Alchemical Manuscripts Society

Digital Library Service.
Solstice, 22 Dec.,10
Issue 17.
To the Courteous Reader,

As a super-saturated liquor of salt is transferred to another bottle away from its initial crystals to further materialise,
this humble newsletter has fomed...

Original texts for private sale.

A collector has requested to notify all readers that an original copy is for private sale of Coelum Chymicum
Reseratum, Wie ess von der Fraternitaet Rosae Crucis ist ubersetzet worden philosophice et cabalistice, mit allen
der zugehorigen Handgruffen, 12th May,161(7?)2 (An hand-written collection of Rosicrucian Arcana) translated
into German, by Joh: Georg Toeldens. It has come from a legacy package from one of the true alchemists in the
XXth century and the current owner (under economic hardship) considers that the material should be available
for everybody who wants to study it. Rewardingly a high definition scanned .pdf document has been donated to
RAMS Digital to include in the collection for readers. For those passionately interested in the original book, it is
available from the owner at a request of US$1500.00 inclusive of shipping and insurance UPS expenses. Please
email RAMS for further information. Thank you.

French text assistance request.

Stphane Barillet has developed a course of alchemical work on the site : http://www.cfio.fr/alchimie.html
The great succes of his notebooks in France gave him the idea to translate them into English and Spanish.
He has employed a profesional translater in his counrtry and is now seaching for a person who be able to correct
and finalize the manuscript in order to propose the course to anglosaxon's people.
This persone,Stphane writes, should be able to read french texte too and should know alchimical idioms.
Are you interresting to help find a such persone ? Perhaps you ?..
It would be the occasion for you to discover the secrets lessons, encourages Stphane, that have never been
published at this day.

Workshops

Paracelsus College has announced their next workshops. See the black bar to the right. The course of workshops
that they offer in invaluable in the traditional format of oral transmission and experienced guidance.
The annual International Alchemy Conference (alchcmeyconference.com) is slated for 16-18th September, 2011
at the Long Beach Conference Center, CA. Established in 2007, the conference has enjoyed continued and growing
success. It is now the event that I see discussed most on the web email notice boards.

Writings

Over the last half a year it has been a joy of continued correspondance with readers. I have read some fantastic
emails concerning tales of modern alchemy and am continually amased at the broad spectrum of interests and
inspired authors that draws readers to RAMS. I encourage every reader of this simple newsletter that if they have
not subscribed to Alchemy Journal to do so, but importantly to further engage in the modern Alchemical community
by writing articles, reviews, etc. so as to document this passionate arena.
We wish to congratulate the Publisher of both the Alchemy Journal and Salamander and Sons with the birth of
their first baby! Paul Hardacre writes, Balthus Henry Newell Hardacre was born at 12:59:35 am on 31 August
2010, after a day of pre- and early labour at home and eight hours of natural labour at Chiang Mai Ram Hospital.
Weighing in at a healthy 3.6 kg and with a birth length of 52.5 cm, Balthus is now home and gradually settling in
to a routine of feeding and sleeping. It is no surpise that the Vol.11 No.2. Journal is delayed and rescheduled for
early February, 2011. Congratulations again!

The Final complete collection of the entire archive of R.A.M.S. is approaching.

Next on the list... preparation.

As the final complete collection is approaching the catalogue we be reconstructed. In the new year expect
a private email update for existing readers to purchase an heavily reduced cost final update before the
complete collection is available to new readers. 2011 will be a grand year indeed. Much discussion has
surrounded the increasing demand for a mobile version of the website information resources, we are
investigating a iTouch/iPad version of the website, surprise that be to us as well.. New donations are arriving

Express your protest against the dissolution of the Bibliotheca

Philosophica Hermetica (Ritman Library)

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/ritmanlibrary/

The ipetition currently reads,

It is widely known that the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica in Amsterdam, founded by

J.R. Ritman, was in great danger in the 1990s, when the ING bank took possession of the
collection and threatened to sell it. Fortunately, the Dutch government intervened: the BPH was
put on the list of protected Dutch heritage, and the State eventually acquired over 40% of it. The
books remained at the same physical location, integrated with the rest of the collection, and the
government would eventually acquire all of it. As part of this process, there were great plans for
further expansion. Largely due to the financial crisis and a change of government this was taking
somewhat longer than originally anticipated, but nobody doubted that the library was safe.
Last week this turned out to be incorrect. An extremely valuable medieval manuscript
owned by the BPH (The Grail of Rochefoucauld) was put on sale at Sothebys, and this triggered
a reaction from the Friesland Bank, which took possession of the library, that had apparently
been brought in as collateral, in order to get back a 15 million euro loan from mr Ritman. At
present the BPH is closed, and intense negotiations are going on behind closed doors. It is
impossible at this moment to predict the outcome, but there is no doubt that the situation is
extremely serious. There is a very real possibility that the Friesland bank will try to sell at least
the ca. 60% of the library that is still owned by mr Ritman, and nobody knows what implications
this will have for the rest of the collection and the BPH as a whole, including its staff. The brandnew government of the Netherlands has announced a program of radical financial cuts in the
culture section and elsewhere, which makes a renewed intervention from that side highly unlikely.
If the Ritman library would go down, this would mean an enormous blow to international
scholarship in hermetic studies. The damage would be irreversible. By signing this petition you
express your concern, and ask the Dutch government and the Friesland bank to do their utmost
to ensure that the collection will be saved and will remain available for the international scholarly
community.
Additionally, you can express your concern by means of a signed letter. The initiative
for this petition comes from the Center for History of Hermetic Philosophy
(http://www.amsterdamhermetica.nl/) and related currents at the University of Amsterdam
(organizationally independent of the BPH, and not in any danger itself), so please send your letter
to its director (Email: w.j.hanegraaff [ at ] uva.nl):
Prof. Wouter J. Hanegraaff,
Oude Turfmarkt 141-147,
1012 GC Amsterdam,
The Netherlands.
