WHY ISO 50001

1. Using energy efficiently helps organizations save money as well as
helping to conserve resources and tackle climate change. ISO 50001
supports organizations in all sectors to use energy more efficiently, through
the development of an energy management system (EnMS).
2. ISO 50001:2011 provides a framework of requirements for organizations
to:
A. Develop a policy for more efficient use of energy
B. Fix targets and objectives to meet the policy
C. Use data to better understand and make decisions about energy use
D. Measure the results
E. Review how well the policy works, and
F. Continually improve energy management.
3. As one of the tool to achieved higher level of PROPER from Ministry of
Environment.
4. To satisfy Indonesian government regulation PP No. 70/2009 and
PERMEN ESDM No. 14/2012

CHAIN OF CUSTODY
CB has to control the elements of chain of custody:
Farms (3% or 5% of delivering farms)
Traders (first gathering point), suppliers, warehouses, conversion
units (oil mills, refineries)
All kinds of biomass (vegetable oils, grain, maize, soy, rape etc.)
Each element has to be member of 1 certification system at least
Only the last interface (refinery mostly) generates the proof of
sustainability

Requirements of Sustainability

Biomass does not come from areas, which had after 1.1.2008 the
following status:
Forest land
Areas designated by law or by the relevant competent authority
to serve the purpose of nature protection
Grassland with high biological diversity
Areas with high stocks of carbon
Products from Sustainable agriculture (Cross compliance in EU or
Documentation of further sustainable production(soil, water, air, food
prices, land use rights) in other countries) or from bio waste
Evidence of traceability and mass balance
GHG savings Minimum of 35%(2017: 50%; 2018: 60%)
