Lesson 2: Q and A

1. What St Paul says to show that all men are in need for salvation is None is
righteous, no, not one. This was said in Romans 3: 10 and highlighted the
universality of sin to show that the whole mankind was in need for salvation.
2. The experience of salvation is living in freedom and love with God and also being
part of his own people and united to him.
3. We say that obedience to the commandments is the condition for salvation because
by following it, we may become a holy and redeemed people who are Gods own. It
also constituted as a way of life that ensured salvation for those who obeyed it.
4. Jesus is the savior of the world because he was sent to this earth so that through
his suffering, death and resurrection, humanity might be liberated from sin and all
prophecies made about him might be fulfilled. In the dream which Joseph had, he
was told by the angel that Mary will give birth to a son and he was to name him
Jesus for he will save his people from their sins. The angels also appeared to the
shepherds with glad tidings proclaiming that the saviour of the world had been
born. When Jesus presented in the temple, Simeon even proclaimed that he had
seen salvation after seeing him.
5. The sacraments and salvation are very closely interrelated. The sacraments are the
means through which we are to obtain forgiveness of sins, salvation and eternal life.
By offering us forgiveness of sins and divine life, the sacraments lead us to
experience salvation by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Lesson 3: Q and A
1. What we mean by faith is that it is mans response to Gods call who reveals
himself. The expression of faith is a loving surrender to God. Faith is founded on the
belief that the word of God will be done even if it is unintelligible to the human
mind. Faith itself is founded on the deep-love relationship with God. When we are
moved by love, we surrender our mind, intelligence and heart as an act of faith.
2. Faith is reflected in the life of Abraham when he believed Gods word and his
promise. When Sarah couldnt bear a son at such an old age, Abraham knew that
what was impossible for mankind was possible for God. Mary, the mother of Jesus,
reflected her faith in her life when she believed the message of the angel and
submitted to the will of God.
3. The five attributes of faith are
It is mans response to God who reveals himself.
It is the total acceptance of all that God has revealed.
It is mans total obedience and self-surrender.
It is the awareness that it is God who enables us to believe and strengthens
us in our faith.
It is the awareness that faith is both mans response to God and a free gift of
God.
4. The proclamation of the gospel leads to faith. This statement is discussed in
Romans 10: 14 where St Paul asks how people are supposed to call on someone
whom they have not believed in, how people are supposed to believe in him without
hearing about him and how are people supposed hear about him without a
preacher. The proclamation is essential in order to lead people to faith. This duty
was entrusted to us, the Church, by Jesus. He told his disciples to proclaim the good
news to the whole creation and it was their witnessing and preaching which led
many to faith.
5. Christian faith is also heavily community-based. There are two dimensions to faith:
individual and social. Faith is a participation in the fellowship of the church. In the
Act of the Apostles, we can see the community of believers and how they lived.

They shared everything they had and sold their possessions. They broke the bread
together and such. The church is a community who respond to Gods call with faith
and live together in prayer, sharing and fellowship.
