Business card

Description:
A business card that has a matching letterhead later on displayed in the portfolio.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 06
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:
Make a very good a pleasing visual logo.
Make a good letterhead and business card that complement each other.
To do a good enough job on it that I am satisfied to use it as my own personal business card and
letterhead.
Process:
when I started this project I was setting out to refine my logo that I created for myself and
basically it was just the outline of the logo that I have now. So I started off by thinking what color
scheme I want to go with and the theme that it was going to have. I settled on a monochromatic
blue color scheme for my logo and letterhead. So now that I knew that I started looking up other
logos that were blue and what they had done and what worked and succeeded in the contrasting
colors. After looking these up I decided to take some ideas in trying to copy them to see if I could
learn new skills from copying other peoples work. And I was able to pick up a few new skills and
apply it to my logo as I created something new. I then tried to decide on what kind of business
card what I want the background color to be on it and what information I needed to be on their.
I decided to at the end throw on a QR code that links to my website on my business card so that I
could have a technology enhanced business card.

Montage

Description:
An inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of
typography.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 06
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
One of the objectives in this project were to learn how to use the blending tools in Photoshop.
Other goals were being able to blend them correctly so that they looked like the images float
together.
The last objective was being able to imagine the typography to bring all the image together.
Process:
so I started off with a really nice picture of a representation of Jesus Christ standing there and
smiling. Then I had to pick what kind of typography to add in two this picture to make it simple
but yet powerful. So I did some research in my scriptures to find appropriate Scripture to go with
this picture that Im going to be creating. After finding my Scripture I decide to find some more
images and found some good clouds of some mountains and good kind of grungy looking wall
texture to kind of blend everything into. And I said to work in Photoshop blending these images
which took a while but I love the finished results of a well blended image.

Brochure

Description:
creating a brochure for a company where I had to create a logo as well as the brochure with all the
pertinent typography in the right places.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe indesign
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
creating a logo for a company.
create a brochure for a company.
Put pertinent and relevant information in prominent places and that are easy to find.
Making the brochure functional.
Process:
so I started off trying to think of a good company to do brochure for, like to think about was
how bad my teeth hurt. Which in turn gave me the idea to do a dentistry clinic brochure. So as I
worked on the logo I decided to go with a smile made out of the words for the dental clinics name.
I then had to choose colors that matched with the logo to build the brochure in contrast and in
repetition. Then I had to figure out what pertinent information to put on to the brochure and
what spots to place it in. I really had a lot of fun with this as I was able to use resources Id created
for fun on the side.

Webpage

Description:
this is where I had to create the website to display a logo that I created for myself.

Brackets
Objectives:
creating a website to display a logo.
Learn how to use HTML.
Learning how to use CSS to format the page.
Process:
I started off by putting in all the content into the HTML. So that I would have all the text and
images in the HTML file so that when I was editing the CSS I could see how the webpage was
going to turn out. As I did this I was able to more effectively plan out my website because I had
a clear goal and objective throughout the whole design process of this website. I particularly
enjoyed using spacing in this project and then having a background image bleed through the
spaces in between the different elements.

Flier

Description:
had to take elements that I was given and create a flyer using them.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 06

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe indesign
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
learn how to use the Adobe products.
Get a basic grasp of design principles.
Process:
during the flyer project I tried to think of a good shape to repeat throughout the whole design of
the flyer. After several hours of thinking I figured out a good shape it was a sort of leaf shape and
repeating it over and over again was really nice and looked really good as I applied it to everything
the images and text. It made the flyer come together in a unified point.

Event ad

Description:
creating an ad for an event for charity.

Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word

Objectives:
use Microsoft Word to create a flyer ad for a charity event.
Learning Microsoft Words ability to create flyers.
Process:
this is one of my more interesting projects, in the sense that I did not use an image editing
program to create this flyer. We started off in Microsoft Word and learned a few of the tools it had
and then we were told to explore and experiment and create our own ad for a charity event. So I
picked a LAN party playing games to donate to charity so people could learn.

Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.
Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
Process:
the process for this one is pretty much the same as my business card because I created them at
the same time so I will reiterate here. when I started this project I was setting out to refine my
logo that I created for myself and basically it was just the outline of the logo that I have now. So
I started off by thinking what color scheme I want to go with and the theme that it was going to
have. I settled on a monochromatic blue color scheme for my logo and letterhead. So now that

Photodesign

Description:
A personally taken photograph that has been edited/formatted using Photoshop.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 06

Program(s)/Tools:
Canon PowerShot Camera
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Size and crop the image.
Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels.
Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image.
Desaturate the selected portion of the image.
Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.
Process:
I took this picture using my little Canon PowerShot camera. Even though it was a point and shoot
camera I was able to take this nice shot. I then took my image into Photoshop and cropped it to
a 66 inch square. I was then able to start applying other objects that I created an illustrator over
the top of my image and match an overall color scheme to it. I had to take the photograph I took
and change the color balance so that I could get the overall color scheme accurate between the
image and the elements I had added on top of it.

Logo

Three logo variations for the same company.

Program(s)/Tools:

Objectives:
Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator.
Process:
my cousin has a programming group that you need to the logo for so I use this project to take
the opportunity to create a logo for him. So started off by asking him what colors were needed/
wanted for the logo. He told me purple, teal and gray, so I went to the design board and to Google
and started doing my own research on good logos that incorporate those three colors. I presented
him with three options that I worked very hard on. He then chose the one he liked the most and
so I did three different variations for him. I did one in color, then grayscale and finally reverse
grayscale on a colored background.
