FIXING ASSEMBLY
PREVENTING DECREASE OF FIXING ASSEMBLY AC
CABLE INSULATION

Outline
To prevent a decrease of fixing assembly AC cable insulation due to coating deterioration, the coating
material has been changed.
Details
[Phenomena]
The AC cable coating of the fixing assembly may develop cracks over time, causing a decrease in insulation.
[Cause]
Due to the influence of silicon gas and heat generated from the fixing assembly, the coating of the AC cable
may deteriorate over time. Also, depending on the amount of deterioration, cracks may occur on the coating,
likely decreasing the amount of insulation.
[Factory measure]
To prevent the occurrence of the cracks on the cable coating, the coating of the fixing assembly AC
connector cable, AC cable, and AC cable (sub) has been changed to a material which is resistant to silicon
gas and heat.

Measures for servicing
For machines that took more than 1 million copies since installation (or have been used for 3 years or
longer), perform the following inspection and replacement.
Inspect the fixing AC connector, AC cable, and AC cable (sub), and if cracks are found on the AC cable
coating, replace all 3 items at the same time with the new ones.
Periodic replacement of the fixing heater (H2 and H3). (See NP9800 Service Manual, pg. 4-47.)
Because the coating of the lead wire of the fixing heater may deteriorate, the fixing heater (H2 and H3) is set
as a part which is periodically replaced every 1 million copies or 3 years, whichever comes first. The
material of the heater lead wire coating is not changed as it is replaced before cracks occur because of the set
up of the service parts at this time.
[AC cable and AC cable (sub) replacement procedure]
1) Remove the fixing assembly from the main unit. Remove the upper fixing cover.
2) Remove the faston of the AC cable.
3) Remove the terminal mount on the lead wire cover. (See Fig. 1.)
Note: When removing the terminal mount, be sure not to damage the heater.

6) Route the new AC cable and new AC cable (sub) to the temperature fuse side, and then connect the fastons of
the new AC cable and new AC cable (sub) to the temperature fuse terminals. Close the cleaning assembly.
7) Connect the fastons of the new AC cable and new AC cable (sub) at the opposite side to the terminals.
(See Fig. 1.)
8) Attach the upper lead wire cover. (See Fig. 1.)
[Fixing AC connector replacement procedure]
1) Open the cleaning assembly. Remove the faston of the cable of the fixing AC connector from the terminal
of the temperature fuse (FU2/FU3, 4). (See Fig. 1.)
2) Draw the cable of the fixing AC connector cable toward the fixing assembly rear side and remove the
fixing AC connector.
3) Route the cable of the new fixing assembly AC connector to the temperature fuse side through the faston
side and connect the faston of the cable of the terminal of the temperature fuse. Close the cleaning
assembly.
4) Attach the new fixing AC connector assembly to the connector mount.
5) Attach the upper fixing assembly cover. Attach the fixing assembly to the main unit.
Note: Turn the fixing assembly knob and be sure that the AC cable is not in contact with the gear, roller, etc.

Notes for servicing
1) Check that the fixing assembly has cooled off before starting work.
2) When removing the terminal of the cable from the temperature fuse, be sure not to damage the upper
roller.
3) When routing the cable at the rear side of the fixing assembly, be sure not to damage the coating of the
cable.
4) After securing the cable, check that the cable does not interfere with the gear, etc.
