2.2 System facts

Operating Systems and requirements on the server: Pls refer to the data-sheet
All IP devices must be associated to 1 Management Server. IP devices must not be
shared between multiple Management Servers.
IP-Cameras, -Encoders and -Decoders must not be shared with other systems. For
temporary migration reasons VIDOS and BRS can stream video from IP cameras or encoders in parallel to Bosch VMS, but be aware of overloading the encoder.
Bosch VMS supports connection to BVIP devices through HTTP or HTTPS only when
Operator Client connects via port-forwarding from a remote site. It is not configurable in
LAN.
Changing the RCP+ port is also not supported.

2.3 Devices
Bosch VMS supports, in addition to the legacy encoders and decoders:

New Flexidome and Dinion 2000/4000/5000/7000/8000/9000 cameras series

MIC 550/612 and MIC 7000
VJD 3000 and 7000 including the support of 2 monitors

Bosch VMS 5.0 supports ONVIF Profile S:

ONVIF cameras are detected in network scan
Life images of ONVIF cameras are shown
Supports PTZ control
Recording, playback and export is possible via Video Streaming Gateway
If an ONVIF camera provides a second stream, this can be selected for
live view
State supervision of ONVIF cameras is supported with Bosch VMS 5.0
Configuration of ONVIF camera within Bosch VMS is not yet supported
Events of the ONVIF cameras is not supported yet.
For the max. no. of ONVIF cameras connected to a Video Streaming Gateway,
pls refer to the VSG datasheet.
ONVIF cameras via VSG works on Monitor Wall with latest FW.
ONVIF cameras are listed on the following webpage: www.onvif.org

2.5 Enterprise Management System

The Enterprise Management System is described in detail in the Bosch VMS Configuration
Manual. This section just highlights some points, which are often mistaken during system design.
The MBV-BENT license contains 2 subsystem
o Whereof one subsystem is needed to connect the Enterprise Management
Server itself.
An Enterprise Operator Client licensed at the Enterprise Management Server does not
require an additional workstation license at the Management Server to which it is connected (subsystem). On the other side, the workstation licenses included in the Professional license of the subsystems cannot be used for the Enterprise Operator Clients.
o Off-Client capability is also ensured for Enterprise Operator Client.

2.6 Recording
2.6.1 VRM

From VRM datasheet: One VRM supports:

o 2048 channels
o 1 PB storage (net capacity)
o 40 disk arrays (recommended)
o maximum 120 iSCSI targets supported
When planning for larger environments we strongly recommend using large sized disk
arrays instead of a large number of small disk arrays (vertical scaling instead of horizontal scaling). For systems with more than 40 disk arrays, please contact a Bosch Design
Engineer. iSCSI based storage systems not qualified by Bosch are not supported.
Bosch VMS supports multiple Pools (Pooling implemented in VRM 3.0).
o Migration from former VRM versions is possible.

28 July 2014

Direct iSCSI and Local Storage is supported for devices which support Firmware 4.x and
above. I.e. no Local Storage support for VIPX1/X2 and VJ800x.
VRM and Local Storage support recording
o Pre-Alarm, Alarm and Post-Alarm, while pre- and post- must be at least 15 seconds. This means, pre-alarm is always streaming over the network (except when
using ANR).
o Continuous, Alarm and Post-Alarm, while post must be at least 15 seconds.
VRM/iSCSI and local recording do not support the configuration of Holidays for recording. Special Days must be used.
New: Support of E-series with dual controller system with 2x2 ports to increase number
of cameras
New: Dual recording
o Licensed per channel using the following license: MBV-DUR-50
o Dual recording refers to simultaneous recording from one camera on two different storage targets.
o A Secondary VRM can record the second stream of the camera from various
primary VRMs.
Use case: A Secondary VRM records only the most important cameras of
various sites, saving costs:

Dual recording has a special mode called Mirrored recording.

The Secondary VRM uses the exact same configuration with the same
devices and quality settings as the Primary VRM. Only the retention time
can deviate.
Advantage: Devices added to the Primary VRM are automatically added
to the Secondary VRM.
New: Failover recording
o Licensed per channel using the following license: MBV-FOV-50.
o Failover recording is set up for another VRM. When the Primary VRM fails, the
Failover VRM will take over the management of the recording, using the exact
same configuration. Hence, one Failover VRM is needed for redundancy of another VRM (1:1 relation).

Failover VRM can be configured for a Primary VRM as well as for a Secondary
VRM.
For projects, that used the dual recording or failover recording workaround prior to
Bosch VMS 5.0:
o Respective licenses are needed per channel for dual recording and failover recording. Commercial solution might be requested from BU-ESS/MKP1.1 in case,
that new licenses cannot be sold. After licensing, the VRM configuration needs to
be imported into Bosch VMS by context menu on an empty VRM node in Configuration Client.
o

2.6.2 Video Streaming Gateway (VSG)

New: VSG supports alarm recording triggered by Bosch VMS events. (Events from
ONVIF cameras are not yet supported though).
New: Apart from the ONVIF protocol, VSG now also supports other formats: RCP+,
RTSP, JPEG.
o Connection state is not supported for RCP+, RTSP and JPEG
o PTZ is not supported for these formats

2.6.3 New: Automatic Network Replenishment (ANR)

Works with CPP-ENC and CPP4 with Firmware version 5.90 or later.
Firmware 5.92 improves the initial functionality of ANR to become more robust against
local storage media failures and includes a few fixes.
Bosch VMS issues an alarm, when the buffer storage on the local SD card reaches a
critical state (default setting is 90%) and another alarm, when recordings are overwritten. An alarm is also issued, when SD card is missing or broken.
ANR and dual recording is mutually exclusive. User can configure either ANR or dual
recording for a camera.
Please refer to the Release Notes and the Whitepaper of ANR to find out about the
known limits and recommendations. These documents are available in the documents
section of the IP cameras in the Bosch Product Catalog in the Internet.

2.6.5 Additional Data On hold / not released

Although implemented in Bosch VMS 5.0, this feature is unfortunately not working 100%
reliably yet. Known effects are, that search results are missing sporadically, and searching for /
playing back video with additional data may cause unexpected effects. This will be solved by a
Firmware upgrade (and if the circumstances require) a Bugfix release of a Bosch VMS version
5.0.x

BVMS 5.0 can record additional data. Additional data is searched for in Bosch VMS via
the Logbook.
Additional data can be received by Bosch VMS by the following means:
o Virtual inputs
o Foyer Card Reader
o German ATM interface DTP3N
o By devices which use the same protocol as the ATM/POS bridge (EOL) or one of
the other before mentioned devices
Known restrictions
o In general: Additional data can be recorded in either Logbook only, or in Logbook
and recording. The search for additional data is always performed in the logbook
and has the following limitations:
10*Virtual Input (VI) with length 300 = 3000 characters: 109 items*/sec
(average)
10 * VI data field with length 800 = 8000 characters: 22 items*/sec (average)
10 * VI data field with length 30 = 300 characters: 500 items*/sec
(average)
*Item = data Input Event.
o If data is stored in the recording then there is an additional restriction:
A maximum of 3200 Bytes (corresponds to about 3200 English characters in Unicode) can be processed per event.

VIPXD decoders do support H.264 BP+, which however must be limited to

1200Kbps for ARM based devices, and 2500Kbps for XFM4 devices
VJD 3000/7000 does not support 4k cameras as the resolution is limited to
1080p.
Bosch VMS and BVIP components are tested on Bosch hardware. You can deploy a Bosch VMS system on 3rd party servers and workstations, following the
minimum requirements. For workstations you must use one of the recommended
graphic cards. For issues on servers and workstations which cannot be reproduced in tech support, we will ask you to reproduce the issue on Bosch hardware.
DiBos, BRS and DVRs are integrated into Bosch VMS as transceivers. This
means, both live and playback video is streamed through DiBos/BRS/DVR.
Therefore, you cannot show any - DiBos/BRS/DVR image on a BVIP decoder
like VIPXD.

2.11 Calculations

Encoding of IP encoders and cameras is limited and must under no circumstances be

overloaded. To check if the required resolution, IPS and streaming values are achievable, check VRM calculation excel sheet.
Storage must be calculated taking iSCSI sessions, RAID levels and internal buffer into
consideration. In order to calculate the required storage for certain video bandwidth levels and retention times, use the VRM calculator or the BVMS approval check-list in its
latest available versions.

2.12 Further design information

For system examples please refer to Bosch VMS Blueprints

Bosch VMS requires an extension of the Software Maintenance Agreement after 1 year
of License Activation in SLMS. Without a valid SMA, the system is not covered by Technical Support and will not receive upgrades to future revisions.
Upgrading to 5.0 requires a valid SMA.
New purchases have one year of SMA included, hence activations after July 28th 2013
will still be able to upgrade to BVMS 5.0.
Installations that activated before July 28th 2013 are required to extend the SMA.
