The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest
multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15
engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global
platform from which to share professional interest. IEI has
membership strength of nearly 0.7 million. Established in
1920, with itsheadquarters at 8,Gokhale Road, Kolkata 700020, IEI has served the engineering fraternity for over
nine decades. In this period of time it has been inextricablyIEI, Tiruchirappalli Local Centre Auditorium
linked with the history of modern-day engineering.In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter
and remains the only professional body in India to be accorded this honour. Today, its quest for
professional excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant
organization across the globe. IEI functions among professional engineers, academicians and
research workers. It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the
Government, Industries, Academia and the Engineering fraternity, operating from over 100 centres
located across the country. The Institution has established R&D centres at various locations in the
country and also provides grant-in-aid to its members to conduct research and development on
engineering subjects.IEI offers a non-formal engineering course, the successful completion of
which is officially recognized as equivalent to a degree in engineering. Every year as many as
60000 candidates appear for these exams.
Tiruchirappalli Local Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) located in BHEL Campus,Tiruchirappalli was
inaugurated in the year 1973. Technical lectures are being conducted every week covering all branches of
engineering. The Local Centre has been conducting on an average one National Seminar / Convention
/Workshop every year on subjects like Computer, Coal Technology, CAD, Pollution Control, Integrated
Manufacturing, Information Technology, Process Control in Industries, ERP, ISO 14000, OHSAS, Energy
Conservation, Sustainable Development, NBC 2005 etc. The Local Centre has close liaison with leading
engineering organizations, professional Institutions in and around Tiruchirappalli in the conduct of Technical
activities.

Tiruchirappalli
Tiruchirappalli, more commonly referred to as Trichy/Tiruchy,
lies 320 km to the south of Chennai - The Capital of Tamil
Nadu, on the banks of the river Cauvery. Trichy itself, has a
long history, going back to the centuries before the Christian
era, when it was a Chola citadel. In the 12th century, Chola's
were subverted by the Vijayanagarkings ofHampi, who
proudly withstood the invading Muslims. Less than fifty years
later, the Nayaks of Madurai constructed the Rock Fort,
and firmly established Trichy as the trading city. Tiruchirappalli has number of renowned educational
institutions, prominent industries and many other small scale Industrial estates. Tiruchirappalli is also a temple
city. The famous temples are Rockfort Temple, Srirangam (Sri Ranganathasamy Temple), Thiruvanaikaval,
Samayapuram, Vayaloor etc.; the famous St. Johns Church and NatharvalliDargah.Tiruchirappalli has some
beautiful picnic spots like Kallanai, Mukkombu, etc. and a museum. It has a Planetarium at Anna Science Park
in Sembattu near Airport. Tiruchirappalli is connected by road to Chennai (320 km), Madurai (127 km) and to all
major towns in South India by regular bus services. Tiruchirapalli is an important junction on the Southern
Railway. It connects Madras, Thanjavur, Madurai, Tuticorin, Tirupathi, Rameswaram, Bangalore, Coimbatore,
Cochin and Mangalore on the broad gauge.

Objective:
The operating availability factor of
power plants is very important due to
mounting power demand across our
country. The main factor for boiler
outages are tube failures in the various
sections of boiler pressure parts viz,
Economiser, LTSH, water wall etc. This
course aims at sharing the experience
of the various experts in the field of
boiler design and tube failure analysis.
