Task 5. Design Brief
B. Design Brief Develop a detailed design brief, which summarizes the analysis of relevant research
I am going to (5W1H)
i. Teach SPH preschoolers (who) about humility based on SPH and Biblical values
(what) so that they are no longer prideful (why), done through a toy designed for the
specific purpose (how) that can be completed in four weeks (when) and
manufactured with the resources at school (when) and played inside their classroom
with the preschoolers (where).
The product will be:
i. Designed specifically for preschoolers between the ages of 4 and 6
ii. Designed to remove pride and teach humility (respect, servant hood) and encourage
mannerism and good behavior.
iii. Designed to teach children to respect variety
iv. Uses sustainable materials (wood and fabric).
v. Inspired from an already effective game set-up, but modified to teach humility.
vi. Teach sportsmanship to humbly accept when facing defeat.
vii. Require groups of people (at least three) to play instead of individual playing, to
encourage humility within the community for a healthier growing environment.
viii. Colorful (at least three colors; primary colors) to attract attention of preschoolers.
ix. Packaging features a cartoon character to attract target audience.
x. Involve assembly, so that the preschoolers have the opportunity to experiment with
their own imagination while capturing their interest, but assembly must be kept
minimal so that its easy to play & keep and assembly doesnt consume a majority of
their playing time.
xi. Stimulate and encourage imagination and creativity
xii. No larger than 60x60cm when packaged, so that the product is easily portable.
xiii. Instructions simple and to the point, without complicated wording, so preschoolers
easily understand it.
xiv. Use images as much as possible instead of words, to stimulate interest and initiate
gameplay and creativity.
xv. Easy access
xvi. Avoid choking hazard by having a minimum size of 5x5cm for individual pieces in
the product.
xvii. Use materials that are not toxic
xviii. Soft-edged to avoid scarring from use
xix. Positively encourage children through gameplay
xx. Reward success instead of being threatened or shamed for failure, but not excessively
xxi. Practical in its function while still educating the preschoolers
xxii. Establish clear rules and parameters in playing
xxiii. Gender-neutral to reach a larger preschooler threshold
