Title: iMadeIT
Presenter: Katie Ann Wilson Room: C204
Audience: All Strands: Teaching Technology
Session Description: One of the goals of a Makerspace is to connect concrete projects to the more abstract
worlds of STEM. Bringing Do-IT-Yourself projects into the classroom opens the door to problem solving,
engineering, creativity, and real world situations. Not all of us can be MacGyver but we all can learn to dream,
design, create, and repeat. Together we can create space for our kids to say I Made It!
Title: Making Student Thinking and Learning Visible
Presenter: Ken Shelton Room: C208
Audience: All Strands: Teaching Technology
What to Bring: Laptop or iPad
Session Description: As we begin working in more digitally rich environments, students have the opportunity to
create, and in some cases are creating, phenomenal artifacts of learning. But where are these artifacts going?
Where should they go? Who's seeing them and are they being used to add to the learning space knowledge base
when appropriate? In this digitally rich age, schools everywhere are beginning to see the value of having student
work housed in one location to help students to reflect and grow as learners. In this session, we will discuss the
importance of student-created digital portfolios. From why they are important - to how we can use the power of
technology to help students showcase and OWN their learning. Digital Portfolios allow students to reflect on their
learning and take their learning with them (expand on this work or show it as part of a learning resume) Digital
Portfolios are student centered and give students a voice, and pride in their work - motivation through work not a
grade.
Title: Creating Meaningful Learning
Presenter: Kevin Honeycutt Room: Auditorium
Audience: All Strands: Meaningful Instruction, Teaching Technology
What to Bring: Laptop, cell Smart Phone or iPad
Session Description: Sitting in a desk having teaching done to you for eight hours a day can cause some learners
to lose their passion for school permanently. Let's explore the idea of making learning meaningful and irresistible
using a bit of drama and today's amazing technologies.
Title: Using Children's Literature to Guide Science Inquiry
Presenter: Kim Stilwell Room: C109
Audience: K - 2nd Strands: Meaningful Instruction
What to Bring: IPad
Session Description: Need ideas to connect literacy and science? Never before has it been so easy to interest
students in reading and science. Picture-Perfect Science Lessons combine the appeal of childrens picture books
with standards-based science content. Leave with ideas on how to begin the integration as well as website links to
resources and instructional vignettes that can be used in the classroom tomorrow.

Title: "Ok Google" and Other Things You Didn't Know Chrome Could Do
Presenter: Rodney Turner Room: E110
Audience: 3rd - 12th Strands: Teaching Technology
What to Bring: Laptop with chrome installed
Session Description: Youve used Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox, but everyone keeps telling you to use
Chrome. This session will help make Chrome your home on the web. How can you leverage Chromes apps,
extensions, and the settings to expand the productivity of your experience in the web browser? In this session, we
will look at some common problems of workflow and productivity and how the solutions lie in the way you set up
your Chrome experience through apps, extensions, shortcuts, and settings. For each step of the learning, we will
talk about how this doesnt just relate to teachers, but how we can leverage these Chrome tools to better help
students in their learning.
Title: Beyond the Page
Presenter: Lisa Johnson Room: Library
Audience: K - 5th Strands: Teaching Technology, Meaningful Instruction
What to Bring: IPads with Tools Added
Session Description: As students have more and more access to technology and we strive to meet the needs of a
diverse population in the realms of instruction and communication, the idea of pairing digital assignments with
written ones is born. Rather than just writing a research paper, now students aggregate compelling research and
create an infographic that serves as a companion for their written piece. Rather than writing a persuasive essay
alone, students pair their work with an original commercial. Videos and trailers paired with essays, selfies and
personal narratives, and even collaborative curations serve as a springboard for research. These powerful
instructional pairings provide students with multiple avenues to effectively communicate their ideas and knowledge.
