally, we intend to make netball competition open only a maximum of 10 teams. After
completing the paperwork and make a presentation about the paperwork we get a bit of advice we got
from project management lecturer Mr. Sulastri about the topics that we choose whether the game can
be continued or not and what should we accept that risk before, during and after the event Other than

our lecturer Mr. Sulastri, we have also try to get some advice from Mr. Syukor about events related to
sports. Initially, we decided to limit to 10 teams but when the advice from Mr. Syukor( Top campus
lifestyle section), he stated that in addition to the 16 teams for matches involving sport can achieve
that goal. ". After confirmation about the topic we start to find the sponsor during our budget consists
of our publicity which is part bunting, posters and souvenirs for our sponsorship and our lecturer and
deputy of dean also provided food and drinks to the participate. We got the sponsorship from the
company that sponsored the printing of the posters, bunting and also foods for crowd and souvenirs.
We also did the promotion about our event 3 weeks before the date of the program through which
social media is Facebook account, instagram, twitter and others besides through face to face bunting
and posters from the first exit of Seri Alam, around the area of Unikl Mitec and inside our campus.
Before the event at 7:30 am we run banded together and began to divide the tasks according to their
work. For technical committee, for assembly work, they will provide all the equipment and make sure
all systems are in good condition such as sound systems, mixer, microphones, cordless, speaker and
also slide to a montage, or video. For the other group members have to manage part of the registration
as well as the top food and drink for the participants involved. And one assigned to take pictures of
the before, during, and after for the use of montages or video during an event that took place in the
run. Actually for the technical side we had a little trouble at first because we can only borrow portable
speaker of the UNIKL MITEC but before the event start, the portable speaker we must give back to IT
Department because have a lecturer want to used so to avoid anything that could pose a risk to our
event, we create a backup plan in where we tried to get the relevant sponsor of PA system and lastly
we get the one set of the PA
In addition, our group also did not think that the participants were more than what we expected.
Indirectly, it is a credit to our team to strengthen our financial terms where it covers all aspects.
Basically we have to limit the participants were 24 teams competing but there is a team in which the
Century Garden agreed to sponsor the food and drinks for all participants. So we decided to add one
more team makes all once be 25 teams. This is because we understand that the participant that
involved in this famous people. (Can be seen at the evidences).
The biggest factor obstacle for our event is because at 14 November 2015 was held another event
which is "CarrierFair" which is housed in the main hall UNIKL MITEC. So initially we made our
backup plan where we want to run this event in the main hall in the event of rain, and so on, but
because there are other events that took place the same day with the event MITEC Netball
Championships so we had to change the plan to the warehouse. So we go to the office of technician,
Mr Nizam and from there we try to ask them whether we can use or not the warehouse.But we cannot
use the warehouse because every warehouse is full. So the last step we take is to decide where in the
event of rain in drizzly conditions, we will continue the game and if we otherwise would have had to

dismiss the possibility that we will continue until the evening. Alhamdullillah on the day of the event
the weather was very hot and our event can be terminated earlier than our initial expectations.
The event was end at 6.00pm and before end the program we give souvenirs to our lecturer and
deputy dean of that come and join for supporting our event. Not forgetting the winning team to
receive prizes and certificates of participation. For participation certificates we provide to all teams
who register understandable because we have groups coming from outside the district of Johor Bahru.
This is because although there are losers, but at least they did not go home empty handed. Based on
our event, we also got some feedback from the crowd about our event and almost of the crowd gave a
positive feedback which is they were satisfied about the program.

4.2 LESSON LEARNED
MITEC Netball Championship is fully conducts by student of project management. The team that
been conducted for this event is 10 persons in a team. Each of the team members is givens a
responsibility to make the event success. From this event, what lesson we can get is to success one big
event we need to build a great and strong team member. Teamwork is very important to organize an
event. If the team does not have teamwork, the event cannot organize well.
Helping each other is a main thing that each team should do. It is a biggest point to make the event
went well. For example, although each of the team members is given their responsibility but not all of

though it is not our work as a team, we should help others that cannot complete their task. It is the real
teamwork.
Another lesson that we get is we have to make a plan on what to do first and what to do after that.
Planning is main role to organize an event. We should plan on how to advertise the event, how to
handle crowd, how to get the sponsorship, what should we do when facing the problems and much
more related to the event. The event cannot easily run without any preparation. Whether, budget, stuff,
court, emergency kid and much more need to be taken into account for the absolute event runs
smoothly.
To organize an event we cannot put 100 % of hope that we can get a sponsor from others. We should
have our own money to run an event. We should do a budget and finance. Financial to organize event
should strong.
For every plan we made we have to do a backup plan in case of original plan cannot be do. For every
organization the organizer should prepared a backup plan such as what if the event cannot do at that
lace where should we do. What action should we take if the crowd are not achieved the target.

4.3 FUTURE RECOMMENDATION
Venue:
The venue should be play in indoor incase if the day is raining and play at night.

Promotion:
Promote the project in and out from Johor.
Promote the project to all the institute and school at Malaysia.
Promote the project in netball club in Malaysia.

Organization for registration:


For registration, we can open up a page so the participant can submit the registration on the page
without need to email to selected people. By this, all the organizer can keep update with current
number of team that have register.
The total number of team that participates can be increase because the numbers of team
interested are higher.

Sponsorship:
We can maximize the number of submission of the sponsorship letter so that the organizer of the
project can run without using any money that they get to pay the expenses.
Maybe can ask sponsorship out from Johor.
Only use the sponsorship to pay the expenses.

Economy:
Cut any unnecessarily thing and used anything that can be used as used any source that can be
get.
If there are unexpected profit are gain, the profit can be split to different charity fund.

4.4 CONCLUSION
Financial operation
We have learned on how to manage and handling a project expenses. We had cut off all the
expenses that we can cut as the netball ball, vessel, net, banner and others because we get a
sponsorship from UniKL MITEC and other company that willing to support n sponsor our
project.
This project helps us to know what is the money flow whether in or out the spending how
manage it.

Networking relationship
We have learn on how to get network to get a sponsorship, deal with the referee, and other
organization to make sure our project becomes smooth without any problem. As a result, we have
collaborated with UniKL MITEC and get to use their facilities as outdoor court, ball, net and
others.

Management system:
We have learned on how to handle the project and come with backup plan in every single process
and how to organize people to do job with their specialty. We also learn on how to work with
others people, have teamwork spirit and respect others to avoid any conflicts occur. If something
happen, they come out to voice up and solve the problem together.

Experience:
We have learn and get the experience on how to manage a event that related to sport especially in
netball games even though all of us doesn't have any experience on netball games and success to
handling it with 25 teams participation.

CHAPTER 5
TEAMWORK
The concept of teamwork is extremely important to the success of any team including our team. All
people talk about working as one unit, as a unified team. Teamwork and unselfishness create the
backbone of a great team, without them a team cannot realistically compete. We can have a group of
superstars, but if we do not work well as one unit, chances that we are going to be as successful as we
would think is cant to be a real. The team working as one cohesive unit is going to be the key in their
success.
Here are some things that we take into consideration in our team:
1. Does our team have agreed-upon goals we created as a team?
2. Do the teammates openly encourage and support one another?
3. Do we have open communication with one another, as well as the good organization?
4. Does each player know what their role in this team?
5. Is there mutual respect among the teammate?
6. Do the teammates use statements such as "we" when referring to the team, or is it more of an
"every man for himself" mentality?
7. Have we created a positive team image for our team?
8. Are the individual contributions of each teammate recognised (regardless of whether he/she is a
starter or not a starter)?
9. Do our team as a whole committed to improving performance?
10. Does each member consider themselves as a "team player?"
To succeed at the task in hand everyone involved needs to combine our efforts. If we does our job well,
then it increases what our team can accomplish. This teamwork has to be recognised by everyone and
know that great things can happen if individuals master the fundamentals and work together as one unit.
Everyone has their own unique role, but each person's individual role must be recognised and appreciated.

Teamwork is something that must be a high priority and given constant attention. Every teammate needs
to understand how important it is for them to work smoothly together if we want to be successful. Each
player must be dedicated to the whole team and be willing to act unselfishly. When challenges arise (as
we always do), the team needs to have the resources, accountability and commitment to deal between us
in a constructive and positive manner. A sense of teamwork will play an integral part in the project.
