# ELECTRIC MOTOR

## An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy

into mechanical energy. In normal motoring mode, most electric motors operate
through the interaction between an electric motor's magnetic field and winding
currents to generate force within the motor . Electric motor can be found in
applications as diverse as industrial fans, blowers and pumps, machine tools,
household appliances, and compressor.
Electric motors may be classified by electric power source type, internal
construction, application, type of motion output, and so on. Electric motors can be
powered by direct current (DC) sources, such as from batteries and many more . DC
motors consists of a dc motors separately excited and dc motors self excited . Direct
Current Electric Motors can be a DC Generator or DC Electric Motors . DC
Generators is an electrical machine that converts mechanical energy into electrical
energy . A DC motors can be used as a generator or conversely . Electric motors can
be powered by alternating current (AC) sources, such as from the power grid,
inverters or generators . AC motors consists of a synchronous AC motors and
asynchronous AC motors . Three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors are widely
used in industrial drives because they are rugged, reliable and economical. Singlephase induction motors are used extensively for smaller loads, such as household
appliances like fans and pumps .
AC motors has two direction of rotation that is AC motors clockwise and
AC motors counter clock wise . Counter clock wise AC motors can be produced by
shifting one phase . So the electric motor is used to convert electrical energy into
mechanical energy , this change was made by converting electricity into magnetism
known as electro magnets , as we know that the poles of a magnet that will repel
namesake and poles are not namesake , attraction. Then we can get the movement if
we put a magnet on a rotatable shaft , and the other magnet in a fixed position .
