As a group, we decided to do a drama as we felt we really
wanted to move our audience - emotionally. As a group, we felt it would be a nice change and a good challenge as we had never created a drama piece, the cameraman and director will work well closely and also, I put my trust in the fact that the editor will bring to the screen something I visualise. A drama will be extremely hard to pull off, however if we do pull it off, it will be extremely rewarding. A drama is a film genre which revolves mainly around the development of realistic characters in which the audience can relate to; there are many 'dramatic themes', this may consist of alcoholism, drug abuse/addiction, infidelity, poverty etc. Drama is arguably one of the broadest movie genres as it has a variety of subgenres, for instance, romantic dramas, crime, courtroom drama etc. Usually, a character is in a conflict at a crucial time in lives, these crucial times often involve families - these usually have the ability to gain empathy from the audience and touch upon the deepest emotions of 'normal people' as perhaps they feel they can relate to the character. The History of Drama in all modern theatre arts are still based on innovations introduced by Greeks thousands of years ago; so, Greeks were one of the first to create the first dramas - in theatres - which were where dramas had initially started up. Many different theories suggest that the first dramatic stories were most likely told by primitive tribes according to education-portal which is an online site - this site also suggests that no one actually knows when people began acting out plays - which is where dramas emerged from; whilst we are unaware of where and how it all began - most know that it the Greek embraced theatre as a means to worship their mythical Gods. In the 1800's in Germany began Romanticism which influenced the content of scrip its written for the stage - the typical romantic film focused on a hero fighting for 'what is right' - the most popular was the melodrama - a play in which the hero always succeeds.
Our sub-genre would be melodrama, which uses plots that appeal
to the heightened emotions of the audience. Melodramatic plots often deal with crises of human emotion, failed romance or friendship, tragedy, illness or emotional and physical hardship. Other subgenres of drama would be:
