The subnet mask is used to divide the PCs into different sub networks, and this can
make the net communication more secure and efficient. The subnet mask determines
which part of the IP address represents a network address and which part represents a
node address.
Chapter 5 - 3
2. All the network cards the PC has will show up in the network connection window.
Right click the one you want to set and choose Properties.
4. Set the IP address and Subnet Mask accordingly and click OK.
Chapter 5 - 4
5. Connect the PC with the controller using a TK212 cable connected to a serial port
on the PC and to the tool port (COM4) on the AC 800M controller.
6. Choose the COM port on the PC by clicking on Settings
Chapter 5 - 5
7. Press Connect
The IPConfig status bar will change from Not Connected to Connecting.
8. Press and hold (more than 3 seconds) the Init button on the controller. Release the
init button when the Run LED starts to blink.
After the system-reset button has been pushed it takes approximately 10s before
IPConfig detects the system reset and the status bar changes to System reset
detected waiting for controller start-up.
If the connection fails, a message box will indicate Connect failed, Time-Out. The
reason may be the following:
- The serial cable is not connected correctly.
- The time elapsed between clicking the Connect button and the
system reset of the controller was too long.
9. When IPConfig is connected the status bar will change to Connected.
10. To set the subnet mask, enter the advanced mode by selecting Settings >
Advanced mode in the menu.
Chapter 5 - 6
11. To modify the IP address in the controller, press Set IP and the text boxes will
show the current controller IP address settings.
When the new IP address has been stored successfully the status bar will show
Controller IP configuration updated.
NOTE!
Ethernet addresses are kept in the flash memory. Always close IPConfig when you are
done with it (Exit button), because IPConfig uses the tool port (Com4) and the rest of
the CPUs channels will be locked.
The RCU Link cable has a connector, which has a label called upper. This
connector is now inserted in the upper CPU.
Chapter 5 - 7
If a redundant Ethernet is going to be used, set up the IP address for the Backup
CPU by selecting Ethernet 2 in the Set Backup IP addresses window. Usually
select Obtain an IP address by using default rule. Then press Store Interface
Settings again.
5. Switch on the power on the backup CPU.
There is no need to set IP address(es) for the backup CPU in Control Builder. The IP
address of the backup CPU CN1 and CN2 ports will only be used for internal
communication between the primary and backup CPUs. When the backup CPU takes
over, it also takes over the primary IP address that is defined in Control Builder. Other
units on the control network will never notice the switchover.
Chapter 5 - 8
Type in ipconfig and press the Enter button. The computers IP address settings
show up in the DOS window.
Chapter 5 - 9
Checking the network connection with an AC 800M controller is the same as with a
computer. Just ping the AC 800M controllers IP address and review the outcome.

4. Press and hold (more than 3 seconds) the Init button on the controller. Release the

Chapter 5 - 16
5. The message System Reset detected will be displayed in the bottom of the window
and shortly afterwards the available firmware revisions are displayed. Select the
correct firmware version and click on Upgrade to start the transfer.
6. At this point the power must not be disturbed until the transfer is complete.
Chapter 5 - 17
7. When complete, press the Init button to restart the controller and click on OK
to close the window.
