Identify real life examples of a project that would fit each of the following priority
scenarios:
a. TIME-CONSTRAIN, SCOPE-ENHANCE, COST-ACCEPT:
A major sporting event (such as the Olympic Games) clearly has a fixed date. If
you are the project manager responsible for preparations, the event date is
inflexible and must be constrained. That leaves the resources/cost constraint and
the product scope/quality constraint. Which of these two is more important? The
sporting event will be watched by millions of people, I would suggest that product
scope/quality is the next priority, it must be enhanced. Concessions to the
resources/cost constraint will have to be made. This does not mean that cost is no
object! What does this mean is when changes occur on the project, cost will be
impacted before the other dimensions and hence can be accepted. We can secure
additional sponsors, enlarge the volunteer base, or pursue other cost options. The
project priority matrix for the sporting event project would look like this:

Time
Constrain
Enhance
Accept

Performanc
e

Cost

b. TIME-ACCEPT, SCOPE-CONSTRAIN, COST-ACCEPT:

Another project example is the construction of bridge. Bridge constructions are not
a task that can easily be done on time or get complete under a given schedule so
time can be mitigated or creep according to situation given, so it can be accepted.
Which dimension is the most critical here? Deliverable scope/quality is the most
critical and must be constrained. In other words, we will not compromise on the
quality or performance of the bridge construction. Which is the next
priority? Bridge constructions are very expensive and are heavily funded by
government so it also can be amend as the time too and it also can be accepted for
changes. The project priority matrix for the bridge construction would look like:

Time
Constrain

Performanc
e

Cost

Enhance
Accept

c. TIME-CONSTRAIN, SCOPE-ACCEPT, COST-ENHANCE:

Example for this scenario can be best fit on the project of launching the China
mobile phone or mobile phone not for quality sensitive customers or for low
income segmented group. Obviously technology in the mobile industry is crucial
so time to market must be constrained. As the performance or scope dimension
can be for the user who just want to call and do instant messaging, so it is
accepted to compromise on scope and performance of such a mobile phone. As
the mobile phone is launching under a given resources so cost must be under
consideration while launching the deliverable and should be optimized or
enhanced. The project priority matrix for the china mobile phone would look like:

Time
Constrain

Performanc
e

Enhance
Accept

Cost
