Teaching Philosophy Statement

To teach others requires love, passion and selflessness. Teaching should
encourage a student to search for greater meaning, understanding and embodiment of a
specific concept or idea, to support growth and achievement. For the students to learn,
and advance understanding, the presented material must be engaging, holistic and
meaningful. If the purpose of public education is to produce productive responsible
citizens then opportunities must readily be available that challenges students to become
individuals. These opportunities must be achievable no matter the social class of the
student. Such experiences should help the student discover their own potential, become
decision makers and eventually self-reliant. Great teaching fosters and promotes the
developmental side of a student, allowing them to grow in all areas including, socially,
physically, cognitively, emotionally, and spiritually. Public education must address all
areas of development for the teacher and student to maximize learning possibilities and
outcomes.
Each student will bring a different history, background, and culture to the
classroom. All is valued because it creates the individual, and unique individuals are
essential to a well-balanced society.
Students need to feel as if they are capable of achievement. Students will become
successful in their own way; it is the teachers obligation to find those daily successes.
Though, too much of an emphasis on the term success may inhibit a students yearning
for risk taking, ultimately decreasing the rate at which the student will learn. Exploration,

expression, creativity and risk taking will enhance a students learning by increase
motivation and satisfaction of self-discovery.
Within dance education, teaching can foster a students desire for self-creation,
exploration and investigation. Teaching dance in education allows students to become
more comfortable with there unique characteristics, and allows for individualism to
occur. Teaching and participating in dance requires a cohesive comprehension of the
mind, body, and soul, which then allows enlightenment, true awareness of the self and
others, and overall well-balanced citizens.
Effective teaching comes from an equal invested partnership from teacher and
student; both must be willing to devote time, energy and eagerness, into the process.
Successful teaching requires, constant preparation, continual learning and love for the
students and the subject being taught.
All students are children of a loving and generous Heavenly Father. They are His
divine creation. Therefore all students are equally important, and all students can be
viewed as gifted. As a future educator my mission is to seek out students talents and help
them recognize their worth. Understandably students will struggle in different ways, but
all students have the potential to become Gods and Goddess and must be recognized for
their divine potential. I hope to help students explore and create and through this find the
light of the Savior in their life.
