I am a Black women with kinky, coily, nappy 4c hair that requires a ton of moist

urizing conditioner. Upon hearing such rave reviews for Aussie Moist conditioner
, I decided to try it out, and it was like I struck gold!
Until I found out that Aussie Moist, who is owned by Proctor & Gamble, performs
cruel testing on animals- mainly bunnies. The rabbits have their eyes clamped op
en, and chemicals are dropped into their eyes causing bleeding, blindness, burni
ng, and severe discomfort. After testing, all of the animals are killed. From ww
w.humansociety.org:
'Q: What animal tests are carried out to test cosmetics?
A: Although they are not required by law, several tests are commonly performed b
y exposing mice, rats, rabbits and guinea pigs to cosmetics ingredients. This ca
n include:
-skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are rubbed onto the shaved skin o
r dripped into the eyes of restrained rabbits without any pain relief
-repeated force-feeding studies lasting weeks or months to look for signs of gen
eral illness or specific health hazards such as cancer or birth defects; and
-widely condemned "lethal dose" tests, in which animals are forced to swallow la
rge amounts of a test chemical to determine the dose that causes death.
At the end of a test the animals are killed, normally by asphyxiation, neck-brea
king, or decapitation. Pain relief is not provided. In the United States, a larg
e percentage of the animals used in such testing (such as laboratory-bred rats a
nd mice) are not counted in official statistics and receive no protection under
the Animal Welfare Act.'
The funny part? Cosmetics don't even NEED to be tested on animals- the FDA does
not require animal testing to prove that a product is safe: (http://www.humaneso
ciety.org/issues/cosmetic_testing/qa/questions_answers.html?referrer=https://duc
kduckgo.com/) (http://www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/ScienceResearch/ProductTesting/ucm07
2268.htm)
Not to mention that the product rates as a 5 on the Environmental Working Group'
s Skin Deep Database (http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/product/231126/Aussie_Moist_Co
nditioner/) and it contains METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE (look I even had to copy and p
aste that shit- that ingredient's name alone should be enough to dissuade you) a
widely- known preservative and allergen, as well as FRAGRANCE, which almost alw
ays contains parabens, which interfere with hormone production (http://www.david
suzuki.org/issues/health/science/toxics/chemicals-in-your-cosmetics---parabens/)
So, sadly, I will not be purchasing this conditioner anymore, as there are plent
y of cheap, cruelty-free, and all natural brands available to nourish my beautif
ul kinks and coils. I much prefer Shea Moisture's Raw Shea Butter Restorative Co
nditioner. [[ASIN:B0097OXE4O Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Condition
