IfyouarerunningSAPforyourbusiness,soonyouwillbemakingsome
fundamentaldecisionsforthefutureofyourbusinessapplicationportfolio.The
digitalworldisevolvingatablisteringpaceandtheneedforthetechnologyfor
businessgrowthisbecominganessentialpartofthebusinesssuccess.Especially
forsomebusinesses,thereisnootheroptionthanusingthelatesttechnology
availabletosurviveandstaycompetitive.
SAPannouncedanewdigitalstrategyandanewbusinesssuiteinearly2015
mainlyrunningonSAPHANAplatformwhichtheyclaimittobethebiggest
innovationsinceSAPR/3.Thiswasnottheonlyannouncementtocompletethe
partsintheSAPsdigitalstrategyjigsaw,therewerefewotheracquisitions
earlierhelpingtocompletethepuzzle.SuccessFactor,Ariba,Concur,Hybris,
BusinessObjects.
Themilliondollarquestionhereis,howareyougoingtoshapeupyourstrategy
anduseallorsomeofthosenewtechnologyproductsinyourITlandscape
withoutdisruptingyourbusiness.

S/4HANAandNewUserInterface
SAPfrontendhasalwaysbeencriticizedbyusersasbeingverytechnicaland
unfriendly.SAPS/4HANAischangingtheuserinterfaceusingtheFioriUX
technology.ItwilltakesometimeforSAPtocompletethedevelopmentfor
commonlyusedscenarios,butitisaverygoodstart.S/4SimpleFinancewas
introducedtostartofwithanditlooksgood.Itisnotonlyincludingdaily
businesstransactionsbutalsoinstantinsightinFinance.Thereisstillalongway
togoforSAPforallotherscenarios.

bespokezdevelopments.SAPisofferinganintegrationplatformonUI5for
customdevelopmentsbutitmaytakesometime.Alsobeforeyoustartdoingall,
youmusthavebeenupgradedtoSAPHANAdatabaseifyouarealreadyon
anyDB.Thatmaybesomethingyouneedtocheckfromtheinvestmentand
landscapepointofview.SAPannouncedthatthesupportanddevelopmentfor
theexistingSAPBusinessSuite(ERPandothers)willcontinueatleastuntil
2025butdoingnothinguntil2025inthiseverchangingtechnology
environmentisatoughcall.Youmayneedtoadaptyourselfatsomepoint
unlessyouchoosetodeployanothervendorsportfolio.
IhavebeenworkingwithSAPsince1995andbeeninvolvedinmanyendtoend
SAPprojects.Myexperienceistellingmethatinordertomakethemostfroma
businesssystem,youneedtorefreshthewholesysteminevery57years.Itruly
meanareimplementationwithafreshstart.Thereasonbehindisobvious.We
allknowthatthefirstyearaftertheimplementationisthecoolingperiodand
peoplewillstartwarmingupwiththesystem,afterthecoolingperiod,systems
starttogetbusyandbusywithtoomanydataandreportanddevelopment.After
sometime,thosestuffbecomeunmanageableandunnecessaryinsomecases.A
newprojectsisalwaysabigchanceforyourbusinesstoredefineeverything
basedonthepastlessonslearned.Puttingitintocontext,ifyouareconsidering
usingS/4HANA,ratherthanmigratingyouroldlegacyimplementation,do
startfromthescratchandstartanewprojectasagreenfieldSAPS/4HANA

ConnectedBusinessScenariosInmypastSAPexperience,Ialways
workedwithbigcompaniestryingtointegratetheirbusinesswithother
