GOD IS RESCUER
Part of The Big God Story
Matthew 2:1323
God protected Jesus and His family from King Herods evil plans. God spoke to
Joseph in a dream and directed them to escape into Egypt where they would be
safe from harm. When the time was right, God spoke to Joseph in another dream
and directed the family to an area called Galilee.

JUST FOR FUN

This week during dinner, discuss your favorite stories or movies involving people
who were rescued. Discuss the various rescues and the emotions following the
dramatic rescues. Then tell your children youre going to read a part of The Big
God Story about the greatest rescuer of all time: God. Read Matthew 2:1323.
Discuss how God rescued Jesus from King Herods evil plan. Then discuss
together how it makes them feel to think of God as our rescuer. Pray together,
thanking God for rescuing His people throughout The Big God Story, and for
rescuing us!

YOUNGER KIDS
At some point, many children will experience exaggerated fears, anxieties, or
insecurities, which are a normal part of cognitive growth. You can help your child
work through these issues by not minimizing her concerns, but instead provide a
listening ear.

OLDER KIDS
Entering the pre-teen years brings on a plethora of emotional and physical
changes. Now is the time to be intentional about modeling and teaching your
child healthy coping skills for working through fears, anxieties, and insecurities.

DID YOU KNOW?

In Matthew 2 we read about a horrific incident where the evil King Herod
slaughters perhaps thousands of babies in and around Bethlehem. When set in
context, we can see this as another in a long line of attacks Satan has made
upon the children of God.
Throughout The Big God Story, it becomes apparent that Satan views his
mission as attempting to thwart the plan of God.
When God chose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to be the origins of the line of
people through whom He would bring the Savior, Satan now had a very clear
focus for his attacksthe people of Israel.
Satan tried tirelessly to thwart Gods plans, but time after time God rescued His
people: Moses is saved to lead his people; Hamans plans are exposed by
Esther. God is rescuer.

REMEMBER VERSE
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come
to his people and redeemed them.
Luke 1:68

TEACHABLE MOMENTS
After reading Matthew 2:1323, discuss the following together:
Why did King Herod want to kill Jesus?
What does it mean that God is our rescuer?
How has God already rescued us?
