1.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or

challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In our film we used mise-en-scene such as the doorbell.

The door bell in our sequence built up suspense from
the start this is because it rang three times and when answered
nobody was at the door apart from threatening letters each time.
The doorbell was the prop that made the audience a bit more nervous
everytime it rang because nobody knew what was coming next
not even the characters!

This second screen shot is showing the use of special effects with editing.
In this particular moment in time in the sequence, the protagonist is
running in slow motion up the stairs to save her child. As the slow motion
occurs the audience grab a sense of how concerned and eager she is to
comfort her baby, and also at the same time a sense of helplessness and
wondering whether she will make it up the stairs in time to find her baby
in the same place she left her. We chose this technique to show how
desperate Lisa was and the importance of this scene.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Our production company name is VAM. It represents the starting letters of our
first names. I thought this name was perfect as it has a short and snappy feel to it.

A production company provides the audience with an initial capital of a film and also
responsible for the production of it.

The first names to appear on the film are the actors names, then the cameraman,
the director then the editor. As a group we felt that this was the perfect order to show the
important roles in the team.

A distributor is a company who circulates the final product.

Either the product will be distributed in cinemas such as Odeon or be aired on television
such as Channel 4.
The best distributor for our film would be E4 because it has a large number of our
target audience who already watch E4.

It is possible to receive funding for our film from the UK British Film Council or
The National Lottery.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for "The NewBorn" would be teenagers and young adults age from 15-25.
The certification for the film is a 15. We felt this was the right certificate because If
we lowered the certification, some younger teens/children could be affected by
certain parts of the film or maybe could not understand the codes and conventions
of thrillers and then completely misinterpret the film.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

The way we addressed our audience was through the storyline of our film.
The actors in our film was one of the main ways we attracted our audience.
Characteristics such as the actors age and sex, i.e Female and Age 22 had
a huge impact on the target audience.
People around the same age and sex seem to relate to the thriller more than
others. For example young people under the age of 15 may find it difficult or uninterested
in a psychological thriller with twists and enigmas, this may be because they are too
young to understand what is happening in the film.
Teenagers in particular, have interests in thrills and excitement and I thought that
the storyline would also intrigue teenagers and young adults as it includes these thrills
and enigmas.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?

Firstly I learnt how to use filming equipment such as the tripod and the camera, during the
preliminary task. Our group repeated the task many times and became familiar with the
equipment as we started filming.
The technologies used whilst editing, was Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack Pro. Final Cut Pro
included the deck used to upload our video/tape onto Final Cut Pro enabling us to edit our
two minute sequence. I found this very efficient as we could always go back to our thriller
to edit or view it because it was saved on the pc.

I also learnt how to operate and control the camera i.e holding the camera steady.
The tripod was a great help as it ensured that our shots/angle were level and consistent.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?

Using the 180 degree rule in the preliminary was

compulsory and also during our filming.
The 180 degree rule is in place so the film can have
continuity and not confuse the audience in any way.

We used a low angle shot looking down at Lisa

from the stairs to show that she was vulnerable.
Though we did not use this in the preliminary task
we still decided to try the low angle shot in our film,
I believe we used it quite effectively,
however if not we would of taken the shot out.
