We're moving!
The Simons Foundation and its initiatives, including SFARI, will be at a new
office location beginning Monday, 19 April 2010.

The new address will be: 160 Fifth Ave, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10010

SFARI investigator workshops


SFARI has launched a series of day-long workshops intended to bring together
SFARI investigators and others working on conceptually related topics. The
first meeting, on 'Neural Signatures of Autism', took place on 8 March.

Workshop report: Fever and autism


On 5 February 2010, the Simons Foundation gathered a panel of experts to
discuss what initially appears to be a surprising and unrelated pair of subjects:
autism and fever. Anecdotal reports have found that fever can improve
cognitive function and behavior in individuals with autism.

With an openness to collaboration and a healthy dose of daring, Evan Eichler
has turned his offbeat interest in repeat DNA sequences into a new
understanding of how genomes evolve, expediting the search for genes
disrupted in autism.

News: Autism and fragile X feature immune signatures


Scientists have identified distinct blood signatures of cytokines — proteins that
control communication between cells of the immune system — in individuals
with fragile X syndrome and autism.

SFARI Gene launches animal model module


SFARI Gene's new animal module is described in the community news section
of the journal Disease Models & Mechanisms. The module extracts information
about mouse models of autism from the scientific literature and presents it in
an easily readable format.

"Charlie Rose" and SFARI scientists explore the brain


How does the brain give rise to mind? That's just one question scientists
associated with SFARI have been debating on the PBS television program
Charlie Rose. The yearlong series is made possible by a grant from the Simons
Foundation and will explore various aspects of the brain and its disorders.
