Aviyanta 2015 and Fourth TTL Anniversary Issue, DoME

Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME), Kathmandu University, in association with


Association of Mechanical Engineering Students (AMES) organized a project exhibition
program Aviyantaa'15 on 26 November, 2015 in Block 8, School of Engineering. The event
marked the release of 2nd issue of Aviyantaa, the yearbook of the Department and also the 4th
Anniversary of Turbine Testing Lab (TTL). In the event, the 2nd issue of Aviyantaa'15 was
released jointly by Dean, School of Engineering & Registrar of Kathmandu University Prof. Dr.
Bhola Thapa and Vice President of SINTEF Energy, Norway & Steering Committee member of
RenewableNepal Dr. Petter Stoa while the 4th Anniversary issue of Turbine Testing Lab was
released by Prof. Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug, Mr. Brd Aslak Brandstr from Norwegian University
of Science & Technology (NTNU) Norway, and Mr. Fredrik Warring from Research Council of
Norway.
Prof. Inui Masatomo from Ibaraki University, Japan and most of the KU officials including Prof.
Dr. Mohan Bikram Gewali, Dean School of Science, Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma, Director of
Research, Development & Consultancy (RDC), Prof. Dr. Ramesh Kumar Maskey, Associate
Dean, (Academic & Administrative), Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha Associate Dean, (Extracurricular and others), Associate Professor & Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Hari Prasad Neopane attended the formal program held at TTL Auditorium along with other
faculty members and students from different departments and research fellows from TTL.
Associate Professor & Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Hari Prasad
Neopane welcomed the guests and discussed the current status of the department and its recent
achievements. He also highlighted 2-decade long journey of the department and its contribution
in Nepal's technical field of education. Since its establishment in 1994 AD, the department has
achieved different academic fetes and undergone considerable transformation in terms of course,
labs, infrastructures and activities. Dr. Neopane also remembered and congratulated all the
graduates and researchers from department and TTL who are doing their businesses in different
parts of the world. Mr. Pratisthit Lal Shrestha, Lecturer at Department of Mechanical
Engineering, shed light on the genesis of Aviyantaa and its importance in providing a platform
for the students to demonstrate their hard work and creativity they have put in through project
works. He wholeheartedly thanked the sponsors, AMES, students and faculty members involved
in organizing the exhibition and bringing out the Yearbook. In the same way, Mr. Binaya Baidar,
Research Fellow at TTL emphasized the major research activities and achievements of the lab
this year. He also highlighted the recent and ongoing activities of the lab. Prof. Ole Gunnar

Dahlhaug recalled the time when he came to KU back in 2003 with the view of developing
academic and research activities related to hydropower. The contribution of NTNU and Norway
was quite significant during the budding stage of the department. Dr. Bhola Thapa opined that
the research and academic excellence achieved by the department must be translated to society
and industry where the real engineering meets its mark. Mr. Kailash Thapa, AMES President,
summed up the program by thanking all the guests, students and sponsors for making the event a
triumphant fete.
Aviyantaa is the departments new initiation in organizing annual project exhibition and
departments Yearbook with the same name. Started in 2014, Aviyantaa comprises of two
events- release of the Yearbook of the department and holding the exhibition of the projects
carried out by undergraduate students. The Yearbook incorporates news articles and stories
regarding various aspects and activities occurring in the department and compilation of abstracts
of project works. The event has been marked as one of the most happening programs at the
School which is witnessed by the faculty members, admin staffs and students from different
departments. More than 500 visitors observed with keen interest the project works displayed by
the undergraduate students. Students showcased their project works through demonstration of
product, slideshows and poster presentation.

The event was coordinated by volunteers of AMES. Ms. Pragati Poudel (Batch 2013) emceed the
program.
