In daily life the term personality is very freely used by people with different meanings.

Some
people refer to the physical appearance like height, weight, colour, body built, dress, voice,
etc. Some other people refer to intellectual qualities like intelligence, activeness, way of
speech, thinking and reasoning abilities. It is also referred to social characteristics like
sociability, generosity, kindness. On the basis of these characteristics they judge people as
strong or weak personalities, good and bad personalities.
Personality can be coarsely defined as an individual's idiosyncratic configuration of
psychological traits influenced by their principles, predilections, cognitive abilities, and
sociocultural status.
Myers-Brigs Type Indicator (MBTI) us used to assess human personality. The MBTI, developed
by Isabel Myers and Katharine Cook Briggs, is based on theories from pioneering psychologist,
Carl Jung. It is considered one of the most widely used global instruments The MBTI classifies
personality through the juxtaposition of disparate personality dimensions. Individuals
encompass the trait of Extraversion or Introversion, Sensing or Intuition, Thinking or Feelings,
and Judging or Perceiving
Traits in the five-factor model include: Extraversion, Anxiety, Receptivity, Accommodation, and
Self-Control. Costa and McCrae developed the final model of personality, coined the Big Five
Theory. The Big Five model is used extensively in clinical and research applications. This
model often utilizes the NEO-Personality Inventory (NEO-PR) to measure the presence or
absence of five core traits which interact to form human personality. Many other test batteries
are available to measure the Big Five traits. Core traits include Neurtocism, Extraversion,
Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness
Each model and corresponding assessment tool ultimately establishes the presence or
absence of individual personality traits. However, it is necessary to ponder variables which
affect the presence or absence of such traits in an individual's personality.
By taking the three personality tests I discovered some interesting things about myself. First,
was the Big Five Dimension of Personality test where I scored relatively high in the dimensions
of extraversion, agreeableness, and emotional stability. Whereas, I posted average scores in
the dimensions of openness and conscientiousness. According to the test, a high score on
conscientiousness and emotional stability were associated with high performance across all
occupational groups and all measures of performance. Since I scored high in extraversion I
would most likely be successful in jobs that require interaction with many other people during
the day.Personally, I have to disagree with some of the predictions made by these tests. Some
of the predictions made by these tests I feel are not accurate. An example would be that I
scored high in the extravert section, but I do not feel like I would enjoy an interactive job with
many people.
Personality is defined as pattern of collective character, behavioral, temperamental,
emotional, and mental traits of a person
The Big-Five Personality Test is a test of human characteristics. It rates you on different
categories, scores you on them, and then explains your results on each one. You interpret
your score using percentiles averaged against other people who have taken the test on-line.
Each category that you are rated on in the test is different, there are five of them, and they
are Openness to Experience/Intellect, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and
Neuroticism. Of course, the web site will explain each one of them in detail

Three of the characteristics in the test that I opted to discuss are, Conscientiousness,
Extraversion, and Agreeableness. The conscientiousness category was well rated. My score
was 89 percent, which means I am reliable, well organized, self-disciplined, and careful. Some
examples are, when I say that I plan to be somewhere at 12:00 p.m., I will be there at that
time. Another is that I do like things organized. I like items in their place where they are easy
to get to and easy to find. In Extraversion, I scored 79th percentile. Extraversion basically

means that I would be sociable, friendly, fun loving, and talkative. I tend to be Friendly at
times and everyone knows that I am a very talkative person. That statement is very true, I am
always going out with friends and talking to people. My score in this category was right on.

The last of three characteristics that I chose from is Agreeableness. I scored in the 69
percentile on this one. I believe this score is way off its mark I would have expected this score
to be higher. This was the only section of the test that was not accurate for me to a degree.
The higher scorers in this category are more likely to be good-natured, sympathetic, forgiving,
and courteous. I know that I am all of those. I am one of the most good-natured and forgiving
person anyone could meet. Possibly too much. Also, I may be too sympathetic at times as
well.

I was very skeptical after learning about the Meyers-Briggs test . Many employers use this test
as an pre-employment screening tool. The results of the test identified me as having an
extrovert, sensor, thinker, and judging personality.
The test revealed that I am a moderately expressed extrovert. As an extrovert I have a
tendency to rely on activity to keep myself busy. It is very hard to have long periods of
inactivity or being without interaction with people. An introvert would find these conditions
ideal. Being an extrovert has many advantages though. When in a group of people I am
naturally drawn to them and find it easy to stimulate conservation. Disadvantages of being an
extrovert include feeling lonely easily and having difficulty coping with long periods of
solitude.

The second part of the test suggests that I am a sensor personality. Sensor personalities like
to put learned skills to use. During work situations we also prefer to have an established way
of doing things. When doing a job, I must fully understand all details before performing any
tasks in order to do my best. Sensors are very detail oriented. Someone with an intuitive
personality is more likely to look at the grand scheme of things and to think outside the box. A
downside of being a sensor is that it is very hard for me to make a quick decision because I
need to know all details and what may result from my decision.
In the third component of the Meyers-Briggs test showed me to be a thinking type. Thinkers
tend to have a need to be treated fairly. Praise for a job well done is very important to a
thinker. When I receive praise, I work harder and have a better attitude about my job.
Through taking the Jung Typology Test, I have learned that I have an INTJ personality type.
This means that I lean toward the Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, and Judging end of the
personality scale. My research on the Internet taught me that my source of energy comes
mainly from the internal world. This matches my own perception of myself pretty well. I
learned that the Intuition characteristic means that I rely heavily on beliefs founded on
information received from my internal world. The thinking characteristic means my decisions
are based mainly on logic. Lastly, the judging characteristic means that my life is organized
and follows a strict plan. These characteristics also seem to match what I believe my
personality to be, in general.
INTJs are analytical problem-solvers, eager to improve systems and processes with their
innovative ideas. They have a talent for seeing possibilities for improvement, whether at
work, at home, or in themselves. Often intellectual, INTJs enjoy logical reasoning and complex
problem-solving. They approach life by analyzing the theory behind what they see, and are
typically focused inward, on their own thoughtful study of the world around them. INTJs are
drawn to logical systems and are much less comfortable with the unpredictable nature of
other people and their emotions. They are typically independent and selective about their
relationships, preferring to associate with people who they find intellectually stimulating

INTJs are perceptive about systems and strategy, and often understand the world as a chess
board to be navigated. They want to understand how systems work, and how events proceed:
the INTJ often has a unique ability to foresee logical outcomes. They enjoy applying
themselves to a project or idea in depth, and putting in concentrated effort to achieve their
goals.INTJs have a hunger for knowledge and strive to constantly increase their competence;
they are often perfectionists with extremely high standards of performance for themselves
and others. They tend to have a keen interest in self-improvement and are lifelong learners,
always looking to add to their base of information and awareness. Although INTJs arent
usually warm or particularly gregarious, they tend to have a self-assured manner with people
based on their own security in their intelligence. They relate their ideas with confidence, and
once they have arrived at a conclusion they fully expect others to see the wisdom in their
perceptions. They are typically perfectionists and appreciate an environment of intellectual
challenge. They enjoy discussing interesting ideas, and may get themselves into trouble
because of their take-no-prisoners attitude: if someones beliefs dont make logical sense, the
Mastermind typically has no qualms about pointing that out.
The information I found stated that INTJs have a self-confident nature. This is something I have
always believed to be true about myself, and consider it one of my best assets. Those with an
INTJ personality type, are also known to be both imaginative and reliable, an uncommon
combination. My imaginative nature is what I believe has helped me be successful at my
current job. I also take great pride in my reliability to my job, my family, and my friends. It is
also said that INTJ have the ability to recognize opportunities others might not recognize. This
is something that has always worked to my advantage, helping me be one step ahead of
others.
Generally, INTJs have successful careers in areas requiring intensive intellectual efforts,
presenting intellectual challenge, and creative approach. Due to the characteristics mentioned
above, successful INTJs are found in technological companies, particularly in research and
development, and also found among corporate lawyers, high- and mid-rank managers in
technology companies and financial institutions. The future career choice includes law,
business, management and entrepreneurship.
The Myers and Briggs Analysis is a series of questions that when answered are examined and
grouped together in order to determine the personalities of those taking this test. This
particular test can result in sixteen different outcomes or types of personalities, which is
determined by four different categories that judge if you are introverted or extroverted, use
your senses or your intuition, your choice to think or use your feelings, and finally if you are
judgmental or perceptive. These series of questions are designed to judge our personalities
and help us to determine which career pathways we will be most suited for based on our
personality traits and abilities to work well with others, which is important for our future
decisions.
The Myers and Briggs personality test is unlike many of the personality tests you will find
randomly online because it was designed to examine the ways in which you focus on the
world and make everyday decisions. After taking this test myself I have found out a few things
about myself that I did not really notice before.

John L Holland is a psychologist who devoted his professional life to researching issues related
to career choice and satisfaction. He developed a well-known theory, and designed several
assessments and supporting materials to assist people in making effective career choices.
Holland found that people needing help with career decisions can be supported by
understanding their resemblance to the following six ideal vocational personality types:
Realistic (R), Investigative (I), Artistic (A), Social (S), Enterprising (E), Conventional (C). Work
settings can also be categorized by their resemblance to six similar model work environments.
Because people search for environments that allow them to express their interests, skills,
attitudes and values, and take on interesting problems and agreeable roles, work

environments become populated by individuals with related occupational personality types.

According to Holland, if personality type matches the work environment, success and
satisfaction can improve. The idea is that birds of a feather, flock together, and that people
with the same personality type tend to enjoy working with each other. For example, Artistic
people enjoy working with other Artistic people. Additionally, people with the same
personality type tend to create a work environment that rewards thinking and behaving like
that type.
After going through the test, I found out that enterprising is the characteristic nearest to me.
According to Holland/s theory, those with enterprising characteristics likes to lead and
persuade people, and to sell things and ideas; generally avoids activities that require careful
observation and scientific, analytical thinking;
Is good at leading people and selling things or ideas;
Values success in politics, leadership, or business; and
Sees self as energetic, ambitious, and sociable.
