Consider a steam power plant operating on the ideal reheat rankine cycle. Steam enters the high pressure turbine at 4B Mpa and 873 K and is condensed in the condenser at a pressure of 3B kPa. If the moisture content of the steam at the exit of the low pressure turbine is not to exceed 10.4 % , find (i) The pressure at which the steam should be reheated (ii) Pump work (iii) Turbine work (iv) cycle efficiency (v) The condenser heat flow (vi) Specific steam consumption. Assume the steam is reheated to the inlet temperature of the high pressure turbine 3. A regenerative Rankine cycle has steam entering turbine at 50B , 164B C and leaving at 0.0125B bar. Considering feed water heaters to be of open type determine thermal efficiency for the following conditions;(a) there is no feed water heater(b) there is only one feed water heater working at 8 bar(c) there are two feed water heaters working at 42 bar and 4.5 bar respectively. 4. Consider a steam power plant that operates on a reheat rankine cycle and has a net power output of 21B MW, steam enters the high pressure turbine at 3B MPa and 5000 C and low pressure turbine at 1 MPa and 5000 C. steam leaves the condenser as a saturated liquid at a pressure of 10kPa. The isentropic efficiency of the turbine is 80%, and that of the pump is 95%. Show the cycle on a T-s diagram with respect to saturation lines, and determine (i) The quality (or temperature, if superheated) of the steam at the turbine exit (ii) The thermal efficiency of the cycle (iii) The mass flow rate of the steam (iv) Work done (v) The condenser heat flow (vi) Specific steam consumption. (vii) Pump work 6. A steam power plant operating on a simple rakine cycle between the pressure limits of B MPa and 50 kPa. The temperature of the steam at the turbine inlet is 300C and the mass flow rate through the cycle is 35 kg/s. Determine thermal efficiency and power output of the plant. 7. In a reheat cycle, the initial steam pressure and the maximum temperature are 39B bar and 130B0 C respectively. If the condenser pressure is 0.1 bar and the moisture at the condenser inlet is 5 % and assuming ideal processes, determine (i) The reheat pressure. (ii) The cycle efficiency. (iii) The steam rate. 8. Consider a steam power plant that operates on a reheat Rankine cycle and has a net power output of 84MW. Steam enters the high pressure turbine at 3B MPa and 124B C and low pressure turbine at 1 MPa and 500C. Steam leaves the condenser at a pressure of 10kPa. The isentropic efficiency of turbine and pump are 80% & 95%. Determine (i) the quality (or temperature, if superheated) of the steam at the turbine exit (ii) thermal efficiency and mass flow rate of the steam.
