Good Things Grow Here

Happy New Year to Everyone

Welcome back to the new term. We hope you all enjoyed a restful and enjoyable family break. We would
like to thank you all for the many good wishes and gifts we received from families.
INSET days
Safeguarding
It was a busy start to the school year for our school team. On Monday 04 January Sarah White, Learning
Mentor, delivered training in safeguarding to all our staff. They completed the Safeguarding Children in
Education Basic Awareness, level 2 accreditation.
As a reminder the members of staff you need to contact if you have any safeguarding or child protection
concerns are

Prevent Duty
Mill View seeks to protect children and young people against the messages of all violent extremism. We
recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation and extremism is no different from safeguarding against
any other vulnerability. Further information on radicalisation and extremism and schools responsibilities
within the Prevent duty can be found in our safeguarding policy.
Department for Education - Extremism Helpline
The DfE has recently launched a helpline for anyone concerned about a child who may be at risk of
extremism, or about extremism within an organisation working with children and young people.

Mathematics
On Tuesday 05 January the teaching teams at Kelsall School and
Mill View School, alongside colleagues from St Oswalds CE
Primary School and Acresfield Primary School, enjoyed a day
working with Martin Little, Assistant Director at the National
Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics. Mr Little
shared ways in which we can teach our pupils to
become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, so
that they develop conceptual understanding and the
ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and
accurately

Message from our local

Celebrating pupils writing in Year 5

We are very proud of our pupils writing at Mill View and it was lovely to read the quality pieces of writing
in Year 5 which Miss Fray has displayed. Please pop into the Year 5 classroom and read the childrens

Great excitement we have recently purchased electric hand dryers for children to use in the key stage
2 toilets. We are hoping that this will decrease the number of paper towels we find on the floor on the
ceiling and down the urinals in the boys toilets.
