Taxis

Tourist taxis are available throughout Kerala. The facility of renting a car with or without chauffeur for intra or inter
city drive is also available in some important cities and towns of Kerala.

For local city transportation, auto rickshaws are easily available in all cities and towns at local stands.

Kerala Transport Corporation and private bus operators operate local bus services at regular intervals. These
bus services not only connect the cities and towns of Kerala but also towns and cities of other neighboring states.

As Kerala is a coastal state, people use boats and ferries for local transportation and fishing. Kochi is a major

Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh

The length of roads in the State as on 31 March 1999 is 2,19,805 km. The national highways that pass
through the State are NH 17, NH 47 and NH 49 with a total length of 1,011 km. The public transport
system in the state consists of government buses, private buses, taxis and autorickshaws. Three
National Highways - NH 47, NH 17 and NH 49, link the state with other parts of the country. Roads in
Kerala are in much better shape than other states in India. Major modes of road
transport are buses, tourist taxis, cars, and local taxis and autos. State is connected with
other parts of South India by a number of National Highways. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka,
and Andhra Pradesh are some of the neighboring states that are easily connected to
Kerala through roads

Vehicles
Luxury, Semi-luxury coaches and tourist taxis can be hired. Taxes of other States, Toll Tax, Parking
Fees, Airport Entry Fee, Ferry Charges, etc., will be charged extra. If vehicle is hired or retained before
8.00 hrs. and after 20.00 hrs. night halt charges will be applicable.

These are operated by Kerala Transport Corporation and Private Operators at regular intervals,

Railways
Kerala state has a decent network of railways that connects many important cities and towns. The State has a
total railway route length of 1,050 km and covers 13 railway routes. It has 933 km of broad guage lines
and 117 km of meter guage lines. Rails are another good way of moving inside and from the
outside Kerala. There are around 200 railway stations and There are 101 train services
connecting most of the places in the state to places in the other parts of the country and
inside the state. Long-distance express and super-fast trains connect important destinations
within the state and to places outside Kerala like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad

Aviation
Kerala is well connected by air to important places in India. There are three airports- Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi
and Kozhikode, of which the first two are international airports. Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital,
is connected to most of the major airports in India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai,
and Bangalore. As the Thiruvananthapuram is an international airport, there are
considerable connections to gulf countries also from this airport. Kochi and Calicut are
other two airports connected from air to other cities in India.

Kerala has three airports – Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. Thiruvananthapuram is the
international airport providing flight services to major destinations in the country and abroad. The
karipur airport at Kozhikode provides both domestic and international flight services. Cochin
International Airport at Nedumbassery is linked by regular flights to important destinations in India and
also to golf countries.

waterways project for linking the southern and northern tips of the state.
