FOREWORD

The National Education Blueprint (PPPM) 2013-2025 aims at producing

students with bilingual proficiency. As stated by the Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri
Muhyiddin bin Yassin, English will be made a mandatory passing subject for all
students sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) from 2016.
To address this, Johore State Education Department (JPNJ) has taken the lead
to come up with Everyone Can Pass (ECP) Module to help improve the students
language acquisition level.
In view of this, the teachers need to ensure that all the students will be able to
pass their English Language Papers and secure an SPM certificate. Hence, the effort
to produce this ECP module by JPNJ and the Engjlish Language Teachers from
Segamat District is praiseworthy.
To meet this demand, the ECP module aims to provide supplementary
resources for the teachers to help their students. I sincerely hope that teachers will use
this module to constantly guide the students to achieve the target to pass in the
subject.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Johore Department
Language Unit and the ECP module writers for all their effort in producing this module.

Tuan Haji Aminuddin bin Adam

Johor State Education Director

FOREWORD

English Language has been announced as a must pass subject in the SPM
examination by the year 2016, thus making it a critical subject for all candidates facing
the examination. Therefore, much needs to be done in order to help these candidates,
especially those with a weaker grasp of the language, to maintain and further improve
the percentage of overall passes in Johore.
The weak students face difficulties, particularly in the areas of grammar and
writing. Although it cannot be denied that the teachers are trying their best to help the
students improve themselves, there is still room for more.
Hence, this module has been specially designed to assist the SPM students in
the areas of grammar and writing, as well as targetting information transfer,
comprehension and summary as part of the package. As the adage goes, Practice
makes perfect. So, with this in mind, it is hoped that the extra practice provided by the
module will benefit the students and they would be able to perform well in the SPM
examination.
I take this opportunity to thank the teachers involved in producing this module.
They have worked tirelessly and sacrificed their time and energy to get the module
ready for the students. Thus, I sincerely hope the students will appreciate all that these
teachers have done for them and make good use of this module to improve
themselves.

Last but not least, I would also like to thank the Segamat District English
Language Officers for the unending co-operation given by them. With their continued
support, I am sure that our English Language results will improve.

GUIDELINES FOR TEACHERS

This Everyone Can Pass (ECP) Module is prepared to cater for low language
proficiency students. Most of the components presented in the module are tested in the
SPM English Language 1119 papers with some stress on grammar to help in writing.
The components presented are:

Error Identification

Information Transfer

Reading Comprehension and Summary

Directed Writing

Continuous Writing

The exercises given are graded to help students to progress gradually through
repeated practice.
This module is a guide for teachers to develop their own teaching materials
based on their students ability. As further practice, teachers can use past-year
examination questions to enrich the writing techniques of their students.
It is hoped that with constant guidance and practice, all students taking the
SPM English Language 1119 paper will be able to pass.
We believe this ECP module is a beneficial supplementary resource to
complement the English Language teaching in the classroom. It is our sincere hope
that teachers will make full use of the module and adapt where necessary.
