1. Draw the circuit diagram of FWR with centre tap connection and B r i d g e
connection and explain its operation.
2. Determine :(a) DC output voltage, (b) PIV, (c) Rectification efficiency of the
given circuit.

3. Derive the ripple factor of Π- Filter with neat sketch.


4. (a) Why do we need filters in a power supply under what condition we shall prater
a capacitor filter? (b) Draw the block diagram of RPS. (c) What is the function of a
bleeder resistor? (d) Describe the terms capacitor input filter and inductor input filter.
5. Derive the ripple factor of capacitor filter.
6. Derive all the necessary parameters of HWR.
7. (a) Write short notes on multiple L- Section and multiple Π - Section Filter. (b)
Compare all the filter circuits from the point of view of ripple factor.
8. (a) Explain about the regulation characteristics of Zener diode with a circuit and
waveforms.
(b) A full wave rectifier circuit uses two silicon diodes with a forward resistance of
20Ω each. A d.c. Voltmeter connected across the load of 1kΩ reads 55.4 volts.
Calculate
i. VRM S
ii. Average voltage across each diode
iii. ripple factor
iv. Transformer s econdary voltage rating.
9. (a) Define the terms as referred to FWR circuit. i). PIV ii). Average d.c. voltage
iii). RMS current iv). ripple factor.
10. (a) Explain why a bridge rectifier is preferred over a centre-tap rectifier. Give
circuit diagrams.(b) A diode has an internal resistance of 20Ω and 1000Ω load from a
110V rms source of supply. Calculate: the efficiency of rectification and the percentage
regulation from no load to full load.
11. Define percentage regulation and prove that the regulation of both half wave and
full wave rectifier is given by percentage regulation equal to Rf/RL × 100%.
12. A 15-0-15 Volts (rms) ideal transformer is used with a full wave rectifier
circuit with diodes having forward drop of 1 volt. The load is a resistance of
100ohm and a capacitor of 10,000µf is used as a filter across the load
resistance. Calculate the dc load current and voltage.
13. (a) Describe transistor shunt regulator.(b) Calculate the output
voltage and zener current in the regulator circuit shown in Figure.
14. (a) Discuss the operation of HW rectifier with and without capacitor filter.
(b) Draw the Half wave rectifier circuit using a step down Transformer with Vs= 46
sin(100π t) and a semiconductor diode. Calculate the turn ratio of Transformer
windings when the primary voltage of the Transformer is 230V.

15. A full wave rectifier (FWR) supplies a load requiring 300V at 200mA. Calculate
the transformer secondary voltage for
i. a capacitor inpur filter using a capacitor of 10 µF.
ii. a choke input filter using a choke of 10 H and a capacitance of 10µF.
Neglect the resistance of choke.
16. (a) Draw the circuit diagram of full-wave rectifier with inductor filter.
(b) A full-wave rectified voltage of 18V peak is applied across a 500µF filter
capacitor. Calculate the ripple and d.c. voltages if the load takes a current of
100mA.
