CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background
Education is as an indicator of the formation of ethics and moral education for
the next generation. Ethics also can we called conduct. Ethics and morals are very
helpful for Indonesia especially for the next generation. Ethics and moral can also
called ethics or code of ethics. Fighting between students also constitute the offence
code of ethics. Unfortunately, constitute of this code of conduct often occurs. For
decrease violations of this code of ethics, then every school mostly include code of
ethics. One example is SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang.
SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang has now been said to be one of favorite
HIGH SCHOOL in Palembang. It happened because the public considers the quality
and the quality of the lessons as well as teachers and graduates are above other school
which are not categorized as a favorite.
SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang also has now been said to be superior. SMA
Plus Negeri 17 Palembang are arguably superior and favorites, this is because in large
part because discipline their students. Discipline is very important especially to
achieve the vision and mission of the school. Discipline can also be said to be aware
of the rights and responsibilities as a student at the school.
Every student has the same rights and obligations in school. As we know our
rights in schools, among others, had the guidance of a teacher of religion and science,
study skills and using school facilities. SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang will not
superior and be the favorite if the rights and obligations of their students are not
balanced.
Obligations of SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang is already contain in KODE
ETIK SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang or be called KODE KEHORMATAN SMA
Plus Negeri 17 Palembang. Be said KODE KEHORMATAN SMA Plus Negeri 17

Palembang is contain about the obligations of students who must be obeyed in order
to achieve the vision and mission of the school.
1.2 Problem Formulation
The formulation of the problem in the current study, among others :
1. How the Influence Kode Kehormatan SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang to the
responsibility of X grade student ?
2. What are the benefits if Kode Kehormatan SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang done
well ?
3. How to increase the responsibility of X grade student toward Kode Kehormatan
in SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang ?
1.3 Objective Of The Study
This paper is made with the purpose, among others :
1. To find out how the ethic and the responsibility of X grade students toward Kode
Kehormatan SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang
2. To know what the benefits if Kode Kehormatan SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang
done well
3. To analysis how to increase the responsibility of X grade student toward Kode
Kehormatan in SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang
1.4 Significance Of The Study
1. For the students, we can know what the content of Kode Kehormatan in SMA Plus
Negeri 17 Palembang and to know what our responsibility toward Kode
Kehormatan SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang
2. For the teacher, teacher will know as far as what the responsibility of the X grade
student toward Kode Kehormatan SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang

CHAPTER II
LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 Definition Of Code Of Ethics


The code of ethics itself originally derived from code and ethics. According to
Arthur S. Reber & Emily Reber, Code is a set of standards of rules for conduct,
while Ethics is a branch of philosophy concerned with that which is deemed
acceptable in human behavior with what is good or bad, right or wrong in human
conduct in pursuit of goals and aims. J. P. Chaplin, Phd says that the Code is the
standard of conduct.
In the exercise of a certain profession, a person is required to follow the ethics
that are set in the code of ethics of the profession. Whether it's psychologists, doctors,
engineers, economists, lawyers and others, as well as students also have a code of
ethics in the exercise of the profession should be fixed having regard to the code of
ethics.
In terms of ethics, then it can be defined as a set of values that become a
guideline for particular communities (professional practitioner). Sometimes ethics is
associated also with morals. Moral values is a general framework that is not written,
but agreed as a reference to behave and interact.
A good profession usually has a code of ethics. The main principle of ethics
include Dignity, Equitability, Prudence, Honesty, Openness, Goodwill. Breach of
code of ethics provides a heavy consequences, such as the possibility to grant a
person from the community of the profession so that it can be said the person died as
a profession and a professional so avoid this.
The code of ethics is a system of norms, values and rules of a professionally
written expressly what is right and good and what is not true and is not good for
professionals. A code of ethics stating what action is right or wrong, act on what to do
and what to avoid.

Ethic of a student can divided like ethic a student with a student, ethic a
student with a teacher, ethic a student with God, and a student with schools
environment.
2.2 The Purpose Of Code Of Ethics
1. Ethical standards are the basis for keeping the behavior and integrity or
honesty of the experts of the profession
2. Ethical standards helps professional experts in determining what they should
do if they confront ethical at work
3. Please note that the code of ethics of the profession is not the same as the law
(or laws). A skilled profession in breach of the code of ethics of the profession
would accept sanctions or fines from the parent organization of the profession
2.3 The Examples Of Violations Of The Code Of Ethics For Students
A. Plagiarism
a) Presenting the work of another as ones own (not citing a source)
1. Using ideas from any source without providing proper citation of the
source. Improper citation consists of excluding a source or
misrepresenting a source.
2. Copying or presenting material word for word from any source
without using quotation marks and the proper citation of the source.
3. Copying and/or altering a few words from a source, to avoid exact
quotation, without providing the proper citation of the source.
4. Rewording (paraphrasing) an idea found in a source without
providing the proper citation of the source.
b) Submitting a students own single piece of work multiple times without
instructor permission.
1. Submitting the same paper or assignment during the same term to two
instructors without both instructors permission.
2. Submitting a previously graded paper, assignment, or speech to a
different instructor without the current instructors approval.

B. Cheating
a) Cheating on exams and assignments.
1. Copying answers from another person or submitting another persons
work as ones own.
2. Collaborating on any assignment that is supposed to be done
individually.
3. Submitting as ones own any course assignment created by someone
else.
4. Using any unauthorized resources during an exam or while
completing assignments. Unauthorized resources include, but are not
limited to, notes, electronic devices, solution manuals, Cliffs Notes
or anything not permitted by the instructor or proctor.
5. Stealing, or having in ones possession without permission, any
exams, materials, or property belonging to faculty, staff, or another
student.
6. Receiving the answers to exam questions or other assignments.
7. Having another person take an exam or a class for the enrolled student.
b) Aiding other students in cheating.
1. Doing another students assignment, excluding collaborative learning
assignments or joint assignments approved by the instructor. Some
examples may include, but are not limited to, doing a students
assignment or writing or re-writing a major portion of a students
assignment.
2. Giving a student answers to exam questions or to other assignments.
3. Taking an exam or a class for a student.
C. Improper Use of Internet
1. Plagiarism from a published or unpublished Internet source
2. Improper or lack of documentation of an Internet source
3. Use of paper writing services or paper databases on the Internet
4. Posting of patient/client data or photographs
5. Accessing Internet during an examination without prior approval
D. Improper Use of Electronic Devices
1. Consultation of unauthorized electronic devices (e.g., calculators,
cellular phones, smart phone, computers) during examinations

2. Use of electronic devices to communicate within or outside an


examination room (e.g., use of cellular phones is not permitted during
an exam)
3. Storage of test answers, class notes, and other references in electronic
devices for use during examination
4. Improper use during examination of email, text paging, and instant

E. Alteration of Graded Assignments
1. Submission of an examination or assignment for regarding after
making changes to the original answers
F. Forgery and Falsification

assignment

2.4 Definition Of Responsibility


Responsibility according to Indonesian dictionary is, the state ought to bear all
things. Thus responsible under the general Indonesian dictionary is obliged to bear,
carry, bear everything, and suffer the consequences. Responsibility is human's
consciousness behavior or actions that on purpose or not on purpose. Responsibility
also means doing as a manifestation of consciousness of duty.
Responsibility it is natural, that is already a part of human life, that every
human being on overload with responsibility. Responsibilities in the review if it is an
obligation that must be endured as a result of the actions that do. Responsibility is the
hallmark of a civilized human. human felt responsible because human were aware of
the consequences his actions were good or bad, and aware that the other party or the
court requires sacrifice.

Responsibility of a student start from a student come to school, a student in a


class, student in outside of class and student in schools environment. Example
responsibility a student in a class, such as study with focus and listening what a
teacher say doing in study class. Example responsibility a student in outside of class
is such as respect to the parents and respect to the teacher or staff. Example
responsibility a student in schools environment is such as waste a trash in a right
place.
2.5 The contents of the code of ethics at SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang
Code of ethics or in SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang can be called Kode Kehormatan

2.6 Definition Of Student


Student term for learners in primary and secondary education level. Student
input is a component in the educational system, which further processed in the
process of education, so that the quality of being human according to the national
education goals. As a component of education, students can be reviewed from a
variety of approaches, among others: a social psychological approach, approach, and
an educational/pedagogical approach.
2.7 Definition Of SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang
SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang is a one of the best senior high school in
Palembang. The school was founded in 1997 with the principal at the time is Dra.
Wien Sukars. Until the current senior high school plus number 17 Palembang was

change the principal for three times. The first principal name is Dra. Sukarsi Wien
(1997-2006), and then continued by Merki Bakri, s. Pd, M. Si (2006-2009) and Drs.
H. Syaiful Bahri (2009-present). Since it was built in 1997 the school was in the
priority to become an excellent school in Sumatera Selatan. And since 2006 this
school is appointed to be one of the Project of International School.
SMA Plus 17 in Palembang, or Land known as Jubel, SMAN is one of the
public High Schools in the province of South Sumatra, Indonesia. The school has
received recognition as superior/plus school since 2000 so that makes this school as a
pioneer icon of superior education in Palembang and South Sumatra Province. Some
academic achievements, research, art, music, drama, art and photography has reached
a national and international level.

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

3.1 Method of Research


This research will use a qualitative analysis of the results of the research. The
method used in this study is a qualitative analysis. Qualitative methods are a way to
explain the data research, either using a systematic calculation and data quality.
3.2 Place and Time Research
Research will commence on November 2013. Research will be conducted in
SMAN Plus 17 Palembang, Jl. Major Zurbi Bustan, Sukajaya village, District
Sukarame, Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia.
3.3 Population and Sample

Populations for this research are all of students in grade X that live in the
dormitory in SMA PLUS NEGERI 17 Palembang. Meanwhile, the samples for this
research are some of the students grade X SMA Plus NEGERI 17 PALEMBANG.
Sample is a small part of something intended as representative of the whole.
The samples of this research are 36 students from X SCIENCE 1 X SOCIAL
randomly.

3.4 Technique of Collecting The Data


3.4.1

Questionnaire

The questionnaire is the activity or method of data collection by providing the


now consists of some questions to the respondents. Trees matter discussed was the
influence the code of ethics of responsibility of students X grade in SMA Plus Negeri
17 Palembang.
3.4.2

Interview

Interview is a conversation between two or more people and took place


between the interviewees and interviewers. The purpose of the interviews was to get
information on where the interviewer raised the questions to be answered by the
person interviewed. In this problem, the author will interview with sir Redy Wijaya to
know as far as what the responsibility of the student to the code of ethics.
3.5 Technique of Analyzing The Data
3.5.1 Technique of Analyzing the Data
The author use two technique of analyzing the data. First, technique of
analyzing the data that the author use are reads the data, count the data and meaning
the data that collect from questionnaire, until get the conclusion. Then, the conclusion
will explain with table. Second, technique of analyzing the data that author ask some
questions to find out an answer to finally get a definite conclusion with through
interviews.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION
In this chapter, the writer would like to explain about the discussion of this
research after did the investigation in structure finding and interpretation as below:

Based on the data above, we got data that 86,7% respondents answer that they know
what code of ethics is, 2.3 % respondents answer that they really know what code of
ethics is and 11% respondents answer that they dont know what is code of ethics is.
So, we know that many students know what is code of ethics .Many students just
know what it is code of ethics, but they not for really know about code of ethics.

Based on the data above, we got data that 86,7 % respondents answer that they know
what the content of Kode Kehormatan Siswa SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang is, 0 %
respondent answer that they really know what the content of Kode Kehormatan Siswa
is, and 13,3 % respondents answer that they dont know what Kode Kehormatan is.
So, we know that the most of students know what it is Kode Kehormatan Siswa, but
many students just know it, not for really know about Kode Kehormatan Siswa SMA
Plus Negeri 17 Palembang.

Based on the data above, we got data that 87,6 % respondents answer that they
following the content of Kode Kehormatan SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang, 13,4 %
respondents answer that they dont following the content of Kode Kehormatan

Kehormatan Siswa. From that data, we know that almost of all students have to obey

Based on the data above, we got data that 42,2 % respondents answer already
effective, 36,1 % respondents answer has been very effective and 21,7 % respondents
answer not effective. Base on the data result, we know that there are many students of
SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang have opinion that Kode Kehormatan Siswa SMA Plus
Negeri 17 Palembang already effective.

Based on the data above, we can conclude that 68,9 % students think that Kode
Kehormatan Siswa SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang make their responsibilities
become more increase. 6,7 % students think that Kode Kehormatan Siswa SMA Plus
Negeri 17 Palembang doesnt make their responsibilities become more increase and
24,4 % students think that Kode Kehormatan Siswa is not influence to their
responsibility or it means Kode Kehormatan Siswa not make their responsibility
become increase or decrease. But, from the data result, we can conclude that the most
of all students think that their responsibilities become higher because there is Kode
Kehormatan Siswa SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang in our school.

Based on the data above, we got data that 66,7 % respondents answer that Kode
Kehormatan Siswa SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang is really useful, 4,4 % respondents

Kode Kehormatan Siswa is just so-so. But, base on the highest percentage of result,

Negeri 17 Palembang is very useful for our school.

Based on the data above, we got data that 8,9 % respondents anwer that they are really

Based on the data, 75,6% students answer that Kode Kehormatan Siswa is influence
for students responsibilities, the reason are students afraid of hard punishment, can
make more discipline, and content of good rule. 24,4 % students answer that Kode

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
5.1 CONCLUSION
From the data collected through interviews and questionnaires indicated on
the data above, we can concluded that :
a. The influence of Kode Kehormatan Siswa with students responsibility has
been affected. Kode Kehormatan Siswa is not just influence to their
responsibility but also for their ethics.
b. Based on the data of the previous chapter is the benefits if Kode Kehormatan
Siswa running well are manner, attitudes, and behavior become better, then all
program will running well and teaching and learning process will be better.
c. The way to increase responsibility students of Kode Kehormatan Siswa are
always reminds students that our school has Kode Kehormatan Siswa that must
be obeyed, teach them better ethics, do practice and application that influence
to the content, and with a warning invitation.
5.2 SUGGESTION
From the data listed in the above data collection while the writers suggestion that
students must be aware toward Kode Kehormatan Siswa, because Kode Kehormatan
Siswa is a rule that student must be apply and follow. Kode Kehormatan Siswa is a
rule. From the first time, we enter this school, we create a paper that contain about
students that must follow all rules in this school. So, we must follow the content of
