9th Module

Monitor

Monitor Divides in three parts

1. CRT
2. Circuit Board
3. Fly Back

1. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube).

1. Yolk Coil (Horizontal and vertical)

2. Grid / Convaisal
3. Electron Gun
4. Fly Back Point
5. Glass Screen
6. Phosphor Powder Layer
7. Shadow Mask
8. Aluminum Sheet

2. Fly Back.

Use for providing high voltages to CRT.

3. Circuit Board.

PCB also divides in further portions.

1. Power Supply
2. Vertical
3. Horizontal
4. Contrast
5. Color (Red, Green, Blue)

Problem Types.

1. Visual
2. Hidden

1. Visual

Easy to diagnose and remove. Because fault shown on the screen. In this monitor
power and display is ok, but problems are present.
e.g.
1. Horizontal Size Small

Problem in power supply capacitor. (approx. 400 volt, big in size)

2. Vertical Size Small

Capacitor Problem that is near to vertical IC (approx. 35 volt, 60 uf)

Vertical variable problem near to IC and capacitor.

3. Power Supply Problem

Curved Lines

Resistance, Diode or capacitor problem.

4. Power Supply Weak

Zigzag Lines

Dry soldering, components weak.

5. Horizontal Shift / Hold

Half Picture

Pin # 13 breaks

6. Vertical Shift Hold (Half Picture or Picture Rolling)

Half Picture Picture Rolling

Pin # 14 breaks, picture rolling, rolling possible in vertically only.

7. Picture Tube Weak

When shutting down the monitor small dot visible and disappear
Change the picture tube.

8. Horizontal Line

Thin line in mid of screen

Yolk coil, fly back, variable resistance or horizontal circuit problem

9. Vertical Line

Thin line in mid of screen

Yolk coil, vertical IC, variable resistance or vertical circuit problem

10. Display Not Shown

Black screen

Check the Brightness & Contrast variables setting that are given bottom side of
monitor.

How to read Circuit (Circuit Series)

001 – 099 Power Supply

100 – 199
200 – 299 Vertical
300 – 399 Contrast
400 – 499 Horizontal
500 – 599 Color (Red 501 – 520, Green 521 – 540, Blue 541 – 560)
600 – 699
700 – 799
800 – 899
900 – 999

Each no can be repeat in the circuit board, but in same series with different component.
e.g.

C433, C456, R433, R456, D433

Color Problem.

1. Max. Red color visible.

Its means Red color is OK check the Green & Blue color.

2. Max. Blue color visible.

Its means Blue color is OK check the Green & Red color.

3. Max. Green color visible.

Its means Green color is OK check the Red & Blue color.

How to check the color.

From BIOS setting press F-2, check the three colors Red, Green & Blue are
shown if any color not shown from these three colors its means that is missed.

Open Paint Brush check from color toolbar three colors are shown RGB. If any
color missed that is not shown in color toolbar.

How to set the colors.

When you confirming about color that is missed. You should change the color
IC/Transistor that create problem.
1. First of all remove a correct color component.
2. Replace by incorrect component.
3. If missed color shown and correct color gone. Its means it is component problem.
4. Now purchase a new IC/Transistor and change with bad component.

How to check the color Gun Health.

1. Meter should be set at resistance.

2. Meter black lead should be ground.
3. Meter red lead touch on the RGB gun one by one.
4. Red lead touch for a moment.
5. Take a mirror in front of monitor screen and check three colors when meter red
lead touch on the Rk, Gk, Bk point, then red, green and blue color shown on by
one.

Checking the RGB Gun Voltages.

1. Meter selector set at DCV 250.

2. Meter Black lead should be ground with monitor body.
3. Meter Red lead touch on the RGB gun one by one, and note the reading.
4. 75 – 150 DCV at each Gun with respect to monitor screen size.

Yolk Coil Voltage.

Yellow 9 volt DC Vertical Coil wires

Brown 9 volt DC
Blue 92 / 100 volt DC Horizontal Coil wires
Red infinity
Checking the main (Horizontal) Transistor.

Function.
1. Provide switching to Fly Back.
2. Provide display on the screen.

Position.
1. Attach with Fly Back.
2. Big in Size.
3. Quantity max. one, but depends on manufacture.

Checking.
1. Remove the transistor from PCB, or open the middle terminal from PCB depends
on your ease.
2. Meter selector set at DCV 250.
3. Meter Black lead should be ground with monitor body.
4. Meter Red lead touch on the middle point / track where transistor placed, and note
the reading.
5. Reading must be exact 95 DCV in all types of Monitors and TV.
6. If this reading doesn’t shown its means problem in component.

Therestor
1. At the PCB mention S (Source), D (Drain) and G (Gait) same shape like
transistor. Therestor also belongs to transistor family.
2. Quantity in monitor two or three. Placed in Power Supply.
3. therestor provide Voltage to main transistor.
4. At D (Drain) check 100 – 110 DCV.
5. At second therestor that is provide 95 DCV to main transistor.
6. At second therestor voltage also will be 95 DCV because therestor provides the
voltage to main transistor.

Power Main Fly

Supply Therestor Transistor Back

(Block Diagram of Voltage passed)

Power Supply
1. If at therestor you haven’t any voltage than in power supply check on the big size
of capacitor 350 – 400 DCV.
2. Check other components related to power supply. Fuse, bridge, transistor, chopper
transformer & etc.
