SCI invites application from eligible, unmarried and medically fit male/female candidates,
Indian nationals, who are desirous of pursuing a career at sea, for the DNS course leading
to B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science) for February 2016 Batch.
The selected candidates who qualify for IMU CET i.e. Common Entrance Test will be
admitted for training at our Maritime Training (MTI) at Powai and Tuticorin. Both our
institutes are affiliated to Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai, A Central
University setup by Government of India.
For further details and online registration with Indian Maritime University, candidates are
required to visit www.imu.edu.in
All interested candidates must appear and qualify IMU CET i.e. Common Entrance
Test which is mandatory in order to join MTI Powai and Tuticorin. Final selection will be
purely on the merit list of IMU CET Results.
Applications are invited from candidates possessing educational qualifications and age, as
prescribed below:-

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:
a) Pass in 10+2 examination from a recognized Board with Physics, Chemistry &
Mathematics (PCM) with not less than 60% marks. (Students who have appeared for
10+2 examination and waiting for results are also eligible to apply & qualify for
examination subject to their securing 60% marks in PCM prior commencement of
course).
OR

b) Pass in B.Sc. with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with not less than 50% marks in
final year from a recognized university. Physics should be an individual subject in one of
the years in B.Sc. provided that the candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized University.
OR
c) B.E. / B. Tech. degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE.
AND
Minimum 50% in English subject as a separate subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or
in Degree, conducted by a recognized Board or University.

AGE LIMIT:
Not more than 25 Years (as on 1st August 2015). SC / ST candidates will be granted age
relaxation of 5 years and Female candidates will be granted age relaxation of 2 years.

MEDICAL STANDARD AND EYE SIGHT:

Candidate must have good health and be fit for sea service as per existing MS Medical
rules 2000 / MLC 2006 applicable to seafarers. Standard as mentioned below:
1. Height: Minimum 157 cms. Reduction in height for the candidates from hilly and
tribal areas will be in accordance with Govt. guidelines.
2. Weight: Proportionate to height and age.
3. Hearing: Normal.
4. Visual Standard: 6/6 (Normal Eye). Defective colour vision (Colour Blindness)
NOT accepted.
Note: Medical fitness check will be done through our empanelled DG approved
Doctors and No waiver will be given for the above standard. Candidates not
meeting above standard should not apply.
For the TNOC course, there is no reservation for people with disabilities as
mentioned in the People With Disabilities Act, 1995.

DURATION OF COURSE AND ONBOARD TRAINING:

Course: 12 months Pre-Sea Training course followed by 18 months of Structured
Shipboard Training as TNO (Deck Cadet) under Indian Maritime University (IMU)
Directorate General of Shipping (D G Shipping) project, leading to Degree in B. Sc.
(Nautical Science) to be conducted at Maritime Training Institute at Powai
(Mumbai) & Tuticorin (Tamilnadu), owned by The Shipping Corporation of India
Ltd.
Commencement: 03rd February 2016

THE SELECTION OF CANDIDATES IS ONLY FOR ONE-TIME SHIPBOARD TRAINING

TO FACILTATE COMPLETION OF REQUISITE SEA-TIME FOR DNS COURSE, AND THE
SHIPPING CORPORATION OF INDIA DOES NOT HAVE OBLIGATION OR DOES NOT
GUARANTEE ANY FURTHER EMPLOYMENT OR EXTENSION OF SHIP BOARD
TRAINING.
SELECTION PROCEDURE, ON-LINE EXAMINATION AND VARIOUS SCHEDULE:
Admission Procedure:
1. The Shipping Corporation of India invites application from the candidates in the
prescribed format as attached herewith ANNEX I
2. Candidates who qualify IMU CET will only be eligible to get admission in our institute.
Passing IMU CET February2016 is mandatory to get admission.
Common Entrance Test (CET) is conducted by IMU (Indian Maritime University,
Chennai, Govt. of India) all over India.
3. Date, time and venue of IMU CET Examination are normally intimated through personal
e-mail ID and on SCIs website. Selected candidates shall take a printout of the admit
card available online.
4. Eligible candidates, who do not receive call letters/ intimation for IMU examination, are
required to take print of hall ticket from the universitys website [ www.imu.edu.in ] &
report along with proper identification and passport size photograph at the IMU
examination centres on the day of the examination.
5. Candidates those whose applications will be received by MTI-SCI and qualify the IMUCET as well will be our sponsored candidates.
6. Final merit list will be prepared as per the ranks obtained in IMU-CET.
7. The Company will not provide any lodging, boarding, travelling or any other incidental
expenses to the candidates incurred during admission process.
8. SCI-MTI reserves the complete right towards final selection / rejection of the
candidates for DNS course at any stage during the training and/or selection
procedure.
9. Public are informed that SCI engages cadets directly through its own schemes and
has not authorized any person to engage cadets/trainees on its behalf. No service
charge whatsoever is payable for application as sponsored candidate in SCI.

HOW TO APPLY:
1) Applications of SCI sponsorship will be accepted in the prescribe format ANNEX-I.
2) Candidates have to logon on www.shipindia.com for the important instructions.
3) Candidates have to log on to www.imu.edu.in for filling the online application for IMU
CET.
4) Aspiring candidates MUST NOTE that Filling of IMU-CET On-line Form and Filling
of SCI ANNEX-I Form separately are mandatory. Candidates not qualifying IMUCET will not be admitted at our SCI Institutes.
5) It is mandatory that the candidates should have a valid e-mail id and mobile number
while applying in order to facilitate faster communication. All future communications
and correspondence will be through emails and our official website only.
6) Instructions given to fill-up IMU On-line registration shall be strictly followed.
7) ATTESTED PHOTOCOPIES BY GAZETTED OFFICER / SELF ATTESTED of enclosures like
SSC/HSC Passing Certificate for birth proof, Mark sheets, Degree Certificate, Caste
certificate, Caste Validity Certificate.
8) The application form with all attached documents to reach only by OrdinaryPost/Courier/Speed-Post/Registered-Post (No Hand delivery will be accepted) to
the following address super-scribing the envelope as Application for selection of

9) Candidates are required to paste the recent passport size photo in the space indicated,
put his/her signature in the place and send the same application form along with the
requisite enclosures. To prevent postal delay and / or loss, kindly ensure that the
application is sent only to the address given above before due date and time. For
Applications received after due date and time, those sent other than by OrdinaryPost/Courier/Speed-Post/Registered-Post, and any delay on account of the
Candidate or at Post Office(s) end, The Shipping Corporation Of India Ltd will NOT be
responsible.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTION:

1. Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
2. No application fee is charged along.
3. If any information provided by the candidate is found to be false or incorrect or not in
conformity with the eligibility criteria, then his / her candidature is liable to be rejected at any
stage of the selection process or after selection or joining.
4. No modifications are allowed after submission of the application form. Incomplete
application form in any particulars is liable to be rejected. Write NA whichever is not
applicable.
5. The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd reserves the right to change the number of vacancies
and cancel / restrict / modify / alter the recruitment process, if required, without issuing any
further notice or assigning any reason thereof.
7. Any modifications / amendments in the advertisement will be given only in The Shipping

8. All Instruction and important information regarding recruitment will be available on only
SCI website and as such, candidates are advised to visit the same frequently for necessary
instructions.
9. Candidate should bring all the original valid documents and one set of attested photocopies
of all certificates at the time of final verification after they qualify IMU-CET and sponsored by
The shipping Corporation of India Ltd. for DNS Training. Candidates failing to produce
Original documents for verification will not be allowed to continue for the verification /
selection procedure.
10. Students who have appeared for 10+2 examination & are waiting for results can also apply
& qualify for admission subject to their securing 60% marks in PCM prior commencement of
the course.
