1 Background
This document summarizes the Bosch VMS and BVIP design specifications, and is a guide to
planning a Bosch VMS system with Bosch cameras and storage. It focuses on Bosch VMS with
VRM. For detailed overview on the new feature set of Bosch VMS 5.0 and known restrictions,
pls refer to the Release Notes published in the Internet (www.boschsecurity.com).
This document is subject to change. Once a new version is published, earlier versions are void.
2 Design Specifications
This document lists the valid design specifications for version 5.0.x. You require an updated
version of this document to commission sales for a more recent version of Bosch VMS.

Operating Systems and requirements on the server: Pls refer to the data-sheet
All IP devices must be associated to 1 Management Server. IP devices must not be
shared between multiple Management Servers.
IP-Cameras, -Encoders and -Decoders must not be shared with other systems. For
temporary migration reasons VIDOS and BRS can stream video from IP cameras or encoders in parallel to Bosch VMS, but be aware of overloading the encoder.
Bosch VMS supports connection to BVIP devices through HTTP or HTTPS only when
Operator Client connects via port-forwarding from a remote site. It is not configurable in
LAN.
Changing the RCP+ port is also not supported.

Direct iSCSI and Local Storage is supported for devices which support Firmware 4.x and
above. I.e. no Local Storage support for VIPX1/X2 and VJ800x.
VRM and Local Storage support recording
o Pre-Alarm, Alarm and Post-Alarm, while pre- and post- must be at least 15 seconds. This means, pre-alarm is always streaming over the network (except when
using ANR).
o Continuous, Alarm and Post-Alarm, while post must be at least 15 seconds.
VRM/iSCSI and local recording do not support the configuration of Holidays for recording. Special Days must be used.
New: Support of E-series with dual controller system with 2x2 ports to increase number
of cameras
New: Dual recording
o Licensed per channel using the following license: MBV-DUR-50
o Dual recording refers to simultaneous recording from one camera on two different storage targets.
o A Secondary VRM can record the second stream of the camera from various
primary VRMs.
Use case: A Secondary VRM records only the most important cameras of
various sites, saving costs:

Failover VRM can be configured for a Primary VRM as well as for a Secondary
VRM.
For projects, that used the dual recording or failover recording workaround prior to
Bosch VMS 5.0:
o Respective licenses are needed per channel for dual recording and failover recording. Commercial solution might be requested from BU-ESS/MKP1.1 in case,
that new licenses cannot be sold. After licensing, the VRM configuration needs to
be imported into Bosch VMS by context menu on an empty VRM node in Configuration Client.
o
New: VSG supports alarm recording triggered by Bosch VMS events. (Events from
ONVIF cameras are not yet supported though).
New: Apart from the ONVIF protocol, VSG now also supports other formats: RCP+,
RTSP, JPEG.
o Connection state is not supported for RCP+, RTSP and JPEG
o PTZ is not supported for these formats
Works with CPP-ENC and CPP4 with Firmware version 5.90 or later.
Firmware 5.92 improves the initial functionality of ANR to become more robust against
local storage media failures and includes a few fixes.
Bosch VMS issues an alarm, when the buffer storage on the local SD card reaches a
critical state (default setting is 90%) and another alarm, when recordings are overwritten. An alarm is also issued, when SD card is missing or broken.
ANR and dual recording is mutually exclusive. User can configure either ANR or dual
recording for a camera.
Please refer to the Release Notes and the Whitepaper of ANR to find out about the
known limits and recommendations. These documents are available in the documents
section of the IP cameras in the Bosch Product Catalog in the Internet.

No support for decoder connections
Although implemented in Bosch VMS 5.0, this feature is unfortunately not working 100%
reliably yet. Known effects are, that search results are missing sporadically, and searching for /
playing back video with additional data may cause unexpected effects. This will be solved by a
Firmware upgrade (and if the circumstances require) a Bugfix release of a Bosch VMS version
5.0.x
BVMS 5.0 can record additional data. Additional data is searched for in Bosch VMS via
the Logbook.
Additional data can be received by Bosch VMS by the following means:
o Virtual inputs
o Foyer Card Reader
o German ATM interface DTP3N
o By devices which use the same protocol as the ATM/POS bridge (EOL) or one of
the other before mentioned devices
Known restrictions
o In general: Additional data can be recorded in either Logbook only, or in Logbook
and recording. The search for additional data is always performed in the logbook
and has the following limitations:
10*Virtual Input (VI) with length 300 = 3000 characters: 109 items*/sec
(average)
10 * VI data field with length 800 = 8000 characters: 22 items*/sec (average)
10 * VI data field with length 30 = 300 characters: 500 items*/sec
(average)
*Item = data Input Event.
o If data is stored in the recording then there is an additional restriction:
A maximum of 3200 Bytes (corresponds to about 3200 English characters in Unicode) can be processed per event.

with Bosch VMS 5.0
Barco RCP+ SDK Agent requires activation of multicast in all used cameras.
It does not support multiple drag and drop support (sequences).
It does not support replay.
The RCP+ Agent requires a license from BARCO.
In Bosch VMS the RCP+ Agent is connected as a single decoder supporting up to 64
cameras.
The RCP+ Agent supports asymmetrical layouts.
In Bosch VMS the monitor wall is licensed with a single channel license (MBV-XCHAN50).
