GINA CENTRELLO

PRESIDENT AND PUBLISHER

THE RANDOM HOUSE PUBLISHING GROUP

April 13, 2010

TO EVERYONE AT RANDOM HOUSE, INC.

I am saddened that with the organizational changes we are announcing this morning for
Ballantine and Bantam Dell, NITA TAUBLIB will step down as Executive Vice
President, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Bantam Dell and leave the company.

For nearly three decades, having joined Bantam Books in 1982, rising to Deputy
Publisher of Bantam Dell, and then as leader of the latter since 2009, Nita has been
instrumental in making it one of the most successful publishers of commercial bestsellers
in our industry. She is one of the rare publishing executives who combines a keen
editorial appreciation for a diverse range of authors with the skillful execution of all the
administrative details that go into bringing their books into the marketplace.

The list of authors Nita has championed all the way to bestsellerdom both in hardcover
and in paperback rivals any editor in the business. She has been an industry leader in
breaking out authors from category romance to crossover bestseller status—beginning
with Iris Johansen, whom she pulled out of the slush pile and encouraged to write dozens
of mainstream novels, to numerous others, including two of today’s most popular
suspense novelists, Tami Hoag and Lisa Gardner. She has played an invaluable role in
building the #1 bestselling careers of Lee Child and George R. R. Martin, and in
implementing the recent bestselling debuts for Sarah Addison Allen and Alan Bradley.
We have sold tens of millions of books by authors Nita has championed.

Nita has an enviable combination of editorial wisdom—that innate sense of what readers
want to read—with great management skills and a talent for nurturing her authors and her
staff. When Bantam Dell became part of the Random House Publishing Group fifteen
months ago, Nita was invaluable in bringing the groups together. She has graciously
agreed to continue with us through June as a consultant to assist us during this transition.

A one-of-a-kind editor and a team-building publisher, Nita has made lasting contributions
to Bantam, Bantam Dell, and the Random House Publishing Group. She has been a
friend and valued colleague for many years. I know you join me in wishing her all the
best in the future.
