ICT Seminar
What is ICT?
The word ICT refers to information and
communication technology. In developing
world we have to follow IT anyhow to
achieve our success. It is not an easy task.
Technology plays a main part in this field.
ICT is one of the paths to creep into this
giant ocean. So it has been included into
current syllabus as a subject in order to
improve the ICT knowledge of students &
make them confident to stand in front of Gaining knowledge is the first step to wisdom.
the developing world with confident.
Sharing it is the first step to humanity.
So as UoM Leos, we thought of supporting
them as much as we can. Therefore we
arranged a seminar for students of Grade
10 of Piliyandala Vidyalaya with the
collaboration of Leo clubs of Piliyandala
& Polgasowita. About forty students were
participated to the event and it was ended as
a successful event on 1st of December. We
taught them how to write answers for the
questions in the paper that we distributed.
We conducted it with the hope of giving
helping hand to our future generation. We
received lot of positive comments which
motivated us to think of continuing the
project in future also.
In some corner of the life, you know
something than anyone else on earth. The
true measure of your knowledge is not
what you know, but how you share what
you know with others.

But after a while, a brief introduction and
leaflets were enough to start a conversation.
The people who passed by them, people who
were waiting for buses and people who were
selling goods were focused for this mission.
At the end of the day, Leos were able to cover
a large area. Since the awareness program
was conducted on a day near to the worlds
Aids day, it was a great opportunity to the
people to reminiscence the things which
were heard on 1st of December.

HIV/AIDS is a most hidden but post-hastily

spreading virus in Sri Lankan society. But
UoM Leos realized the value of discussing
about HIV/AIDS. On 3rd of December
2015, UOM Leos organized an AIDS
awareness program focusing the people of
Piliyandala area. To cover a large area, Leos
who gathered there, divided themselves into
small groups of two three members. At the

MADD

MARCH
AGAINST
DANGEROUS DRUGS

Dangerous drugs ruin ones personal

life, health as well as the well-being
of the society. So what is your opinion
about dangerous drugs? If you want
to know mine, Im totally against
it. Not only me most of the younger
generation are now against dangerous
drugs.
So for this Leo Day celebration,
Leo Multiple District 306 organized
MADD-2015 an awareness walk
under the theme March against
dangerous drugs. Nearly 27 clubs
from all the six districts in the multiple
306 jointly organized this event.
UoM Leos also joined the event as an
organizing club. MADD took place on
5th of December from 3p.m. onwards
from Galle Face to Henry Pediris
Grounds. The main objective of this
was to prevent people from using
addictive dangerous drugs by making
the society aware about the harmful
effects of using them. In addition we
raised funds to construct a sustainable
rehabilitation and vocational training
center in Galaha, Kandy under the
supervision and guidance of Ven. Dr.
Kirinde Assaji Thero of Gangarama
Temple in Colombo.

It was a very successful event with

the participation of more than 1200
Leos, 100 Lions and other invitees.
MADD is the first awareness walk
organized by the Leo multiple 306
to address such an issue in the
society. As the responsible youth of
Sri Lanka we will continue to take
such measures to mitigate burning
issues like dangerous drugs in the
Sri Lankan context.

PROGRAMME

World AIDS day, 1st of December, is an

opportunity for people worldwide to unite
in the fight against HIV.As a contribution
for that social service, UOM leos
also organized an awareness
programme on 9th of December
from 2pm to 4pm. The resource
person for the programme was
Dr. Gunawardhana. He gave
a nice presentation for the
audience about HIV/AIDS. It
consisted of the topics such as
how the disease spreads, what
are the ways to get prevented
from the disease and many

more things. The participants

were
mostly from the university as it was held
in university premises. As they are the
younger generation and the
future of the country, they must
be well known about this threat.
Even though sri lanka records
a relatively low prevalence of
HIV/AIDS compared to other
countries of the world, it is
better to aware and get rid of
the disease. So as this was an
step for that ambition,at the end
of the programme uom leos got
the appreciation of everyone.

What comes to your mind when you say
childhood?
First few things that cross my mind are toys,
playing, watching cartoons, smiles and happy
times spent. Everybody loves to have an
awesome childhood filled with sweet memories.
But do you think every small child is capable of
getting a childhood that appears in their dreams?
No, some are not that lucky, especially the small
ones who live in slum areas. It might be their
fate, but still they are small ones who know
nothing about this world. Rather than smiling

Go Green
Green cover over the earth diminishes day
by day. Blue clear sky is no more ahead
with the glowing sunshine. What we did
is boomeranged on us. Nature teaches us a
lesson, but do we learn?
Natural disasters are frequent nowdays than
in the past. They are unpredictable. Nature is
going to lose its balance. Time has arrived to
save the Green World...
LEOs, the young nature lovers, took their
first step ahead on bringing back the Green
World. GO GREEN 2015 is the international
project by LEO club of Kowloon from
multiple districts 303. By the invitation of
them UoM Leos launched a tree planting
campaign on 21st of December at kakanadura
Lankaramaya temple with the blessings
of the temple and regards of the villagers.
Giving a life to a plant will save millions of
beings over hundreds of years. Even you can
save the Green World on your next move..

Think Green. Act Green.

I am Half withoutYou
I is the best and foremost word of the world. I am .., this is mine, and this is my .
all these phrases are common and usual in everyonesvocabulary. No one hesitate to use
these phrases as much as possible even in a very little conversation.
Single letter I entertains the longest journey of life. But it is impossible to handle that letter
without a companion. The word I has born together with the word You. If You happens
then I will happen. If You there I will be there. If You dies I will die automatically.
Its okay to use I, me, and mine. They lead for the limitless love and hope. But only
those words cant fulfill all wishes and dreams. I should take care of You since the
beginning to the very end. Otherwise I will have to be alone. I being alone means just
pain and sorrow play their role in the book of life and the end of the chapter I,me and mine
will soon approach.
All those mind blowing former paragraphs imply you just one thing that each and every sole
in this world is equal as yours. Uplifting one while neglecting others wont make anyone
happy and successful. Selfishness is a disease hard to cure but easy to avoid. Its better to
consider I as a half of You and avoid that disease.
In this dedicated pursuit of the good life, on the road of tough decisions, shocking revelations
and heart-wrenching consequences, I, the word of domination and self-illusion is nothing
without You, as the salvation. So I am hopefully telling that I am half without you. Please
turn yourself back and think once again. Youll definitely get to know that you are a half
without me too.
