TECHNICAL REPORT
TITLE:-

Permanent Restoration of Intake Channel at Raikoot Yousmarg Feeding

Water Supply to Charsharief Town and adjoining Areas.

HISTORY:- The Raikoot Canal/Channel takes off from Khanchi Nallah at a distance of
1.50Kms upstream of Raikoot (Yousmarg). The channel caters to the
water supply demand of the population of entire Charsharief Town and its
adjoining areas.

Due to the recent incessant rains that crossed all the previsous
records of devastation, started in the upper catchments in the Pir-Panjal
Range on 02-09-2014, Khanchi Nallah, Romshi Nallah and Doodhganga
Nallah are the otherwise viable sources of various water supply schemes
got flooded with gushing discharge thus washed away and damaged
everything that came into its way. This resulted in damages and silting up
of Raikoot Canal.

Tempora;ry Restoration of water supply was taken up in hand on

war footing basis and the same was made available to the public
temporarily by way of raising the levels of either side of the damaged
embankments of the channel.

Since large scale damages have been caused to the channel in shape
of development of breaches at a number of spots,, sliding of land on the
hill side and choking of the channel also took place at spots.

To ensure smooth and uninterrupted water supply to the

Charsharief Town and its adjoining area which has otherwise no source of

surface water, the channel needs to be permanently restored to the level

that it caters to the demand of the populace.

For the purpose this proposal has been conceived to to for full
fledged permanent restoration of the channel. It is proposed to lay bed
concrete and construction of lining walls on either side for the portion of
the channel for a length of 390mtrs out of total 900mtrs. Moreover,
crate protection works shall be constructed at the breach spots and a
bifurcation / escape together with provision of winch gates. Also foot
crossings of RCC slabs shall be laid across the channel at twelve spots.

During execution it is apprehended that water supply may get

disrupted and for the purpose a 300mm dia DI pipe shall be kept ready to
shunt the portion under execution of the channel so that water is not
disrupted.

The cost of the proposal as such shall be of the order of Rs.80.30
