Top 10 airports in Europe by number of
passengers served in 2014
A few days ago were
released figures on the
number of passengers who
transited
airports
in
Europe. The busiest in the
world remained the same:
London Heathrow, Paris
Charles de Gaulle and
Frankfurt. Surprise comes
from
Istanbul
Ataturk
Airport which had in 2014 an increase of 11.2% and climbed to 4th
position, ahead of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
The top looks like this:
London Heathrow Passenger throughput of 73.5 million
passengers - 1.5% increase compared to 2013
Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport - Passenger throughput of 63.9
million - 2.9% growth to 2013
Frankfurt Passenger throughput of 59.5 million - 2.5% growth
to 2013
Istanbul Atatrk - Passenger throughput of 56.9 million - 11.2%
increase compared to 2013
Amsterdam Schiphol - Passenger throughput of 55.1 million 4.7% growth to 2013
Madrid-Barajas, Adolfo Surez - Passenger throughput of 41.9
million - 5.4% increase compared to 2013
Munich Passenger throughput of 39.6 million - 2.6% growth to
2013
Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Passenger throughput of
38.5 million - increase of 6.8% over 2013
London Gatwick - Passenger throughput 38.2 million - increase
of 7.6% over 2013
Barcelona El Prat - Passenger throughput 37.6 million - increase
of 6.8% over 2013

Lufthansa begins operations with "TaxiBot"

Lufthansa began using the


electric hybrid tractor for towing
aircraft with the engine stopped
on the track. Lufthansa has
released
the
following
statement: "Following approval
from the European Aviation
Safety in (EASA), Lufthansa
LOESS, a subsidiary of Lufthansa
Technik AG, started operations
with the innovative tractor TaxiBot created by Israel Aerospace
Industries (IAI ) with close collaboration of Lufthansa LOESS. After
intensive testing, TaxiBot will now be used for actual flight operations
at Frankfurt Airport.
At a media event held at the airport on February 19, TaxiBot
procedures have been demonstrated to local and international
journalists, while a Boeing 737-500 was placed in position for takeoff.
TaxiBot is a 800 horsepower electric pilot-controlled tractor and is
used to tow aircraft from departure gate to the runway with the
engines off.
"Lufthansa Group sets global standards in sustainable mobility. With
innovations like TaxiBot not only help conserve fuel, but
accomplishes an important contribution to reducing noise and CO2
emissions at airports," said Kay Kratky, Lufthansa board member.

VLM Airlines will expand its operations in April


VLM Airlines (Antwerp) will offer
new
flights
to
Rotterdam
(Netherlands) in April and
Hamburg
(Germany),
and
between Antwerp and Hamburg.
This
movement
continued
evolution of VLM Airlines as a
scheduled operator service built
on Antwerp-Geneva last month.
Passengers will be able to
choose between two return flights on the route Rotterdam-Hamburg
in every day of the week from Monday, April 13.

Flights twice a day every day of the week between Antwerp and
Hamburg will begin Monday, April 20. Both services will use VLM
Airlines fleet of Fokker 50.
