Jack Canfields 10 Keys to

Success
1. You are responsible for your
happiness
Most people think that the path to finding happiness and success is
influenced by the external world and that you are never fully in control of
how your future turns out. Canfield breaks this notion down by saying that
you are 100% responsible for your failure or success.
People who tend to blame everyone around them for their failings are often
those who find it hard to find real success in life.

2. Know your purpose

Everyone has a purpose. The secret is finding that purpose, knowing it with
clarity, and pursuing it with gusto.
According to Canfield, the true measure of success is knowing your
purpose and spending your life achieving that purpose. It is true that we
can excel in different areas in life but if these areas are not where the
purpose lies, then true happiness will be elusive because this is not the
meaning of true success.

3. Decide on what you want

Finding your purpose is one step, but deciding to steer your life in that
direction can be a major step for most people. People tend to prefer the
place where they are comfortable. The decision to leap and make that
drastic career change can be scary. However, wasting your life on careers
that do not make you happy will only leave you drained and disillusioned
and nowhere near to accomplishing your lifes purpose.

4. Believe that anything is possible

The mind can be a very powerful tool for drawing positive energy into your
direction. Let go of doubts and start believing that you can do whatever it is
you set out to do.
Keep a positive attitude and the universe will listen.

5. Believe that the world is a good

place
A crippling fear of failure, strong competitors, and ridicule in the event of
failure can turn even the most confident entrepreneur into a paranoid
wreck. Start believing that the world is good, that not everyone is just dying
to see you fail.
Turn paranoia on its head and you will see that you become more kind,
more open to help and more open to positive energy coming your way as
well.

6. Be flexible
Problems will clutter the road to success. The most successful people today
faced problems head on and were flexible enough to bend and change
when this was needed.

7. Be persistent
Jack Canfield persisted despite the hundred publishers who thought that
his book was no good. Rejections may number in the hundreds but it only
takes one positive step to take a new idea or a passion to greater heights.
According to Jack, the longer you hang in there, the greater the chances of
something positive happening for you.

8. Create and focus on a goal

Creating a goal for yourself creates a measuring stick which you can use to
judge your actions and progress.
This helps you turn your dreams into reality.

9. Take the first step

A first step is all that it takes to get started. Many people have lofty dreams
and passions but these will remain ideas without action. Taking the first
step is the difference between actually pursuing your passion and just
dreaming about it.

10. Take risks

Every effort to pursue something new and novel comes with risks. It will be
uncomfortable especially if its a complete turn-around from the life you are
used to. But if you truly believe that this is where your passion lies and you
are willing to work towards it, the risks and uncertainty will eventually be
worth it.

1. Value Quality over Quantity

Your publicist will give you a social calendar thats jammed with events,
insisting that you need to be at all of them. This is false. Separate the
need to attends from the nice to attends, and this will serve you better in
the long run. Chasing the second tier of events will exhaust you and
overexpose you, and youll burn out faster than yesterdays news.

2. Dont Overtly Parrot

Most of the management books tell you to parrot the person youre trying to
impress, suggesting that you nod when she nods, touch your left nostril
when she touches her left nostril, and then if she says, I love Lady Gaga!
you say, Oh my God, I love Lady Gaga too!!!! The world does not need
more parroting, and its okay to not love Lady Gaga.

3. Use Mints
If, at any point in the day, your mouth has been open and if youve
consumed food, chances are that your breath stinks. Do yourself a favor
and freshen up your face.

4. Dont Name-Drop
Its transparent and obnoxious. When I met George Lucas, even though at
heart I was a starstruck fan boy, I would never say, I saw Harrison Ford
last week! or I just played golf with Steven Spielberg! Lame. If you do
want to slip in a name, its better to use a name thats more mundane, more
grounded, like the celebritys lawyer or dentist that you might happen to
know.

5. Never Ask for a Card

You can (and should) give out your business card, but never ask for one in
return. If people want to give you a card, theyll give you their god-damn
card.

6. Respect the Handler

The notable might have a handler (assistant, publicist, manager, associate)
standing with him or her at the party. When you meet the notable, also
introduce yourself to the sidekick, and when you give the notable a card,
give the sidekick a card too. Treat handlers with respect. Not only is this the
right thing to do, but this could be the hand of the kingand theyll later
whisper into the kings ear.

7. Drink Water
This is work, its not a party.

8. Dont Try to Speak to Everyone

When Barry Sanders scored a touchdown, he would casually toss the
football back to the ref, shrugging, and living by the credo Act like youve
been there before. Just chill out. Dont try to meet every celebrity and
shake every hand. If you are conducting and managing your personal
brand well, part of your brand will be to spend more time in this mildly toxic
environment. Youll be at these events again in the future, so let things
happen more organically.

9. Its Not About Being a Closer

Lower your expectations about imagining that you may magically seal any
deals. These events arent the right forum for giving someone the hard sell,
for overt pitching, or to become someones best friend.

10. Know That Theyre Working

Too
Even famous people dont like getting dressed up and making a fuss about
how they look. Even if they have a giant dick or won the Most Beautiful
Woman in the World award, the chances are that they still had anxiety
about getting dressed up and going to this event. Its work for them too.
Take comfort in this.

Motivation is the ultimate force that causes you to take action. Not only
does it initiate and drive goal-oriented behaviour, but it also sustains it. The
actions can be as simple as eating healthy, or as complex as winning a
Nobel Prize; every action has a certain motivation behind it. The driving
forces behind human motivation can be biological, emotional, social, or
personal in nature.

A lot of research has been carried out to explainmotivation, and many

researchers have come up with a number of theories to explain it. While
every theory tries to explain the driving forces behind motivation within a
limited scope, all of them have certain common elements.
Abraham Maslows hierarchy of needs is perhaps the most famous
theory which explains motivational needs at different levels. Other theories
speculate that motivation is caused due to internal instincts, to quell internal
tension, to satisfy biological urges, or to get incentivized.

Here are the 7 driving forces behind

human motivation
1. Self-actualization
Everyone will try to accomplish what they can, as long as they feel that they
have the capacity to do it. Some individuals may have the desire to be a
wealthy businessman, while others may want be a successful musician or
an athlete.
Self-actualizing needs are a great motivational tool for people to do what
they desire. However, for you to realize your full potential, it helps to have
mastered all the other needs detailed below.

2. Self-protection

Once the physiological needs have been met, an individual craves for
safety and security; this is borne out of a desire for self-protection. While
early humans had a completely different idea of staying protected; today,
security needs can include safe neighbourhood, access to healthcare,
steady employment, and protection from environmental forces. Fulfilling
these needs can be a great motivation factor.

3. Love and Belonging

Once an individual has satisfied both their physical and self-protection
needs, they crave for social needs; this can be love, affection, and
belonging. Humans are social animals, and they are motivated to form
meaningful relationships such as friendships, family relations, romantic
attachments, and other interpersonal needs that give you a sense of
belonging. This is one of the main reasons why humans form social
communities, whether it is a family, a friend group, religion, or any other
interest group.
The need to be accepted and belong to a social group is a strong driving
factor behind motivation.

4. Status/Esteem
Every human has a need to command respect and status in society; this
also includes self-esteem. It is an important driving factor behind what
people do, as they want to feel valued and respected by others. Social
recognition, personal worth, and other accomplishments are some of the
factors behind driving you to fulfil your self-esteem needs.

A low self-esteem or an inferiority complex can also drive one to stay away
from the things they want to do; it is a form of negative motivation. However,
just being accepted by others isnt enough; one has to accept his or her
worth internally to have a high self-esteem.

5. Mate Acquisition
One of the main driving factors behind human behaviour, or any other
animal behaviour for that matter, is the need to satisfy ones sexual urges.
While sex can be classified under physiological needs, a mate is someone
who you want to have an offspring with; one who will help you take your
genes forward to the next generation.
A male will try everything in his power to attract a female, while a female
would do the same to attract a suitable male. This is one of the main driving
factors behind the cosmetics industry, driving the consumers motivation to
purchase through the need of a higher status and esteem.

6. Mate Retention
While it is very easy to attract a mate, it is very hard to retain him or her. We
present ourselves as an ideal person for our partner to realize that they are
worth staying with. In earlier times, a male was expected to provide for his
family, while a female used to take care of the family at home. However, this
doesnt apply for all partners in this current age, nowadays you can even
expect to see a role-reversal. Nevertheless, mate retention is still one of the
driving factors behind human motivation.

7. Physiological Needs
Physiological needs are the most basic needs that are extremely vital for
human survival. These include food, water, air, shelter and sleep. As long
as a human hasnt satisfied their most needs, they wont be motivated
enough to seek the others. Hence, these basic needs are the most
crucial driving forces behind human motivation.

Human motivation is a very complex thing, and

the driving forces behind it can be quite hard to
discern. However, if you learn about the link
between the different needs and the urge to
satisfy them, then you can understand the main
driving factors behind human motivation.

In an ideal world every man, woman and child would be programmed for
Success, the truth of the matter is that Success is a lot harder than you
think. Success takes alot of Passion, Drive, Focus, Risk Taking etc to get
there and alot of people are just not up for that kind of work.
These are 10 of the most common reasons people end up failing, not just in
business, but what they want to be successful at in life also. Read on and
see how you can improve on your road to Success.

1. Because You Procrastinate- Yes this is one of the more common

reasons for most people to never excel in fulfilling their chosen field or
business. Instead of taking advantage of every waking moment you make
excuses on why you can put it off until tomorrow or put the grunt work off
until later, which is usually the most important of your daily task. Many will
complain about why theyre not successful, but continue to put unimportant
events ahead of what really should be a priority to anyone trying to better
their situation or build a successful business and the answer is right in front
of you and the sad thing is most know it, but fail to do anything about it.
2. Because You Blame What You Lack as your Reasons for
Failure- Nine times out of ten if you ask any person or entrepreneur why
they have failed in finishing or accomplishing a goal their sentence will
begin with Because I dont. Depending on what field of business theyre
in many of us could guess how that sentence will end. The sad reality is
that most of us lack one thing or another and many of our predecessors
have overcome many obstacles and proven time and time again that where
you live, your financial status, your race, location, height, and/or belief has
no take on whether or not you will be successful and it is ultimately up to
you.
3. Because your idea isnt as Brilliant and Unique as you think- I know
this doesnt come as a a suprise to most of you especially if you have ever
started a business or had an idea that you thought was just revolutionary or
unique with no competition, but once you do a little research or decide to
launch you see ten other businesses doing the same thing. As Im sure you
have heard this before, but it is obvious most need to hear it again a
successful business begins with a great execution and a failure is well
lack there of. Most ideas have been thought of or tried and tested, but many
failed because of their execution and how it was brought about. There are
many reasons why the same businesses fail while others succeed timing

has a lot to do with it, capital, the person or entrepreneur, knowledge on the
subject and much more.

4. Because some of your Best Ideas are just Memory or Were Never
Brought to Life- I definitely think this is one of the biggest reasons most
are never successful. Many of our best ideas that would have spread virally
or been a necessity in life were never brought past the brainstorming
process or seemed like one of them unobtainable goals, because most of
the time the brilliant ideas are the hardest to accomplish or will have you
facing the most obstacles to see them come to life. I read an article about
how almost everyday people think of at least two million dollar ideas on
their way to work during a 5day workweek, but over 90% never put any of
them into action pass the the thought phase and without reasonable doubt I
agree.

5. Because youre not patient- Many of us fall into this category and I was
once a very impatient person (still am at times) when it came to seeing
results with a new venture or goal I wanted to attain. I think the above title is
why many of us fall victim to all of these get rich quick schemes we see in
our email inbox everyday or on late night TV infomercials. In reality there is
no quick-legal ways to get rich or becoming successful anything that is
worth attaining will take time to acquire. Many of us abandon a business
before we give it time to get over the first years slump or automatically mark
it as a failure before it has time to reach its full potential.

6. Because there is always somebody working harder than you- This

article goes back to the first reason on procrastinating and reinforces that
youre not taking advantage of every waking moment. Every moment you

sleep or take off for a break or make time for anything other than the goal
you want to accomplish or the business you want to be number one there is
always another team of people or a person working toward the same goal. I
think every time you decide to tackle an objective or start a new business
that you want to succeed in that you should keep in mindthere is always
be somebody putting in harder work and longer hours than you. Remember
the number one spot or your accomplished goals wouldnt feel so good if
you were the only one going for it, because it wouldnt be worth attaining.

7. Because you wait on Luck or Opportunity (Meal Ticket) to be given

to us- In most instances opportunity is not given to you it is created and
youre lucky if you are prepared. That is why it is important to always be
prepared for the unthinkable, because opportunities usually arise when you
least expect it and that is why in most cases were not prepared and that is
what we call bad luck. You cant wait fo rANYTHING to come to you or for
somebody to hand it to you. If you want financing for your business go out
and get it, if you want to relocate to another city go do it, if you want to be a
millionaire before 25 get to work today not tomorrow anything is attainable
with hard work and being persistent no matter how small or large the
obstacles to success may seem.

8. Because the odds are against you- In most cases people want to be
successful from starting a business whether it is online or offline. The reality
is over 50% of small businesses fail within the first five years and out of all
businesses started 85% fail within the first five years as you can see the
odds are not in your favor to succeed. Many people who have weight loss
goals will most likely not meet them considering that more than 65% of the
United States population is either overweight or obese and it was up more
than 16% from the year before. Your chances of being a millionaire are not

as bad when compared to the other odds, because the average American
has a 1 in 13 chance of becoming a millionaire and more than 741,666
become new millionaires every month. Will you be next months
millionaire??

9. Because life is too short- This reason basically takes into mind all of
the above reasons for reaching success, tried and failed and taking time for
granted for when opportunity is presented to you. You should take
advantage of every SOUND opportunity that is presented to you, make use
of every free second you have available, read up on any topic relevant to
any goals you want to accomplish, make no excuses for tasks or goals not
completed, and realise that you have nobody to blame, but yourself for any
failures that you have or goals that you didnt accomplish within your
lifetime.

10. Because you will NOT make a change today- Even though this
article stated in the beginning that you will never be successful unless you
make a change today most of us will read it in its entirety and actually
agree with its content, but will still go back to our same habits of
procrastinating, blaming what we lack, putting together half-thought out
ideas with poor execution, never bringing our greatest ideas pass the
brainstorming process, being impatient and not persistent, letting someone
work harder than you for that number one spot, waiting on our meal ticket,
still understanding the odds are against you, but not working harder to
overcome them, not taking advantage of all our time on this earth to see
our dreams and goals manifest into something greater than we could ever
imagine.

It is still in your hands whether or not you will become successful and
defeat these odds. Just dont become a victim to one of these common
mistakes and reasons for not being successful within your lifetime.
