More nationalities are choosing to study overseas. This choice brings

many advantages which far outweigh the disadvantages. Discuss these
advantages.

Studying abroad is an important part in anyones life. It offer

incomparable opportunity to individuals to grow academically,
professionally as well as personally. Moreover , it exposes students to
think differently. Studying abroad has some disadvantages. However, the
advantages far exceed the disadvantages (Bohrer, n.d.).
The most common challenge that students encounter when they move
abroad to study is culture shock Regardless how much knowledge they
gather regarding the country in which they are going to study, they
always find differences their home country and the new country. For
example, the food, the culture, the habit and the custom may be different.
As a result, one might need long time to adapt in other country or else
they get homesick. Moreover, they will miss their family, country, friends
and others (Arora, 2014).
On the other hand, studying abroad opens up the opportunity to get
exposed to different cultures and viewpoints. When one study abroad they
meet students from other countries which allows them to learn variety of
different cultures, not to mention viewpoints which they find it difficult to
accept before. As a result, they become more experienced and broadminded which teaches them to appreciate other nations culture and
history (Oxford Royale Academy, 2014).
The second problem that the students have to face while studying abroad
is language barrier. In abroad communication is the key to efficiency. If
the students are not fluent in native language they may find it difficult to
interact with their lecturers and classmates, which can create situations
for what seems like mundane tasks (Arora,2014).
Despite having language barrier the students can practice and learn a
new language. In addition, by using the foreign language in their daily life
they get more fluent and therefore it gradually becomes easy for them to
absorb their lesson. Additionally learning a different language will open up
the to work in an multinational company (Oxford Royale Academy, 2014).
The third hurdle that students have to face when they go overseas to
study is living alone by themselves in a completely unknown country. As a
consequence, they sometime find it difficult to navigate a foreign place
since they are not used to live on their own before. Furthermore, finding
funds can be very difficult as the cost of living in foreign country is

expensive. Not to mention along with their tuition fees they also have to
pay for accommodation, transport, food etc. (Pratt, 2015).
Alternatively, a benefit of studying abroad is that it allows individual to
develop personally by overcoming the initial difficulty which the students
face during their period of study overseas which in turn develops their
maturity and their ability to handle new situations. Additionally, it also
teaches the student to manage their own finances since it is their
responsibility to pay the bills at the end of the month not their parents
(International Student, n.d.).
The last and the most difficult hurdle a student might come across while
studying abroad is non-transferable credits. For some countries or
universities their study abroad credit might not count towards their
degree. Therefore, causing an increase in study time which may result in
frustration one might even start feeling lost or alienated. They might also
feel lonely as there is no relative or parents to confront them in their
difficult times. Furthermore, making good friendship takes time and it may
be difficult in a country that they are not used to (Pratt, 2015).
Though there is problems like non-transferable credits and homesickness
one cannot simply overlook the advantages like career opportunities that
studying abroad present us. When one graduate from countries like USA,
Australia or England they get a quality education which is accepted
globally. Needless to say when they finish their study program from
abroad and return home and start seeking jobs, they will likely to impress
employers, who have gone out and experienced things as well as actively
developed their skills and knowledge by studying abroad. As a result it will
be easy to get job for those who studied abroad since they have
international exposure (International Student, n.d.).
To put it in a nutshell, though studying abroad has some disadvantages
and one cannot simply throw out the challenges that is associated with it.
However, we all have to agree on one point that whenever somebody
travels to a new place he always learns something new which help him or
her to think differently thereby unlocking his or her full potential with
which he can achieve something greater in life, and studying abroad
opens up that path for unlocking that particular potential, so one should
not hesitate to study abroad when the opportunity arises.
