MODULE 3: Hiring, Placement and Induction

1. Give the importance of the hiring process.


It is important to have a strong work force. The success of a company or
organization starts with hiring talented employees capable of doing the right jobs
at the right time. So it is imperative for the Human Resource Department to look
for these people, formulate an excellent program for hiring that fits the overall
goals of the company and avoid common hiring mistakes that cause loss of time
and profit.

2. In the light of your experience and readings, explain in your own words the
standard procedures adopted by all organizations:
2.1.

Initial Interview
It is usually a short interview. The purpose is for the interviewer to get a
quick feel of the interviewee whether she could cull him out from the stack
of applicants or allow him for further screening. In here, a set of quick
questions mostly related to his previous job if there is any or
accomplishments he achieved in his studies and previous work is asked.
Also, a few tricky questions will pop out from the interviewer like Why did
you apply for the job? which requires a deeper answer than having to
have a decent job.

2.2.

Check references
It is important to check references of applicants. It is a gauge of the
applicants personality and the scope of his social experiences and
networks. References are used for applicants background to see how he
stands in his community and what he is in real person according to the
people he wrote as reference.

2.3.

Psychological Tests
It is used to gauge the applicants state of mind whether he is fit for the job
he applies for. Psychological tests are seldom employed in hiring unless

called for like high paying or very sensitive positions. The test covers
Clinical test, IQ test, Personality and Behavioral Assessment.

Placement
This is the last phase of the hiring process where the applicant has
successfully completed and passed all that is required of him for his job.
He starts as a probationary or temporary status. He will be observed and
assessed for a definite time frame before he gets his regular status.

Case Analysis:
The town mayor of Sto. Nio, where the plant NNC manufacturing company is
located sent to Mr. Garcia, general manager, his private secretary and two former
domestic helpers. They arrived at the company compound in a police car, and the
secretary told Mr. Garcia that the two maids were compromise recommendees of the
mayor. What would you do if the general referred to you?

My opinion:
I do not have anything to do with the recommended people because they are
direct referrals intended for the general manager and not in my office.
Moreover, I am an education department head and those recommendees do not
have a space in my department. Except for the private secretary who could at least get
an immediate exam and interview if I have a vacancy for the job, I will politely turn down
the request.
