Good Things Grow Here

Spring Term 2016

Year 4 and 6 Art Workshops

Year 6 Mountains
Last week an artist, Ms Randall worked with our Year 4 and 6 children to enrich their CfL work. The
children were enthused to work alongside an artist and the finishing pieces of artwork are stunning!

Sharing learning
On Wednesday 03 February 3pm 3.30pm there will be an opportunity for you to pop into school to look
at your childs books. Your child will be able to share their learning with you. If your child attends Miller
Club after school please pop into the classroom when you collect your child to look at their books.
There will also be the opportunity to look at your childs books next half term during parents evenings.

Attendance
By law, all children of compulsory school age (between 5 and 16) must receive a full-time education.
Recently we have seen an increase in the number of families requesting absence during term time for
holidays. Taking a holiday during term time means that children miss important school time both
educationally and for other school activities. It will be difficult for them to catch up on work later on. There
is an information booklet for parents on our school website which provides further guidance.
The attendance figures for our school currently are: overall 96.3% with 680 authorised absences and 149
unauthorised absences. The highest attendance is 100% and the lowest attendance is 82.2%.

Thank you.
to the PTA for organising the recent improvements to the Early Years outdoor learning area. Our PTA
received funding from Sanctuary Housing to support the improvements. This has been used to enhance our
Reception and Key Stage 1 outdoor play area. Fencing and gates have been erected along the canopied
area outside our Reception and Year 1 classroom. This will enable staff to improve the learning
opportunities on offer outdoors during the school day. It is proving helpful at the end of the day,
enabling us to hand children over more smoothly to parents/carers. Sanctuary have also given us an
amazing new mud kitchen which will be in use later this week so look out for our delicious range of bark
cakes, mud pies and wholesome and natural soups!

Sharing our Reception childrens learning

At the end of the Autumn Term Reception parents received an overview of some of their childs learning in
their first months at school. This electronic Learning Journey is collated from observations made and
photos taken by staff over the course of the term as part of their assessment of the childrens learning. It
also provides a way for staff and children to share their learning with everyone at home. Reception have a
physical Learning Journey at school too where they gather some of their learning in school. Children love to
bring in learning from home to add to this as well as their WOW cards showing achievements from home
that they are proud of.

Thanks so much we really loved seeing how our child has been getting on over her first few months at
school. We found this really informative and our child loved telling us all about each picture. Thanks for all
your hard work.
We really enjoyed being able to see the excellent and encouraging progress our child is making. It is
lovely and interesting to see how all these items she so proudly shows us at home have been created in
school, and how she is actually learning without realising it! We feel our child is making great progress in
all areas of her learning.

Anti-bullying school policy

As part of the school cycle of reviewing school policies, our Anti-Bullying policy is currently under review.
By reviewing policies, school ensures that they are still effective and reflect current practice. We would
very much welcome any input or feedback from families. If you would like to be involved in reviewing this
policy then please speak to Mrs White (Learning Mentor). Mrs White is on the playground every morning
before school and also available by telephoning school.
There is a leaflet on our school website called Keeping Safe at Mill View which outlines what bullying is
and how we can together support our children to be safe. If you have any concerns about your child
feeling safe at school please speak to the teacher and/or Mrs White, Learning Mentor.
