the death of his father, 15th June 1639. Installed 3rd July 1639. m. several wives,
including, (a) I-Bame Daeng Kare Ma'nassa. m. (b) Daeng Pattingngalloang. m. (c)
Pattopakang I-Sa'be Lo'mo' Takontu (d. 12th July 1637), a lady from Boni. m. (d) 3rd
December 1631 (div.), Karaeng Tangalla Siti Maraziah (b. 23rd November 1611; m.
second, 25th February 1649, I-Mammalijang Daeng Pole Karaeng Langkese, and d. 28th
May 1661), eldest daughter of I-Manginyarang Karaeng Kanjilo Daeng Makiya 'Abdu'l
Jafar Muzaffar, Karaeng Tallo, by his first wife, Daeng Kallieng, daughter of I-Bissu

Kahar [Mabata Wadu], Sultan of Bima. She had issue, one son and one daughter

Jarannika 'Abdu'l Ghafur, Karaeng of Chenrana (b. 21st April 1641; d. 14th May

2) I-Sungguminasa Daeng Naratang Karaeng Sanggiringang Rabiah. b. 8th
January 1645 (d/o I-Biessu Talampuang). m. (first) 6th August 1656 (div.),
Karaeng Bontosunggu Muhammad Shafi (b. 26th December 1643; d. 3rd July
1726), sometime Tuma'bicarabutta of Gowa, second son of I-Mangadachina
Daeng Sitaba Karaeng Pattingalong. She had issue - see Indonesia (Tallo). m.
(second) 8th November 1658, Karaeng Bungaya Salah ud-din (b. 3rd May 1643),

son of I-Taniurangi. She d. 17th March 1675, having had further issue, by her
second husband, one son:
a) Karaeng Barowangang Mohi ud-din. b. 17th August 1661 (s/o Karaeng
Bungaya). m. (first) 26th November 1674 (div. 12th February 1679), Daeng
Tamemang I-Maminasa (d. in childbirth, 15th July 1679). m. (second) IBannang Wennangputri Daeng Tataya, Princess of Bulu-bulu (b. 23rd
July 1663), daughter if I-Masiyajang, Prince of Bulu-bulu, by his wife,
Daenta I-Tanitjini', daughter of I-Pammusurang, Karaeng of Sanrabone.
He d. 12th March 1695, having had issue, a daughter:

Matoaya).
4) Karaeng Lakiyung Siti Shafur. b. 13th March 1649 (d/o I-Ralle). m. 5th April
1662, Karaeng Ballo (b. 22nd January 1646), son of Karaeng Katiantiang, by his
wife, Daeng Talarra Karaeng Tabaringang, younger daughter of Malawai Daeng
Manassa, Karaeng of Chenrana. She d. 1st June 1669, having had issue, one
daughter - see above.
5) I-Asseng Tani' Lo'mo' Singara'. m. 14th August 1672, H.H. Sultan Mandar Shah
ibni al-Marhum Sultan Muzaffar Shah, Sultan of Ternate (d. January 1675), son
of Sultan al-Hamzah Musalihun Nasir ud-din ibni al-Marhum Sultan Said,
Sultan of Ternate - see Indonesia (Ternate).

1653 - 1669 H.H. I-Mallombassi Daeng Mattawang Karaeng Bonto Mangngape Sultan
Muhammad Bakar Hasan ud-din Makassarnya [Tumenanga-ri Balla'Pangkana], Sultan
of Gowa. b. 12th January 1631, educ. privately. Forced to accept the protection of the VOC
under the terms of the Treaty of Bungaya, 18th November 1668. Abdicated in favour of his
elder son, 19th June 1669. m. several wives, including, m. (first) 12th February 1645, IMaminasa Daeng Sangnging Siti Safiyah (b. 2nd March 1633; d. 11th October 1648),
daughter of I-Mangadachina Daeng Sitaba Karaeng Pattingalong, sometime
Tuma'bicarabutta of Gowa. m. (second) 4th April 1650, I-Peta' Daeng Nisali, daughter of
Karaeng Banjuanjara of Sanrabone. m. (third) 8th July 1654, I-Lo'mo' Dayang. m. (fourth)
4th February 1654, Majannang I-Lo'mo' Tobo, who had issue, two sons and two daughters.

d. 12th June 1670, having had issue, nine sons and seven daughters:

January 1655 (s/o I-Lo'mo' Dayang). m. 23rd March 1672 (div. 25th May 1673), ITani (m. second, 28th August 1674, Karaeng Bangkala), daughter of Karaeng
Jarannika [Tumateya-ri Salaparang], of Salaparang. He d. 29th December 1709.
6) I-Manninrori Karetojeng Karaeng Galesong. b. 29th March 1655 (s/o I-Lo'mo'
Tobo). Became C-in-C of the allied army of Madurese, Javanese and Makassar
troops under Trunajaya, conquering all the ports on the north coast of Java.
Appointed as Adipatai Anom by Trunajaya, September 1676. m. autumn 1675,
Karaeng Rappotjini Mappa Arung Tonra (m. second, 8th August 1680, Kare-pate
I-Sarampa, of Boni, and d. 19th March 1686), daughter of Raden Trunajaya,
Panembahan Prabu Madu Retna Senapati ing Alaga, of Madura. He d. at
Banten, 22nd November 1679, having had issue.
7) I-Mappasomba Daeng Nguraga Sultan Amir Hamzah ibnu Sultan Muhammad
Bakar Hasan ud-din, Sultan of Gowa (s/o Karaeng Pa'bineang) - see below.
8) I-Makkarurung Daeng Ma'julu Karaeng Agangje'ne. b. 29th September 1659
(s/o Daeng Nisali). m. 6th December 1675, Daeng Anreene (m. second, 19th
February 1679, Daeng Mangemba Kasim; and d. 8th May 1726). He was k. in
battle, 23rd May 1677, having had issue, one daughter:
a) Karaeng Bontolangkasa. m. 28th August 1692, Karaeng Jarannika
'Abdu'l Ghafur, Karaeng of Chenrana (b. 21st April 1641; d. 14th May
1709), younger son of I-Mallewai Daeng Ma'nassa Karaeng Mataoya,
Karaeng of Cenrana, sometime Tumalailang of Gowa, by his wife, Daeng
Mangeppe, daughter of I-Mallingkaang Daeng Mannyon-ri Karaeng

H.H. I-Mappadulung Daeng Mattimung Karaeng Sanrabone Sultan Fakhr ud-din 'Abdu'l
Jalil ibnu Sultan Muhammad Bakar Hasan ud-din, Sultan of Gowa; and d. 11th April
1734), former wife of Karaeng Mandalle I-Tulolo Taj ud-din, and daughter of Karaeng
Bontokappang. He d. 7th May 1674.
1674 - 1677 H.H. I-Mappasosong Daeng Mangngewai Karaeng Bisei Sultan Muhammad
'Ali ibnu Sultan Muhammad Bakar Hasan ud-din [Tumenanga-ri Jakattara], Sultan of
Gowa. b. 29th November 1654, educ. privately. Proclaimed on the death of his younger
brother, 7th May 1674. Installed 3rd October 1674. Deposed 27th July 1677. Exiled to
Batavia,16th September 1678. m. 12th September 1670, I-Sitti Karaeng Kampung-beru
Daeng Talele (d. 22nd June 1725), widow of his father, H.H. I-Mallombassi Daeng
Mattawang Karaeng Bonto Mangngape Sultan Muhammad Bakar Hasan ud-din
Makassarnya, Sultan of Gowa, and daughter of I-Mallewai Daeng Ma'nassa Karaeng
Mataoya, Karaeng of Chenrana and sometime Tumalailang of Gowa. He d. on voyage off
Cheribon, 15th March 1681 (bur. Batavia), having had issue, one son and three daughters:

1) Daeng Mangika, Pangeran Suta di-Laga.

3) Daeng Fatima Karaeng Tana-tana. b. 21st April 1673 (d/o I-Sitti). m. 5th
August 1688, H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Jamal ud-din 'Inayat Shah ibni al-Marhum
Sultan Nur ud-din 'Abubakar 'Ali Shah, Sultan of Bima (b. 1673; d. 6th July
1696), son of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Nur ud-din 'Abu' Bakar 'Ali Shah, Sultan of

Karaeng Mamampang Baha ud-din, Karaeng of Sanrabone (b. 5th April 1662; d.

Lakiung], Sultan of Gowa. b. 18th August 1652, educ. privately. Styled Karaeng
Campagaya before 1667. Elected as Karaeng Sanrabone, in succession to his grandfather,
6th July 1667. Installed 28th March 1668. Succeeded as Sultan of Gowa, on the deposition
of his younger brother 16th September 1677. m. (first) 25th November 1664 (div. 4th

February 1669), Karaeng I-Bonto Mate'ne Siti Amina [Ruma-ta Paduka Talo] (b. 23rd
January 1653; m. second,10th May 1669, H.H. Karaeng Mapaijo Daeng Manjauru Sultan
Harun ar-Rashid, Sultan of Tallo, and d. 13th March 1671), his chief wife, daughter of
H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Khair Siraj ud-din ibni al-Marhum Sultan 'Abdu'l Kahar,
Sultan of Bima, by his wife, I-Patimang Daeng Nisakkang Karaeng Bonto Je'ne Fatima,

April 1687, H.H. La Patau Paduka Sri Sultan Idris, Arumponi of Boni (b. 3rd
November 1672; d. 1714), son of La Pakkoku Toangkone Taddampali, Arung
Timurang and Arung Ugi, and Ranreng Tua, by his wife, We Mappolo'bombang
Da Upi, daughter of La Pottonune, Arung Tana Te. She d. 26th July 1693, having
had issue, three sons:
a) Daeng Bonto Karaeng Anamonjong Ismail, who succeeded as H.H. La
Parappa To' Aparapu Sappewali Madanrang Paduka Sri Sultan Shahab

1709 - 1712 H.H. La Parappa To' Aparapu Sappewali Madanrang Daeng Bonto Karaeng
Anamonjang Paduka Sri Sultan Shahab ud-din Ismail [Tumamenanga-ri Sompaopu],
Sultan of Gowa. b. 18th January 1690. Appointed as Heir Apparent of Boni with the title
of Arung Palakka, 1696. Deposed 24th August 1712. Installed as Arumponi of Boni, 8th
October 1720. Datu of Soppeng 1720-1724. Proclaimed on the death of his grandfather, as
Sultan of Gowa, 18th September 1709. Deposed by the nine Bata Salapangas, 30th August
1712. m. (first) 2nd December 1706, Siti Labiba (d. at Chinrana, 3rd March 1713),
daughter of Shaikh Yusuf, by his wife, Kare-Kontu. m. (second) 16th May 1702 (div. 14th
February 1708), Siti Rahima Karaeng Pabiniyang (b. 2nd January 1689 d. 27th October

ud-din, Sultan of Tallo (b. 23rd December 1708), son of H.H. I-Mappaurangi
Karaeng Kanjilo Paduka Sri Sultan Siraj ud-din, Sultan of Gowa and Tallo. She
d. 19th January 1740, having had issue, one son and one daughter - see Indonesia
(Tallo).
2) H.H. I-Tanitaja Siti Amira Maning Ratu [MatinroE-ri Lanna], Arung Palakka.
b. 9th May 1711 (d/o Siti Rahima). Appointed as Heiress Apparent of Boni. m. 3rd
November 1725, H.H. I-Mappainga Karaeng Lempangang Paduka Sri Sultan Safi
ud-din [I-Makkasuma], Sultan of Tallo (b. 7th December 1709; d. 1760), second
son of H.H. I-Mappaurangi Karaeng Kanjilo Paduka Sri Sultan Siraj ud-din,
Sultan of Gowa and Tallo, by his I-Rakkia Karaeng Agangjini, Arung of Barru,
daughter of Karaeng Barrong. She d. at Barisallo, 8th January 1779, having had
issue, two sons and two daughters - see Indonesia (Tallo).

1712 - 1739 H.H. I-Mappaurangi Karaeng Kanjilo Paduka Sri Sultan Siraj ud-din
[Tuammenang-ri-Pasi in Gowa or Tomamaliang-ri Gaukana in Tallo], Sultan of Gowa
and Tallo. b. 17th November 1687, son of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Kadir I, Sultan
of Tallo, by his first wife, Karaeng Parang-parang, daughter of I-Mappaosong Daeng
Mangngewai Karaeng Bisei Sultan Muhammad 'Ali, Sultan of Gowa. Succeeded on the
death of his father as Sultan of Tallo, 8th January 1709. Installed, 31st May 1709.
Proclaimed as Sultan of Gowa, after the deposition of Sultan Shahab ud-din, 31st August
1712. Abdicated as Sultan of Tallo in favour of his eldest son, 1725. Fled to Tallo in fear
of an attack from Karaeng Bontolangkasa and Aru Sinkang, 5th November 1735. m. (first)
21st January 1702 (div. 11th September 1706), Karaeng Bonto Mate'ne (m. second, 29th
April 1708, Arung Lalolang, of Tanette). m. (second) 1st January 1707, Zainab [Saena]
Karaeng Balassari (cre. 31st December 1714) (b. 9th August 1684; m. second, 8th
September 1716, Makkadangtana, Arung Ujung, of Boni, and d. 31st October 1717),
daughter of Arung Teko, by his wife, Daeng Nisaju, daughter of Karaeng Karunrung
'Abdu'l Hamid, sometime Tuma'bicara-butta of Gowa. m. (third) Karaeng Lempangang.
m. (fourth) 18th June 1716, Daeng Matene Siti Abida (b. 31st October 1699; d. 5th March
1724), daughter of Karaeng Bontomanompo Muhammad. m. (fifth) Safiyah. m. (sixth)
19th March 1726, I-Rakkia Karaeng Agangjini, Arung of Barru (b. 10th September 1686;
d. at Tallo, 28th December 1735), former wife of H.H. Sultan Muharram Harun ar-Rashid,
Sultan of Sumbawa, and daughter of Karaeng Barrong, by his wife, Daeng Mattini
Karaeng Bontoramba, younger daughter of 'Abdu'l Hamid Karaeng Karunrung. He d.
22nd January 1739, having had issue, three sons:

1) H.H. I-Manariba Karaeng Kanjilo Paduka Sri Sultan Nazim ud-din, Sultan of
Tallo (s/o Zainab) - see Indonesia (Tallo).
2) I-Maniembang-gau Muhi ud-din. b. 27th September 1720 (s/o Siti Abida).
3) H.H. I-Makaraeng Tamasangang Karaeng Katangka Sultan Zain ud-din,
Sultan of Gowa (s/o Pa' Bineang) - see below.
4) I-Mangambojava Shafi ud-din. b. 6th July 1725 (s/o Safiyah).
5) I-Mappainga Karaeng Lempangang Safi ud-din, who succeeded as H.H. IMappainga Karaeng Lempangang Paduka Sri Sultan Safi ud-din, Sultan of Tallo

Sultan of Bima (b. 1706; d. at Daha, 17th or 27th May 1748), elder son of H.H.
Paduka Sri Sultan Hasan ud-din Muhammad Ali Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan
Jamal ud-din, Sultan of Bima. She had issue - see Indonesia (Bima). m. (third)
19th March 1740, La Tan-ri Odang Daeng Mattinri Sultan Yussuf Fakhr ud-din,
Karaeng of Tanette and Datu Soppeng (d. July 1747) - see Indonesia (Tanette and
Soppeng). She d. 1778.
4) I-Tanripada Siti Arifa Karaeng Tangalla. b. 24th September 1711 (d/o Zainab).

1739 - 1742 H.H I-Malawangau Sultan 'Abdu'l Khair al-Mansur Shah ibnu Sultan Safi
ud-din, Sultan of Gowa [Tumamenanga-ri Gowa], Sultan of Gowa. b. 25th August 1727,
third son of H.H. I-Mappainga Karaeng Lempangang Paduka Sri Sultan Safi ud-din,
Sultan of Tallo, by his first wife, I-Tanitaja Siti Amira Maning Ratu, Arung Palakka,
younger daughter of H.H. La Parappa To' Aparapu Sappewali Madanrang Daeng Bonto
Karaeng Anamonjang Paduka Sri Sultan Shahab ud-din Ismail, Sultan of Gowa,
Arumpone of Bone, and Datu of Suppa, educ. privately. Appointed as Heir Apparent with
the title of Pati-Matarang, by his grandfather, 9th November 1735. Succeeded on his
death, 22nd January 1739. Fled to Tallo 9th April 1739. Returned to Gowa, 11th October
1740. m. at Bima, May 1742, a daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Ala ud-din
Muhammad Shah Zillu'llahi fil-'Alam ibni al-Marhum Sultan Hasan ud-din, Sultan of
Bima. He d. 28th July 1742.
1742 - 1753 H.H I-Mappaba'basa Sultan 'Abdu'l Kudus ibnu Sultan Safi ud-din
[Tumamenanga-ri Kala'birana], Sultan of Gowa. b. 27th December 1733, fourth son of
H.H. I-Mappainga Karaeng Lempangang Paduka Sri Sultan Safi ud-din, Sultan of Tallo,
fourth son of H.H. I-Mappainga Karaeng Limpangang Paduka Sri Sultan Safi ud-din,
Sultan of Tallo, educ. privately. Proclaimed on the death of his brother, 28th July 1742.
Reigned under the regency of Karaeng Majemang. m. 13th December 1748, I-Taju
Karaeng Balasari (d. 1807), younger daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Ala ud-din
Muhammad Shah Zillu'llahi fil-'Alam ibni al-Marhum Sultan Hasan ud-din, Sultan of
Bima, by his wife, Sitti Maimunah I-Mamunjaragi Karaeng Tanasanga, daughter of H.H.
I-Mappaurangi Karaeng Kanjilo Sultan Siraj ud-din, Sultan of Gowa. He d. 21st
December 1753, having had issue, two sons:

1) H.H. Karaeng Batara Gowa II Mas Madina Patti Mathari Sultan Usman
Fakhr ud-din, Sultan of Gowa (s/o I-Taju) - see below.
2) H.H. I-Malisujawa Daeng Riboko Arung Mampu Sultan Muhammad Imad uddin, Sultan of Gowa (s/o I-Taju) - see below.
1) Putri Ra'ana Kumala Karaeng Tabaringang. b. 28th March 1751 (d/o I-Taju).

1753 - 1767 H.H. Karaeng Batara Gowa II Amas Madina Patti Mathari Sultan Usman
Fakhr ud-din [Tumamenanga-ri Silung], Sultan of Gowa. b. 9th November 1749, elder son
of H.H I-Mappaba'basa Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Kudus ibni al-Marhum Sultan Safi uddin, Sultan of Gowa, by his wife, I-Taju Karaeng Balasari, educ. privately. Succeeded on
the death of his father, 21st December 1753. Assumed the name of Karaeng Batara Gowa
Amas Madina , June 1758. Deposed in favour of his younger brother, 14thApril 1767. Fled
to Bima, captured and exiled to Batavia and then to Ceylon. m. Siti Habiba. He d. at
Colombo, Ceylon, 1795, having had issue, six sons and four daughters:

1) Karaeng Yusuf.
2) Karaeng Sangunglo. Escaped from the Dutch and entered the service of the
King of Kandy, ca. 1800. He was k . in battle with the British, during the First
Anglo-Kandyan War, 1803.
3) Captain Karaeng 'Abdu'llah. Capt. Malay Regt. British Army in Ceylon. He
was k. during the Poligar Wars, in South India, 1800.
4) Captain Karaeng Muhammad Nur ud-din. Capt. Malay Regt. British Army in
Ceylon, served in the First Anglo-Kandyan War. He was k. on the orders of the
Kandyan King, after enduring three weeks of torture while a prisoner, 1803 (his
body thrown to wild boars in the jungle).
5) Karaeng Segeri Zainal Abidin.
6) Karaeng Sapanang Yunusu.
7) Captain Karaeng Saif ud-din. Capt. Malay Regt. British Army in Ceylon,
served in the First Anglo-Kandyan War. He was k. on the orders of the Kandyan
King, after enduring three weeks of torture while a prisoner, 1803 (his body
thrown to wild boars in the jungle.
1) Siti Awang. m. Pangeran Adipati Amangkurat, of Java.
2) Ratna Villis.
