10/11/15

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13
Jason Stucki

Program(s)/Tools:

Microsoft Word
Epson Scanner
PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)

Objectives:

Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message
and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe
programs, including Photoshop.

Process:

I scanned the hamburger image and then used word to make the
color a little bit brighter. I then added a colored box and put a title
over it. I made the title with word art. After that I added another
text box to give more information about the event. I used Microsoft
word, Epson scanner and PDF2JPG.net.

Logo
Description:

Logos for a company

Date:

10/31/15

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13
Jason Stucki

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company

or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate
existing logos or use previous designs.
Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about
which logo appeals most to them.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No
Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or livetracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it
with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Refine one logo with variations for color

Process:

I first decided what company I wanted to do a logo for. I then

drafted out several ideas on paper. Then I chose 3 of those and
created them using Adobe Illustrator. I then got opinions of 10
people and decided on which one to use for my final. I changed
the boldness of my typography, I changed the colors of the
fonts with the eye dropper tool, I repositioned one J and I
used the shape tool to put in 4 circles.

Flier
Description:

A flier intended for graduating students who want to get a competitive edge in the business world.

Date:

10/04/15

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13
Jason Stucki

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document
to keep links in InDesign intact.

Process:

I made 4 sketches first in order to draft my thoughts. Then I

picked one of those designs and made a full scale size flier using
Adobe InDesign. I used a black box under the title for contrast
and design purposes. I used a large picture for my focal point
and a large title to draw the reader in. I bolded the DTP and
made it a larger font point in order to make it easier to see. I
had some white space and made sure that everything aligned
with something.

Letterhead
Description:

Business card, logo and stationary created for a company made

up by myself.

Date:

11/05/15

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05
Jason Stucki

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo
to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos
or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace. Use the
new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and
letterhead. Photos are okay on business card and letterhead
as additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11,
full-bleed optional, but trim only .125. Business card should
be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on a vertical page. Apply
typography rules, keeping small copy. Keep designs simple with
light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website,
and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone
number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

Process:

First I thought of what type of business I wanted to do. Then I

came up with 4 ideas of logos/stationary to use. Then I gathered
examples of good business cards. Then I decided on one logo
and started creating using InDesign. In InDesign, I used the
rectangle and triangle tool to create my skyline. Then I used the
eye dropper tool to add color. Then I used the circle tool to create a border for my logo. Then I used the grouping tool to make
them come together. Then I used that to create my watermark
by changing the size and opacity. Then I used the text box to
add in my information and the title of the company.

Brochure
Description:

double sided folding brochure

Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13
Jason Stucki

Program(s)/Tools:
TextWrangler
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality
images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in
Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows
the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three
paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process:

First I decided what I wanted to make my brochure for. Then

I wrote the body copy for the information. Then I used Illustrator to create a logo for my brochure. I used the polygon tool
and the eye dropper tool. I then used indesign to create a layout
that would allow me to fold my brochure properly. Then I used
the textbox tool in order to add in the text I wrote prior. Then I
used the place tool in order to put my pictures where I wanted
them.

Imaging
Description:

Photograph with typography poster editing project that incorporated a color scheme

Date:

10/17/15

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13
Jason Stucki

Program(s)/Tools:
Canon PowerShot Camera
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills.

Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Size and crop the image.
Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels.
Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image.
Desaturate the selected portion of the image.
Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process:

First I decided where I wanted to take my pictures and I rode

my skateboard over to a plot of trees. Then I used my Cannon
Power Shot camera to capture a good quality picture with good
lighting. Then I used Photoshop to edit the saturation, sharpness, color balance and levels. Then I decided on using a monochromatic green color scheme. I then added some color blocks
for the background and a quote to my poster project.

Web Page
Description:

A web page used to showcase a previously made logo.

Date:

11/19/15

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05
Jason Stucki

Program(s)/Tools:
TextWrangler
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page.

Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and
how it appeals to a target audience.
Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic
understanding of CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.

Process:

I first decided what company I wanted to do a logo for. I then

drafted out several ideas on paper. Then I chose 3 of those and
created them using Adobe Illustrator. I did that using many
tools, but mostly the dropper and shape tools. I was able to use
the dropper tool to get the exact color of green that I wanted for
the logo. I also used the rectangle shape tool in order to create
the two Js. The tops and middles of the letters were quite easy
to make but the bottom of the J was rather hard. I had to mess
around with the circle shape tool for a little while before I got it
perfect. I used it to create a circle and then added another layer
on top of that so I could slowly erase and fade away part of the
circle until it had a J like swoop without ruining the rest of my
logo. I also used the circle tool for above the Js. I then got opinions of 10 people and decided on which one to use for my final.
I used a bolder font for the Jamba juice under the logo and
then copy, pasted, and repositioned one J so it would mirror the
other.
