INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS

The set-up of the equipment to determine the discharge coefficient of the orifice
meter was almost identical with the first experiment, except a manometer was added. The
experiment was carried simultaneously with the first, therefore the rotameter readings and
the mass flow rate data’s were used as in the first experiment. Care was handled with the
reading of the manometer because only slight changes occur; a keen eye from the group
member was needed. Several parameters were significant and recorded including the
manometer readings in order to compute for the discharge coefficients.

CONCLUSION

• The calibration curve for the orifice meter obtained a concave upward line.

• In comparison, the calibration curve of the orifice meter was a curve while the
rotameter was a straight line.

• The discharge coefficient increases as mass flow rate is increased.
