book drive

Classes have a chance to

win a pizza party
Kohler fifth grader McKenna
Holzrichter is seeking donated
books for a book drive she plans
to hold at Kohler Schools from
Thursday, December 10 through
Friday, January 8.
McKenna was cleaning out the
family playroom of old books and
toys after requesting new books
for Christmas, when she asked if
the used books could be donated
to kids who dont have a lot.
McKennas mother, Molly, used
to volunteer in the Books for Kids
division of the Next Door Foundation, so she recommended donating the books to that
organization. After a few minutes
McKenna said, I bet there are a
lot of kids who have books that
they have outgrown. What if we
collect them all and donate
them? Molly told her that was
called a book drive and said if she
wanted to do one, she would help
her. So, the Out with the old,
make room for the new book
drive was born!
Will-Pemco in Sheboygan donated all of the boxes and printing, and Rita Gast from
Shorewest Realtors (McKennas
Nana) is sponsoring a pizza
party for the class that collects the
most books. A box will also be located in the library for any com-

munity members who would like

to donate.
Books needed include baby
board books, childrens picture
books, childrens fiction and nonfiction, juvenile literature, childrens
dictionaries
and
cookbooks, childrens books with
universal themes (friendship, animals, science, etc.), parenting
books, and multicultural childrens books.
Books that cannot be accepted
are: textbooks of any kind; withdrawn or discarded library books;
old books with mildew, torn
pages, handwriting, or highlighting; magazines; encyclopedias or
other reference books, adult
books.
The winner of the pizza party
will be calculated by dividing the
total number of qualifying books
a room donates by the number of
students in the room

defensive back for the Kohler/Sheboygan
Lutheran/Sheboygan
Christian (KLC) co-op football
team, completed the regular season with an all-time program
record 1,013 receiving yards, making him No. 2 in the State and No.
1 in the conference. His performance in week three versus
Mishicot (nine receptions for 258
yards and four touchdowns plus 11
solo tackles, an interception, and a
fumble recovery) earned him
recognition as the Air National

Tots campaign
KOHLER, Wis. Kohler Credit
Union union is once again hosting
the annual Toys for Tots toy drive
at all its branch locations now
through December 11th. The
credit union encourages our
members and the public to stop
by to donate a new, unwrapped
toy to help families in need this
holiday season. All donated toys
will benefit local families in Sheboygan and Ozaukee Counties.
This years campaign will also
include a visit by the U.S.

Marines on Friday, December 11.

The Marines will be at every
branch from 10:00 am to 4:00
p.m. accepting toys on behalf of
The Salvation Army. For every
toy donated on December 11,
Kohler Credit Union will donate
a second toy.
The mission of the Toys for Tots
Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas
gifts to less fortunate children in
the community in which the cam-

paign is conducted.
Kohler Credit Union is a $300

Kohler science teacher Dana Krejcarek named

to NSHSS Top 10 Educators of the Year list
Atlanta, GA Claes Nobel,
senior member of the family that
established the Nobel Prize and
Chairman of The National Society
of High School Scholars
(NSHSS), announced the Claes
Nobel Educators of the Year on
Saturday, December 5, 2015, at
The Carter Center in Atlanta,
Georgia. The top Educator of the
Year, Jody Zepp, was awarded
$5,000 to further her professional
and educational goals.
The Educators of the Year
award recognizes ten exemplary
educators who have demonstrated
an outstanding commitment to
preparing students for success.
These ten educators, who are all

members of the Claes Nobel Educators of Distinction program, applied for the Educator of the Year
Award to spotlight their accomplishments. Since the inception of
the Educators of Distinction program in 2004, NSHSS has recognized more than 40,000 educators
worldwide.
I am very proud to honor these
ten outstanding educators who
have continuously encouraged students to strive for excellence, Mr.
Nobel said. These educators
serve as remarkable role models in
their schools and communities,
and uphold the NSHSS mission of
helping to advance the goals and
aspirations of their students.

Krejcarek has been presenting at
professional, educational conferences all across the nation each

Science Teaching reviewer for the
National Science Foundation. Ms.

groups that would prohibit a
municipality from requiring
landlords to register with the
city, and from establishing
apartment inspection programs.
Inspections could only be conducted in response to tenant complaints. Assembly Bill 568 also
restricts municipalities from inacting or enforcing ordinances that
prohibit homeowners from renting
out their homes. The bill would,
however, allow a landlord to evict
a tenant for committing certain
criminal activities on the premises,

Kohler Police Chief William
Rutten said he would meet with
Attorney Bauer to rough out
language for a potential ordinance that the committee could
work off of, that would give the
police department more tools to
help them address problem properties.

place, rather than waiting to discuss it with them casually when
its too late for police to respond

At their December 7 meeting,

the Village Boards Finance Committee discussed nuisance complaints from Village residents
regarding rental properties. One
rental home in particular was alleged to have drug activities taking place, with visitors coming

The John Michael Kohler

Arts Center has presented an
offer to purchase a section of
the Schuchardt Farm Property
on Indiana Avenue from the
City of Sheboygan for the development of the worlds first
facility dedicated to the study
of art environments and their
preservation, conservation
and presentation. The project,
known as the Art Preserve,
will complement the Arts
Centers New York Avenue
location in downtown Sheboygan, WI.
Approximately 39 acres are
included in the $1,170,000
deal. The Arts Center has
agreed to make a payment in
lieu of taxes as well. Groundbreaking on the multimilliondollar project is expected in
the summer of 2017 with
completion targeted for the
summer of 2020.
