Food Outreach, Inc., St. Louis, MO. Founded in 1988, it is the only organization in metro St. Louis with a mission to
provide nutritional support and enhance the quality of life of men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS or cancer.
Support includes nutritional counseling, frozen prepared meals, groceries, liquid nutritional supplements, congregate
meals, and meal home delivery.
Maritz Research, Inc., St. Louis, MO. (a company of Maritz, Inc.) One of the worlds largest marketing research firms
specializing in large-scale, custom-designed market research studies primarily in the automotive, hospitality,
information technology, and telecom industries. Part of Maritz, Inc., which is consistently labeled as one of the areas
150 Largest Privately Held Companies by the St. Louis Business Journal.
Nonprofit and Account Management
As Executive Director of Food Outreach, Inc., was responsible for all operations, which serve 2,100 clients
with more than 560,000 meals annually. The budget more than doubled as the number of clients served tripled,
while never implementing a waiting list

During the past eight years, Foundation and Corporate support increased 300% and 240% respectively.
Identified six new foundations in 2014 alone

Increased Individual major gifts by 60% from 2009 through 2014, as donor base increased by 750 individuals

In 2014, developed and implemented a collaborative program with Visiting Nurse Associaton of St. Louis,
called Life Link. The program is unduplicated across the country, where nurses travel with a Van Driver as they
deliver meals to homebound clients. Nurses do screenings for medical conditions. Secured initial and
subsequent funding to expand the program timeline and reach

From 2004 through 2005, replaced $358,000 in lost HIV/AIDS federal funding, as Food Outreach enrolled
350 clients into its programs

Secured funding for a Meal Delivery Program for clients living in rural Missouri, and funding for a food center in
Granite City, Illinois. As a result, service area covered a radius of 75 miles from the midtown St. Louis facility

In partnership with the Board, successfully completed the first three-year strategic plan within two years of its
approval. Developed the second and third strategic plans with a main focus of expanding into cancer services
and increasing agency capacity respectively. Cancer program started in 2006, with an excess of income over
expenses since its inception

Conducted in-depth interviews with leaders of agencies in HIV/AIDS or cancer service delivery, along with
volunteers and clients alike. Analysis of findings identified key action steps for all three strategic plans

While at Maritz Research, Inc., designed, initiated and supervised marketing research projects for
Anheuser-Busch (now AB/InBev), Caterpillar, John Deere, Walt Disney World, among others. Created
sampling plans and developed survey instruments specific to companies and industries. Presented results to
all levels of management. Anheuser-Busch continues to use research project for compensation plans for their
wholesalers

Increased gross profit of Caterpillar customer and dealer satisfaction research programs by $200,000 within
first year of becoming the Director of the Qualitative Research Department

As the Food Outreach Executive Director, developed ongoing relationships with new and existing supporters.
In addition, conducted focus groups with different types of donors. Findings were instrumental in creating
actionable resource development plans

Conducted seminars for the Nonprofit Management Program at Washington University of St. Louis. Educated
foreign Health Ministers on how to start HIV/AIDS nutrition programs in their respective countries, through a
partnership with The World Affairs Council of St. Louis

Lobbied members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate in 2006 for $7,000,000 to implement a
Coalition for Chronic Illness Nutrition Programs. Since 2007, advocated for the Ryan White Care Act
(federally funded program for HIV/AIDS service delivery)

As a result of advocacy efforts, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) recommended funding
HIV/AIDS meal programs to complement Medical Nutrition Counseling deemed a core medical service

Researched and wrote various successful grants totaling $950,000 from 2010 through 2014. Consistently
surpassed Foundation and Corporate giving goals

Instructed Wells Fargo Advisors Branch Managers from across the country on how to implement philanthropic
programs in their respective markets

Pitched stories related to HIV/AIDS, cancer, health or hunger to local and national media (TV, radio, and print).
Appeared on numerous local broadcasts as the Food Outreach representative

Participated in panel discussions on social networking and how to engage the next generation of donors

Negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding with Schnucks Specialty Pharmacy to have physical space in the
Food Outreach lobby. Pharmacists donate consultative services valued at $75,000 each year

Was the main editor for a publication of the Association of Nutrition Services Agencies (ANSA) entitled,
New Horizons: Expanding Missions to Build Stronger Futures (published in 2010)

While at Maritz Research, Inc., created action-oriented qualitative and quantitative research deliverables that
were nationally distributed, based on primary research analysis

Administration
At Food Outreach, prepared and justified budgets. Analyzed costs and proactively identified budget variances

Led a staff of 13 and coordinated discussions and activities of an Advisory Council of 20 clients

Implemented volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition programs resulting in a 40% increase in
volunteers from 2006 through 2014 (600 total volunteers to date)

Revamped employee performance evaluation process to synchronize with work objectives and agency
strategic initiatives. Evaluations were actionable and allowed for routine follow up throughout the year

While at Maritz Research, Inc., developed and led a group of 30 qualitative research moderators located
throughout the country. Supervised, motivated, and conducted research training. Qualitative Research
Department became a profit center during my tenure

Evaluated team of moderators with constructive feedback regarding moderating skills and research
deliverables. Ensured the quality and validity of all project reporting

Reduced research costs by 35% by standardizing methodologies. Created a list of preferred suppliers, which

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Elected to the National Board of the Association of Nutrition Services Agencies (ANSA) for 12 years.
ANSA was established for the advocacy of nutritional needs of people living with life threatening diseases.
